We're Max, Gaynor and Hilton, and 'Rusty' is the name of our 2012 Echo Kavango off road caravan, named after the rusty parts that needed replacement after we become the new owners of this caravan in 2022. This channel is dedicated to this great little caravan, what we've done to get him back to a presentable condition, our experiences with him and places we have visited.
I again think that the Mopani veld can be very rewarding. Letaba is perhaps the camp where I have had most of my leopard sightings at and most often without any other cars in sight. Good for lions too and even had a cheetah there last year Unfortunately your video does Letaba no justice. It is a fantastic camp. It is clear that the camp is jam packed in your video. If you go over a busy period, expect busy shops and limited sightings. It is logical. You complained a lot about the camp and surrounds but what about complimenting the view from the restaurant, the fantastic elephant museum and the mind blowing birdlife!?
While I don't like the combo tool I am not really sure what the point of the opener layer is on the cybertool. They could cut it down a layer and still keep the functionality.
I really like how you customized the knife but I think you could have bought a Victorinox delemont s557 which has the same functions and plus a wrench and the lock in blade and the lock in flat head screw driver in small size.
Great tool set, similar to a Victorinox model named Yeoman Mechanic (discontinued)... There is a channel caled Fit To Survive on youtube where you can find a custom made Yeoman Mechanic. Congratulations on your custom made 5 Layer Victorinox😊
That’s the same mod I did, but sans the blade layer, for carrying in environments disallowing blades. 😀 But an Explorer with plus scales is pretty phenomenal… in truth the pliers are called to action hardly ever.,
i use every tool on my champ swiss knife i use the file and the fish scaler and saw the most i use the file to sharpen my machete i use the saw to cut wood to make and Notching tent pegs and to make lean 2 shelters posts when i go fishing camping i use the utility knife to make a point on them shelter pegs and poles and i used the saw in the past to cut some wood to make a pot tripod for cooking i use the all to drill hole in rocks to make fishing sinker and in wood to fashion wood to together i had the explore when i was a young boy in the scouts love that one as much as i do with the champ i love the hook for grading a hot pot off of the camp fire love this tool with every fiber of my being great video
This is next-level design & fabrication. I bought an expensive portable “solar battery” from a well-financed US startup a number of years ago that was not nearly as professionally assembled. The solar industry is characterized by rapid iteration of discrete components which almost invariably are custom installed in the field, including by professional installers. At less than major commercial or grid scale, there is no source for complete systems designed by engineers and assembled in factories using modules to provide the elegance and quality you have created. Most solar systems feature components and controls haphazardly mounted on plywood with gratuitous metal struts. An analogy is the emissions control birds nests which were chaotically installed over American car engines in the 1970s. They were part of a general qualitative decline which caused US manufacturers to lose huge market share to the Japanese. One of the three - Chrysler - was bailed out of bankruptcy. By contrast, Mercedes redesigned its power plants to integrate emissions controls and eliminate the chaos - as your panels do. Aerospace is another analogy. Even in WWII-era Warbirds, electrical, hydraulic, and other lines and controls are carefully organized and secured with those which are multiples paralleled through every turn and transition from nose to wingtip to tail. Your panels are aerospace-worthy. You should start a solar company. Victron would be frantic.
Thanks @midchalet. Your points are well made - as an ex-military pilot, I appreciate the aeronautical design approach. I tried to plan things out in advance given the available space and components that needed connections. Also taking into account the knocks & vibrations the system would be exposed to, as it was installed in an off-road caravan. I think the challenge today is that mainstream manufacturers build consumer products with a lifespan that only needs to cover the next product release. But when you have time and resources (incl. funding), it is possible to build well-designed systems that will last.
The Deluxe Tinker with Plus Scales has been my EDC for over 20 years! It is the perfect SAK for me with no wasted tools. I get much more use out of the Phillips than the corkscrew. What I’ve always wanted is a Deluxe Tinker with the addition of the inline Phillips and (old style grey) magnifier layer in the middle. You have made my dream SAK (except mine needs the back Phillips). I wish I had the knowledge and tools to customize mine like yours! As a SAK collector, I have all the parts I need…
@@daviddidomenico171 Thanks! Yes, if you head over to the forum.multitool.org/ forum there's a Mod Squad thread with showcases and modding guides, including ones I've done.
Near perfect for me. The only changed I'd make would be to remove the blades (I fly a lot), and possibly add a dedicated package opener and magnifier. Victorinox really needs better blade less options.
I work in surgery and the hospital has a stupid no weapon policy. So I simply bought an SD and snapped off the blade with pliers so I could have scissors, the file/screw driver, the toothpick and tweezers attached to my badge without getting slapped on the hand for having a knife. Not probably the best solution to ever exist but works for me 👍
Great content! Being an American I have the legal ability to edc really cool larger and locking knives but I never leave home without my Classic SD or Executive with me. Out of all the models I’ve owned, those two get the most use. Had the same steel scaled Executive since 1989 💪
You can use a combi tool and have it all in 4 layers, i like opener layber because if can opener use as phillips but in your case where you have dedicated phillips the opener layer can be swaped for combi tool if you dont mind loosing small blade, i would do that sactifice every time imo
All KNP camps are steadily going downhill. Letaba (specifically) and all other camps used to have lawns in the camping areas, paved roadways were sand/leaf free. Judge for yourself.
@pauldekock5356 I'm telling you now, in the last 30 years you never camped on grass. Point. There are many lawns in many of the camps which you can't camp on though. Go in summer time and see for yourself. If you want to go camp in a manicured spot, camp at home in your garden.
@@dirkhuman4087 grass disappeared from 1978, first in Skukuza and "Onder-Sabie", then Pretoriuskop and last in Letaba mid 80's. Satara did not even have tent or caravan camping then. Alle boskampe en ook Mopani en Berg-en-dal het nie bestaan nie, asook Tambotie en Tzendze, Orpen-Satara pad ook na 1978 geteer en verlê buite Orpen.
It's not really practical to build for resale as it uses two donor SAKs and I'd need to add about $150 for the labor. And then shipping from my country is a problem. Maybe ask on the Swiss Army Knights Forum if there's a modder near you.
So many folks dis the can opener. I contracted sudden-onset rheumatoid arthritis, and it really killed my hand strength. The SAK can opener is the only manual can opener I can use without hand pain. My 30+ year-old Spartan now lives in my kitchen. Planning on replacing it with a Huntsman for my EDC.
Myself I use my leatherman can opener daily in the kitchen also ( I never can find where my wife puts our Eletric one) at this point I'm probably faster than the the Eletric one
Huntsman is a very great choice! Hahaha i carry it myself, i bought the eye glass screwdriver, pin seperate, also replace it scales with the plus scales so i have a pen too
@@patrickbledsoe2176 just the regular 91mm scales you usually see on the victorinox, bought them on Etsy, many color option, picked green cause its my favorite color hahahaha, replacing them is very easy, my advice is to put it in hot water first for 2 minutes or so so the plastic becomes flexible
Cost? Maybe. But I would think it’s cheaper to just manufacture one type of hook than two, and the assembly would be the exact same, just use the one with the file. But I’d say if they did that, then the Climber would steal all the sales of the Compact and effectively kill that model.
These knives should be called narcissist knive, or coward knife..because narcissistic Swiss cowards make them. Around Christmas time they use them to cut cats and dogs which the psychopaths legally eat.
