Last year I bought a Victorio Food Strainer, and I just want to share how amazing this little device is. WOW... I made salsa without having to boil and peel the tomatoes... I made jelly without having to boil and mash and strain the grapes or blackberries through cheese cloth, etc... it's just SO easy to use, easy to clean up, and will save you SO much time.
I've read testimonials of folks that had theirs handed down to them from a mother or grandmother... so apparently, they last a long... long time.
If you're looking for something that will save you a LOT of time when you're putting up food... and want to have another "Off Grid" tool... this may be just the thing you're looking for.
If you already HAVE one... leave a comment on your experiences with it... and some of the uses you've found for it.
Check it out, and check out the links below to shop for one.
Take care,
alan

35yrs ago...My sister had just had a baby, so Mom and I went over to can tomatoes. She had a canning room in the basement...TV, A/C, stove and canning table. Jr had washed and cut up 5 -5 gal buckets of beautiful ripe tomatoes. And then I saw the Victoro!!! I know how excited you were....AMAZING! My sister gave me one for Christmas that year. Cherish it every year!!! Still got that same machine. Never ever had a problem with it! Let me pass on some tricks and tips I've learned over the years. If your tomatoes are too juicy-cook them down: thicker consistency and more intense flavor. If you find it a little harder to crank something: cut the pieces smaller or cook them down a bit. Just be careful...so easy to get burned.

To get less liquid + more flavor from your tomatoes, roast them at 375 for 50 mins in a deep baking dish. Let cool in fridge b4 removing the tomato’s. If to thick of a salsa just add some of the liquid left in the baking dish till desired thickness.

I have a model 200 I’ve been using for a few years, that was given to us by my wife’s grandmother. My parents have the same model. We figured out this year there are some minor difference, even the town name on it. I did a little research on their website and discovered mine is from between 75-78. It’s in good enough shape my parents thought it was new. It does get clogged with tomatoes pretty easy and leaks from near the handle. I see the new model has a seal. I wonder if this new model is an improvement or just cheaper to produce than the old model.

Some people run the tomatoes though twice, if you want more juice. Waste of skin and seed, add Italian seasoning, mix up, break apart, dehydrate. No more waste, throw on salads, in soup. Enjoy, have fun, I love mine!

I have one and love it too! Two suggestions: put whatever comes out of the "discharge" chute (the stuff you're going to discard) back through the machine a second time -- you'll be surprised how much more juice you will get out of it! The second suggestion relates to your salsa screen: I don't have one myself, but I bet you could (after running the tomatoes through it) just toss in and run the onion, peppers, peaches, or whatever else you want in your salsa! No additional chopping needed! Yum!!!

Often called an Amish food mill, mine came with no motor. I love it. I love sweet pink applesauce and you only get it right by cooking the apples with the skins on. This makes separating the pulp so easy! Great for tomato sauce with no bitter seeds or tough skins too!

I love having one, so nice for juicing tomatoes. Mine is so old the plunger is made of wood and doesn't have the guard that goes over the top of the screen so it squirts juice sometimes. Mine has been used so much over the year the screen was starting to rust. It's hard to find just the plan juicing screen, the others are everywhere it seems, finally found it at Lehman's.

I have one and use it for my black berry's, I have Blackberry bushes and get so many , this is a good way to de seed them. if you are into baking or wine, the left over skins can be used for wine or making a sour dough starter, then I throw what's left in my mulch pile out side, works great for tomatoes

Why am I not surprised that you have one of these! I bought mine used at a garage sale 20 plus years ago. Didn't know there were optional screens. I'd like to make chunkier tom. sauce. Made 6 gallons of tomato juice yesterday, yielded 9 finished quarts. Since learned to first cook the matters slightly and then drain them and then run them through the Victorio. I spent 8 hours boiling! - and want to cut that time down as I have about 400 pounds of toms. to process. Thanks for the review.

I have one of these & it was the best tomato juice I ever canned. I had already juiced some tomatos with a Champion juicer. And after I used this I used a Hobart mixer with the strainer thing (I have been offered a good bit of change for that). This juicer made the best juice of all of the. I use a combo of German, Roma & Kentucy Orange tomatos. This machine gave thick rich juice with maybe only 1/2 inch of liquid on top after sitting for a week or so. Really great. I have not tried it for other stuff. But I think I will purchase the grain mill by the same company.

i have one, i love it, it's good for apple sauce too. i cut the apples into quarters and roast them in the oven first. roasting makes them sweeter, it's the best way i've found to make applesauce. i did a video on it last november but i used my kitchenaid berry strainer. we've done it many times with the one you just showed. you can run a lot of stuff through it twice but don't do grapes with seeds. it took awhile to unjam it. what a mess.

@BIGALTX

+Cheryl D Not sure what you mean by "I can NOT get the screen disassembled"... It CAN be a little hard to take the screen off of the body of the strainer (the hand crank and spring, etc) but it WILL come out. Make sure you have the screw backed out that holds it in place, then turn the screen to take it off. Hope that helps...

Ypu can add everclear, vodka, or very dry gin to that pulp with a bit of sugar to tame the 'bite' put it in a half gallon canning jar and seal it up. Put it in a closit and forget about it for several months. Strain again with finest screen. Drink it as is, or you can strain through a paper filter. Man, about December that is a treat on a bowl of Tillamook Vanilla Ice Cream (40% fat and very creamy) or just a cordial.
