Whenever I go into a department store and walk through the expensive make up counters, I always, to this day, think of Sacharelle!! She was pure comedy gold!
One of the funniest moments ever in British comedy. I remember seeing this for the first time when it was aired on telly and literally rolling on the floor in laughter. Such a fantastic observer of human life - R.I.P Victoria.
I used to work in a big department store back in the 80's and this is so spot on, I think she must have come in where I worked, I even got dragged into getting my face done once, when no customers would volunteer. I remember laughing hysterically at this at the time, it's like. a piece of ones life gone forever. But, DON'T Rest in Peace Victoria, I'm sure there is plenty to laugh about in heaven.
Nice shot of Dave Allen at 3.26. He's amused, but obviously more interested in STUDYING what she's doing. I think that's the best compliment one comedian can give to another without anything having to be said.

I've just viewed shots of the audience. The lovely Joan Sims and Pat Hayes are present, so are Alan Coren, Roy Hudd, Barry Cryer, Val Singleton, Jane Seymour, Celia Imrie, Liza Goddard, Miriam Stoppard, Brian Rix, to name a few.
my sister and I used to watch this on a video. when we go into a department store I still sometimes say "welcome to the world of sacharelle" and laugh every time!

Thank you for sharing! Vicki had such a unique talent. So sadly missed! I recall 'Dinnerladies' in TC8 (c.1999) at the BBC Television Centre. The studios and many of the people who worked in them have now gone.
The sound of my Saturday afternoons. My dad taped this off the telly n I would watch it every weekend when I went to stay with him. This, what’s up doc with barbera Streisand and Ryan O’Neill and the parent trap with Hayley mills. Good times
Just sat my sisters down last week to watch 'What's Up, Doc?' and they laughed from beginning to end. They were shocked by how funny everyone in it was. Then I put some Victoria Wood in the DVD player, and they laughed even harder. Victoria's talents are timeless and a true gift to humanity.
Farewell Victoria, you made people laugh which is one of the best things anyone can do. And I've often attempted the accent you do here but, alas, with little success.
Victoria Wood. - Saccarelle. I remember my experience of a free makeover. I was at the NEC in Birmingham, England 🏴 I said to the cosmetic lady, Please do not put a lot of foundation on and definitely not bright red lipstick 💄 and really black eyes 👀 You can guess can’t you, I looked just like a Clown 🤡 I never want to experience that again and pretend that I looked great when I couldn’t wait to wash it all off. I’ve never been to another one since.
@@iangreenacre9108 Have you looked at the one series I have left of hers? I couldn't find it anywhere online so uploaded it, as I don't think it was ever repeated. However, I did it twice, second time in better quality, but some have already started to get worldwide blocks on. I'm sure the full 6 episodes are still there but I doubt for long now.
It's even funnier when she mentions the speculum you don't see any men in the audience laughing. Bless their hearts... Wendy sounds like a dish though. I wonder if she's single... and if her Ringworm has cleared up.
