Correction: Station precinct is not the correct term, the correct term is "Yard Limits"

Well done, probably your best video to date. Excellent graphics and great narration.

Thanks so much. My favourite authors often start with something seemingly esoteric and simple, yet weave it into an interesting and informative story that's both a joy to read, and benefits one's knowledge. Your video has given me a similar experience. 🚂🚂🇦🇺👍

Just want to say, great video, but I do have some corrections: Firstly, 2 position signals are not "widely used", almost everything is 3 position coloured light. Also, the presence of a blade is not what causes the individual signaller thingy, those were just operational practises that were phased out at the same time. Mechanical signals can be automated. But it's still a great video, nicely done.

0:11 I saw those crossed out Semaphores at Ballarat when I went there! They look really weird with those crosses. They do look Photoshoped in, but nope, V/Line just put them there.

When a stick is at "Stop", it's usually referred to as "On". When at "Proceed" it's referred to as "Off"... Which can sometimes lead to the following statement: “Safeworking is complete, You’re ok to pull number 5 Off”… So, if said too loudly, can get some weird looks from the Passengers…..

unfortunately the semaphore signals were taken out at barens in 2018 I believe as the line was converted into a single line to Deniliquin, however they have resleepered a small section of the Moulmein line to the UCM Grain facility to allow trains to run on that section once more, however it will probably be a point operated by a master key, if your wondering if trains can go further they unfortunately cannot as the Line Across Thrya Road has been cut thus preventing trains from going further. will try to get some footage tomorrow :)

Note that the signal blade, is always bolted/hinged near the top edge of the blade. This is so the blade will naturally fall to the Danger position, should the mechanism fail.

Except that Victorian Railways used “somersault” type centrally pivoted blades, as seen on the former GNR lines in England, so they had to be counterweighted to fail in the safe position.
