That little notch on the screwdriver/cap lifter is a lock. When you push down on the screwdriver it moves back and locks the blade so it doesn't close up on your hand.

Hello. I got the Sentinel for xmas but i chose the two hand opening version. I dont like holes in my blades . It is a 111mm single blade. My favorite 111mm is still the Atlas, i just wish it had scissors. That rangergrip looks great. All the best my friend.

I like serrated blades, but I know not everyone does. You may want to check out other models that don’t have a serrated blade.

I think the little tab on the flathead screwdriver hinge end that you asked about, it's to stabilise it more as there's torque when using the screwdriver and that if it goes into a socket, would take some pressure off the hinge.
@JONHWAR
@JONHWAR Год назад
Actually due to a HUGE design flaw from Wenger that Victorinox didn´t fix, the edge of the blade is exactly the same as a 111mm sak...

If that's like my Ranger grip 78 when you push inward hard on that screwdriver on your bottle opener it actually retracts a little into the handle and locks and automatically unlocks when you relieve the pressure.

Interesting, I didnt know it was the european version either. But yea man I love the handle on that ranger!! Im not a fan of serrated knives but that's just me but other than that I really like the style and colors of it partner. Sounds like you might have a few worth some money! There is also a hex bit driver under the front scale in the bottom corner by the screw driver. Just pop the scale off and carve out the under part of the scale.

Thanks buddy, yes, I am aware, I just don't have a need right now to damage the handle. When it gets older, I will likely do it :)

[ I caught the Victorinox bug and now I'm a collector-- but without a display. Internet ordering through LAZADA is just too easy, so now I have one of each that I want and must stop. BTW, I never use anything except the knife and never think I will. I am the guy who gives away his Leatherman...... I own a set of real tools and would never reach for a tiny substitute. I know it's for emergencies, but try to open a wide-mouth tightly-stuck-closed jar of food with the little Leatherman pliers.😫😫😫😫😛

that groove on your bottle opener is so you can push down while using to lock it so it won't close on your hand

If you buy a victorinox, there is always a little paper included with instructions, for instance: how to unlock the knife! Just read the instructions (Duh!). There was no need to search the internet for it.

All the RangerGrip are excellent knives.. but none of them are easy one hand open as shown.. I along with friends have used these and again none are that easy thumb one hand open. If you are lucky enough to get in a location where you have access try it ! Otherwise great knife

The Ranger grip knives, and others from the Delemont (former Wenger) factory are based on Wenger designs and use a mix of Victorinox and Wenger tools, so the awls and can openers tend to be Victorinox, while the cap lifter/large screwdriver and scissors tend to be Wenger. This means that the large screwdriver has a “push lock” rather than the Victorinox half-lock system. I have a few 111 mm’s and 130’s. I prefer the corkscrew to the Philips driver, so I have the Ranger grip 179.

Nice Victorinox. I have a very cheap folding knife that has a lock release mechanism like that. They used a whole panel about the size of your thumb to release the blade. Took me awhile to figure it out.

4:17 The "awl" - In my experience, this is, after the main blade, the tool I have used the most! However, I've never used it as a awl! I use it to make holes in wood ! It is amazing at this job. [If you read Felix Immler's books, or view his videos you'll be amazed how important this tool is. Combined with carved wooden "nails" it adds awhole new dimension to what one can actually build quite successfully!). ] Main blade - does this knife come without the serrated blade? In my opinion, the day of serrated edges has come, and GONE!

Cool knives those RangerGrips. Between an old Victorinox Craftsman with plus scales and a RangerGrip 90 you can put together the two Swiss Army knives that contain every usable tool (minus the odd ones) made by them that you might find a need for anywhere, backcountry or in town. That beats carrying them all on one tool and gives you a backup knife. Great video.

The Rangergrip 178 is an awesome tool and mine is in a survival kit of my bug out bag. Victorinox offers a great sheath for it and it is OD green, same color as the green on the 178's scales. I added a slender ferro rod in the sheath. The back of the saw is perfect for striking hot sparks to ignite tinder such as feathersticks, fatwood or my favorite cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly.
@KnifeDetector
@KnifeDetector 3 года назад
Thanks, that's good to know about the back side of the saw, I love mine so far :)
@rafalk5709
@rafalk5709 3 года назад
Since the saw is not locked, when its open you hold the knife before the loop of the knife, this makes kind of a guard for your hand.
