"His scrotum isn't used to strangers There are no condoms on his shelf When his tones caress and soften When he asks, 'D'you come here often?' He is talking to himself." God, I miss this woman so much.
What was so wonderful about her, and what set her apart, was that, however clever her songs were, she never seemed to be saying "look at me, aren't I clever?". There was a great humanity about her humour, which invited us all to share in it. She was very special. R. I. P.
Absolutely heartbroken, only two days ago I had all her songs on full blast, singing along with her and crying with laughter. Such a shame, what an amazing talent. We will miss you, Victoria.
I'M SO SORRY I DISCOVERED VICTORIA TOO LATE! I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF HER...SHE WAS SO VERY TALENTED... SIMPLY INCREDIBLE!! I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE'S GONE TOO SOON...R.I.E.P. SWEET LADY. (And thanks so much for posting. This is one of my favorites of Miss Victoria)!
Look at her face at 1:09 after dropping 2 racial slurs in her first 2 lines- she was a comic genius! The reason people get in trouble for 'non-PC' jokes isn't because we're all too sensitive- it's because it's incredibly hard to do well, and lazy comedians try to get the shock value without earning it with an intelligent payoff. What a legend.
Spot on, she says words you just can't say in a completely inoffensive way. Absolute genius, I saw her live probably late eighties and she must have performed solid for almost 3 hours, what a talent.
I have to say the first time i heard this, I did a double take at that first line, but it's completely meant in a non-offensive way. Such a terrific song. And yes, I love the word "wanker" too. :)
Just came across this song... definitely my favourite of VW's songs! Hilarious! I love the fact that as soon as she says "hanker" we all completely get it and break down in laughter... I was nearly crying!
I truly feel that I have lost a member of my family, I've not ever felt like this before over the death of someone I have not even met..........I suppose that is the true definition of a star...........
I feel exactly the same way! I heard the news of her passing on the day she died, I was so sad I couldn't stop crying! (She's my favourite comedian) When I woke up the day after I just wanted to stay in bed because I was so upset! (Yes you might think that's sad) 62years of age and no one knew she was ill… I just can't get over the fact that she's died! Been watching her sketches and comedy ever since I found them, and will continue to do so… only now it will be bittersweet knowing she's no longer shining her light in this world, but another one instead, and that we only have the fantastic comedy and hilarious memories left :( 💔 xx
+Child0 Music xx1 Thank you for sharing that. i thought i might have been going slightly mad but ive been having a hard time coming to terms with her death and i never met the woman! im still able to get on with my life, nothing has changed except that one of the greatest comedians of all time has passed away. Very sad indeed
I was very very lucky to get to meet such a wonderful woman and she treated averyone with such respect and normality it amazed us all x I still cannot get over her passing at all x
My heroine since I was a kid! Recently sat near her on a train - was desperate to say how great she is, but managed not to so! - difficult self restraint!
@@atadbitahistory9660 I've always seen Dillie Keane as Tom's successor (she acknowledges him as one of her muses), but had never realised that Victoria Wood is also part of that very small club. V could have done some of Tom's songs too, of course (although I don't think I've ever heard her sing anything but her own).
What a class act...she will always be remembered as a legend who could turn her hand to anything. It's just such a shame I didn't know more about her/watch more of her stuff. Rest in peace Victoria Wood x
I've just read through nearly 400 comments, and didn't get to _any_ negative ones until very near the end. Most show how much she was loved, and an awful lot express sadness that she was taken from us so young.
I’m listening to this 11 years later!! The world is in a pandemic and the world has become woke and lost it’s sense of humour with its mind!! They are cancel culture it’s called now. You would be cancelled meaning boycotting you. It’s horrible!! Watching this has made my day!!
AWWWWWWWWWW VICTORIA!! COME BACK!!!!!! Miss watching this legend on the TV as stand up so much she is so fantastic and the only reason I do musical comedy today
Yes - very British. (Which in some ways is a pity because I'd like more people to enjoy her without needing to "get" references. But I guess Anglophiles will get them anyway.)
@@G6JPG She was a genius but definitely someone who wrote in the moment which to some will seem dated but for millions of Brits she was and still is a Comedy Queen.
@@G6JPG I agree it is all timeless if you have intellect and fun in your heart. I am just worried about today's younger people who want a jaundiced kind of comedy. There will always be an audience for Victoria just in my view not the amount she deserves.
SDhe was a comic genius.I first saw her on a Saturday night talent show, which she did not actually win;but others with influence obviously recognised her unique talents,on an upright piano, that evening,as I certainly did.I swore that she would be BIG....and pleased that I was right.Loved you! R I P
This is wonderful. Never seen it before, can't imagine it'll get past the bed wetting censors now😂That speccy four eyes gag went VERY under appreciated by the audience! My sister was a huge VW fan and got to meet her. Don't think this is PG enough for her though... 😂😂😂
Hard to believe that she has gone at only 62 years old.One of the real groundbreakers for women in comedy."Meatandpotatoepie" will always make me smile :)
Haha what a typical and boring comment. 'Nothing like this will ever be shown these days'. It really is a shame that we can't racially abuse people on TV anymore isn't it? You absolute moron.
The world has just got a little sadder and a little darker. A comic genius who found the humour in everyday things without ever being cruel or nasty. RIP Victoria .
Fantastic as always, one of my favourite all time comedian! Such a sad time, taken to soon, RIP Victoria, you may be gone but you're life will life on in our thoughts and memories :)
2016 was such a sad year. In only a four month span England lost 3 of it's finest Female comedy writers and performers. Victoria died in April of that year..Carla Lane followed shortly after in May and then we lost Caroline Aherne in July. They each gave us their gift of comedy and luckily we have recordings and places like RU-vid where we can keep their memories alive for coming generations.
Absolutely love the song. Sadly, just played it to two of my 25yr old colleagues and they checked out after those two trigger words, entirely missing the point of her saying, she's happy to see them go. They just couldn't cope with someone from the past saying those words aloud. It was hugely embarrassing and I left feeling like I've done something wrong... Oh, well...
I'm 14 and would by the mkre extreme right be called 'woke' ( although, apparently all kids are 'woke' ? ), I think this song is hilarious and you are very likely just working with a bunch of wankers.
Just a huge talent with a wicked sense of humour . unfortunately never to be matched because moderness won't allow, we all now are to be boring that's what powers to be want of us...
What a terrible year this is---so many of our great artists dying, and it's only April. I was reading a newspaper columnist who was listing all those who had died; and having been written the day before, and not knowing Victoria's name would be added that very day of printing. I went on line and there was the headline' I was astonished. Victoria was a one -off, unique, and a brilliant comedy / drama writer, and actress--so sad. NOW we here of the death of Prince-- R.I.P. one and all.
Tim would never use literally slurs at the start of one of his songs tho she was beyond a talent but even for the time of the song that is shockingly poor form. The song "Prejudice" is a prime example the whole point is he never says what you're thinking and cleverly redirects it with the true meaning of the song.
