Another great video you two. Can I ask what made you wire in the panels in series. I think I’ll be going for 700w wired in parallel and so I can get away with a 100/50 solar controller. Yours is an absolute beast. You probably won’t need a shore connection with that system. Just got our peapod graphics for stickers and logo for the van. Cannot wait to get started 😀
Thanks David! Honestly, it was a recommendation from Roamer. I believe the main benefit is that the MPPT needs a minimum voltage +5v above battery voltage to start charging, wiring in series allows for higher voltage same amps. So in lower light conditions the charger should keep charging compared to paralell you might struggle to get enough voltage for the charger to start charging. Awesome!! Maybe we should get some stickers, not long now till you can get started !! 😁
Thanks, that's interesting and I hadn't thought about charing longer in low sunlight I'll have a think about that. The van build cost just keeps going up and up... and I've not even started yet. We got the stickers to swap/give to other people..... and the girls will put them on the surf boards too. I don't think we will do the youtube thing, but will definitely connect with others on Instagram. We look forward to the next one :)
@@peapod2083 If your concern is the cost of a high amp MPPT charge controller, have a look at Renogy's 150v/60A module. Half as much as the Victron and that's what I'll be putting on my system (I've got 630W in series). I know Victron is the daddy of Solar Systems but not everyone's as rich as Cas & Laz 😆 I think Renogy are a close second in that regard.
Hi Philip, I'm going to have to look into this a little more. I was going to wire in parallel, so the amps onto the batteries are higher when it's sunny. That way you are charging quicker, but not as long a charge window. Thanks for the recommendation. I had be looked at Renogy, but my ocd is steering me towards all blue with victron. Ive got a few more months before my van is delivered, so I have time to think 🤔
