I would suggest keeping battery SOC reset to "keep", otherwise when you shut things down for maintenence it will automatically reset to 100% and you will need to wait another full cycle for it to update

There are several other good companies now, but I have no regrets on being a Victron guy, when I purchased my stuff it was all head and shoulders above the rest.

Hi again when you change the wake up and switch off the inverter to go from on to eco you lost the setting because there was a warning on top asking you to verify the change or the setting will be lost on reset which happen when you switch from on/off/eco it also warns that if you verify the inverter will reset but it will keep the change i also suggest that in smart shunt settings in the what happens on battery SOC on reset to choose KEEP SOC the choice you made will reset to 100% every time the shunt looses power (reset} ignoring the state of charge at the moment of reset if you have for example 40% charge it will reset to 100% keep SOC it will remember the state of charge it was before reset and return to it Hope i helped

It may be important for you to understand the Discharge Floor - especially if you want to use this setup for testing purposes. The Discharge Floor is a buffer capacity reserved below 0% SOC! When discharge floor is set at 10% your "guage" will actually show 0% SOC when you have used only 180Ah of your 200Ah. (so it reserves 10% of your capacity even when SOC shows 0%. Or in other words, it offsets your bottom "empty". It "lies" to you, to keep you "safe" by giving you a extra reservecapacity that don't show up anywhere. It is capacity below "0% SOC" - I hope that makes sense) I always like to see my true SOC, so I leave the discharge floor at 0%. I really only see any other than 0% be handy if, say you were on a boat and you want to make sure you ALWAYS have 10% left for your bilge pump or emergency lighting. - In my setup, I choose to be my own Discharge Floor-indicator (I am a grown up and don't need my system to administrate if I can handle the truth or not😄) I know, when I see a 10% SOC, it truly means I only have 10% left! (This is why I think its important for you to understand it has GREAT influence on what your "fuel gage" shows you)

Yes, I didn't explain what that was. Good adder! I will add that there is a bit of nuance here because the shunt is measuring the amp-hours left in the battery, not the energy left in the battery. (I'm fairly sure). As the voltage heads south the energy left in the battery as a percentage of the full energy of the battery is actually a whole lot less than the SOC shown by the shunt. There are other reasons not to use 0% for that parameter as well. The inverter cut-off is one reason. And the other is that you never want to completely discharge a battery all the way to inverter cut-off if you can help it, simply because you might forget and let it sit that way for too long a period of time. The self-discharge will continue to discharge the battery into cell-damaging territory if the battery is left that way. Because of this, my recommendation is to set the discharge floor between 5% and 10% for display purposes. -Matt

Sure that's one oppinion: offsetting a shunt to give a false reading in order to feel safe! And if your system is in use where you don't attend to it for months, then sure. Otherwise the BMS is fine to take care of of any issues and will protect the cells for months and months after they cut off. Many other shunts don't have the option and they work just fine in systems showing the true reading and that cycles in a normal routine, especially in areas that are used on a daily basis by people :) The offset is no protection - any load will keep going, even when the Victron repports the false 0%. Its only a visual reading that is manipulated. Thats all it is! Anyway, just a matter of of opinion - some like to set their watch 5 min early, to make sure they catch the bus. Others like to have the hard core truth revealed to them: the time is excactly what your watch shows you and they deal with it. My only point was to explain what it actually does to your displayed reading - it is significant to understand this if set to anything else than 0%🙂

@@jbjensen11 Generally speaking the low voltage cut-off of the inverter is far higher than the low-voltage cut-off of the BMS. And you want it to be that way... the last thing you want is to be constantly exercising the BMS's FETs under full load by letting the battery draw down that much. The BMS can only protect the cells from low-voltage destruction if the battery is charged in a decent period of time after the BMS shut-off. Otherwise the self-discharge of the cells (which the BMS has zero control over) will destroy the cells. This margin is considerable but not infinite. Usually going a few weeks with batteries left in such a low state is ok, but to be perfectly frank you never want to let the battery get that low in the first place. Ever. It is literally the only thing which can actually destroy LiFePO4 cells short of boiling the electrolyte. In anycase, the floor doesn't control anything, its for display purposes. But it should represent more than just a mild reminder. -Matt

Yes, we can hear that you are completely obsessed with Victron and I can understand that because it is also the top of the pop. I myself have chosen Growatt as it is also a super product. but instead, as you have chosen to buy an all in one inverter/charger. And I highly recommend that you try such a product. since it doesn't take up that much space. I run 24V but am considering switching to 48V when the money is available. Thanks for some great videos and looking forward to the next one. I will also look forward to you making a live video again. it was super nice to ask you questions and that you answered our questions. All the best to you from little Denmark

Mahalo brother! Yes I get a tad obsessed, no hiding that! Haha! Hey I just got sent an all in one inverter/charger 48v unit for a review, and I am studying it right now and hope to have the first video on it published in next week or so. Aloha to you in Denmark, and thanks for being part of the conversation here!🤙

Well, the all-in-ones are certainly more convenient in many respects. But they aren't nearly as efficient. The growatt's inverter output's idle power consumption is pretty high if I remember correctly which can be a real problem with small solar systems. Otherwise though its a fine hybrid inverter. My personal favorite is the EG4 6000XP. The other problem with all-in-ones... and I'm not knocking them too much because I like them too. The other problem is maintenance and repair. As in... you basically can't repair them, and if one breaks your entire system is down for the count unless you have a spare sitting on a shelf. Warranty or not it can take weeks to get a replacement if you don't. And once out of warranty it's a fairly big bill to replace verses replacing a discrete component of a Victron or similar component-based system. -Matt

With a keyboard you can fine adjust wake up power and shut down power to the single watt of your preference.

I actually had my settings on those exact settings besides the charge voltage, which I had at 14.0... I'm sure constantly peaking the charge voltage ⚡ won't be great for the lifetime of the battery, and we wanna get as much life out of our expensive babies as possible lol😅

looks great ! the settings can be tricky . I had to use totally different ones. NiFe battery . that inverter will loose some settings when you turn off the switch and go to eco mode. if you turn off and on again it will go to default 100 watt . nice matt gave you some settings. save you the time of looking up and or emailing battery company for more info. I did that and they gave me the data . Victron support is great as well. they help me with my settings for NiFe 24V -10 cell 1000 Ah battery string.

Quick tip, the reason it went back to 100 VA is because you didn’t click store settings on the top after changing it to 20 VA, if you power cycle the inverter again, it will lose the changes because you need to click store changes after making the changes in that area

Oh good! I always worry that my walls of words sometimes get skipped (I'm very aware that I often go into too much detail in postings 🙂). You are welcome! Happy solar hacking! I'm not sure why that first attempt at setting the phoenix didn't stick. But... its just a bit of value-add to save power. I don't usually use the ECO mode on the phoenix's. -Matt

Given that you have a unique perspective, vis a vis "smart" versus dumb solar setups, can you maybe share a video on the relative merits of each? My personal experience has mostly been that it's "nice" to know the exact status of a battery state of charge, or exactly how much energy is coming into/out of a system, but for the most part I really just care that it's all working. I have some batteries that have no SOC indication, and I'm OK with that.

Great video. I recently installed this on my boat for my trolling motor. While in use, the app does report what seems to be accurate, however, if i shut the app down for a few minutes and then check it later, it keeps resetting that home screen where it shows the state of charge at 100% and the ah used to 0? Haven't figured out why
