Yesterday, wind gusts in excess of 100km/h battered country and metropolitan Victoria, knocking down dozens of powerlines and poles.
Senior Forecaster Richard Carlyon at the Bureau of Meteorology says wind gusts of around 90km/h will hit the state today, with gusts of up to 100 km/h in the alps.
"We have a severe weather warning for damaging winds across the ranges and along the coast," Mr Carlyon said.
He said Mt Hotham can also expect gusts of around 100km/h.
The ski resorts are expecting snow today down to 1400 metres as cold, unstable air crosses the region.
A 49-year-old woman died yesterday after being hit by a fallen tree in high winds in the central Victorian town of Maryborough.
The State Emergency Service responded to more than 620 calls for help up until 11pm, mainly for fallen trees and branches.
Scores of households were left without electricity and some customers face an extended wait before they can be reconnected.
