I have carried a Huntsman for at least 15 years and it has become part of my EDC. It has saved the day countless tumes already. I recently bought a Ranger, partly because the previous owner installed Swiss Bianco G10 scales on it. After I got my hands on it, I immediately thought that the Ranger is a very good choice if you want to have slightly more tools than a Huntsman. While I love the tool selection in the Huntsman, the tool selection for the Ranger is nicely done as well.
Knives with back tools on every layer: Compact Spartan Tinker Super Tinker Climber Ranger The Ranger has the most. There was one called the Master Craftsman which was the same as a Ranger but with a Philips driver instead of the corkscrew. It would have also had all 5 layers filled with back tools, but it’s been discontinued. There may be other knives with back tools filling all of the layers, but I don’t know of anymore in the 91mm size.
Those saws are indeed wicked sharp, and will rip right through any wood or plastic smaller than the length of the blade. One of my favorite Victorinox tools.
When you think about it,the Ranger is the upgraded version of the Huntsman. All they did was add a file to the Huntsman. I forgot to mention the extra tools on the back. With those editions,I believe the Ranger could be the perfect choice!
Man, it doesn't come with a writing pen? That's kinda disapp--- "I think every SAK should come with the + scales, giving you a pen" A man of culture I see. This will soon be in the corral with my Huntsmans, SChamp, and CTools M and L. :)
You can swap the scales out for plus scales if you want. It isn't bad to do. You can find the scales on ebay for $10-$15 for a set. You can also get yellow, green, etc if you'd prefer those colors. I like your choices of SAK. :)
@@WhiteGloveReviews I've learned to pull the Plus Scales off my SAK before sending it in for warranty repair, and ask them to replace them. My Cybertool L was sent in, having the file and bit holder replaced, scales replaced, pen, tweezers, pin, and tooth pick replaced, and a double-sided bit replaced, for $17 (minus shipping).
3:00 I've noticed the corkscrew spirals aren't perfectly aligned with the scale. Only the first spiral touches the scale. I have the same "problem" on my brand new Victorinox Spartan. On my Camper all the spirals touch the scale. Is it a factory flaw or the new sak corkscrews are coming like that? Thank you! Very good review!
I have a Huntsman with the same corkscrew issue. Had it just 6 weeks and the first turn is all that touches when it is closed. It has already cracked the scale from impact. I plan to upgrade the scales to the plus scales anyway and I’ve just learned to softly close it rather than snap it. But it is kind of a bummer, because to me the snap of the tools as they open and close is part of the enjoyment of using this knife.
