So many folks dis the can opener. I contracted sudden-onset rheumatoid arthritis, and it really killed my hand strength. The SAK can opener is the only manual can opener I can use without hand pain. My 30+ year-old Spartan now lives in my kitchen. Planning on replacing it with a Huntsman for my EDC.
Myself I use my leatherman can opener daily in the kitchen also ( I never can find where my wife puts our Eletric one) at this point I'm probably faster than the the Eletric one
Huntsman is a very great choice! Hahaha i carry it myself, i bought the eye glass screwdriver, pin seperate, also replace it scales with the plus scales so i have a pen too
@@patrickbledsoe2176 just the regular 91mm scales you usually see on the victorinox, bought them on Etsy, many color option, picked green cause its my favorite color hahahaha, replacing them is very easy, my advice is to put it in hot water first for 2 minutes or so so the plastic becomes flexible
Great content! Being an American I have the legal ability to edc really cool larger and locking knives but I never leave home without my Classic SD or Executive with me. Out of all the models I’ve owned, those two get the most use. Had the same steel scaled Executive since 1989 💪
Great build! The explorer is a great one to mod because it’s nearly perfect out of the box. I’d lose the cap lifter, can opener, magnifying glass, and scissors and add the combo tool, pliers, 84mm file, and 58 mm scissors. Of course that’s my pie-in-the-sky wish and have no clue how they’d fit together.
i use every tool on my champ swiss knife i use the file and the fish scaler and saw the most i use the file to sharpen my machete i use the saw to cut wood to make and Notching tent pegs and to make lean 2 shelters posts when i go fishing camping i use the utility knife to make a point on them shelter pegs and poles and i used the saw in the past to cut some wood to make a pot tripod for cooking i use the all to drill hole in rocks to make fishing sinker and in wood to fashion wood to together i had the explore when i was a young boy in the scouts love that one as much as i do with the champ i love the hook for grading a hot pot off of the camp fire love this tool with every fiber of my being great video
The Deluxe Tinker with Plus Scales has been my EDC for over 20 years! It is the perfect SAK for me with no wasted tools. I get much more use out of the Phillips than the corkscrew. What I’ve always wanted is a Deluxe Tinker with the addition of the inline Phillips and (old style grey) magnifier layer in the middle. You have made my dream SAK (except mine needs the back Phillips). I wish I had the knowledge and tools to customize mine like yours! As a SAK collector, I have all the parts I need…
@@daviddidomenico171 Thanks! Yes, if you head over to the forum.multitool.org/ forum there's a Mod Squad thread with showcases and modding guides, including ones I've done.
Great tool set, similar to a Victorinox model named Yeoman Mechanic (discontinued)... There is a channel caled Fit To Survive on youtube where you can find a custom made Yeoman Mechanic. Congratulations on your custom made 5 Layer Victorinox😊
Near perfect for me. The only changed I'd make would be to remove the blades (I fly a lot), and possibly add a dedicated package opener and magnifier. Victorinox really needs better blade less options.
I work in surgery and the hospital has a stupid no weapon policy. So I simply bought an SD and snapped off the blade with pliers so I could have scissors, the file/screw driver, the toothpick and tweezers attached to my badge without getting slapped on the hand for having a knife. Not probably the best solution to ever exist but works for me 👍
You can use a combi tool and have it all in 4 layers, i like opener layber because if can opener use as phillips but in your case where you have dedicated phillips the opener layer can be swaped for combi tool if you dont mind loosing small blade, i would do that sactifice every time imo
That’s the same mod I did, but sans the blade layer, for carrying in environments disallowing blades. 😀 But an Explorer with plus scales is pretty phenomenal… in truth the pliers are called to action hardly ever.,
Cost? Maybe. But I would think it’s cheaper to just manufacture one type of hook than two, and the assembly would be the exact same, just use the one with the file. But I’d say if they did that, then the Climber would steal all the sales of the Compact and effectively kill that model.
I really like how you customized the knife but I think you could have bought a Victorinox delemont s557 which has the same functions and plus a wrench and the lock in blade and the lock in flat head screw driver in small size.
Thanks VinnieNiZero! I did not take any pic's of this build, but I recently did quite a complex custom 84mm that you may find interesting forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,90372.0.html
While I don't like the combo tool I am not really sure what the point of the opener layer is on the cybertool. They could cut it down a layer and still keep the functionality.
Hi M Belue. Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world, but if you post your request on MultiTool org website, there are US-based custom SAK builders that will respond forum.multitool.org/index.php/board,13.0.html
It's not really practical to build for resale as it uses two donor SAKs and I'd need to add about $150 for the labor. And then shipping from my country is a problem. Maybe ask on the Swiss Army Knights Forum if there's a modder near you.
Hello Oal, I carried the CyberTool M for a while and never found a regular need for the other bits. I prefer the fixed Phillips and I find I do use the magnifier.
