I know this lady (Diane). She is a pain in the ass and she seems to like getting under people's skin. I work for KCS and she used to be a crew caller. I remember trying to mark off Family Emergency status because i had to take my son to the hospital and all she wanted to do was fight me. She thought she had put me on hold once and then proceeded to bitch about a few guys who had marked off earlier in the week and I could hear her clear as day.

I love how she’s all “we gotta be by the book” but yet used seventy-one and fifteen rather than the individual numbers seven one one five like you’re supposed to do.

We deal with two RR dispatchers were I work and they get in just as much trouble if they do not get a correct read back or miss something while issuing.

DL541 a little late response but you jot it all down on your track authority book and can easily be reread if you do it a few times.

She’s not being difficult every single word must be repeated back exactly as said in order to comply with FRA and GCOR rules.

yep it all has to be read back perfect . i know when i have been listening to dispatchers on my radio in my town , the dispatcher has asked who ever is copying that warrant it must be read back exact .

Since TA’s can be sent via PTC now, at least on NS, I don’t think this applies to all Class 1’s now. Seems like they only have to repeat the TA number now. This is what I’ve noticed on NS in my area at least.

Haha even on my rail road this happens with certain engineers. Our dispatch hates to repeat an instruction and can be very irritated, but to comply with rules everything must be repeated verbatim.

Thankfully, some of the local dispatchers here on the UP in El Paso along the Valentine Subdivision of the Sunset Route are respectful, just don't backtalk them or ghost them. If you do so, you might as well dig yourself a grave! Lol

I can tell you i worked on the SCL Tampa division. we made a lot of trips from Rockport to the BV. We used all of our 12 hrs and most of the time made it back to Yeoman yard to track 1 usually.

Example: BV radio channel we would ask the dispatcher for the line or route we needed.

This could have been eliminated if the conductor cross-trained as a dispatcher and exhibited some professionalism in radio operation. The dispatcher is not wrong here.

These folks are numerous these days, they have no past, they have no present, and apparently, no future, so they must exert their power in someway shape or form to validate their miserable existence. She is being a ***** tbh it is not necessary to do a repeat back exactly the same you just need to make sure you have a good copy on the same information ( This is said from the knowledge that I have and understand )

No, actually she's not. She has to say the TWA's exactly as read and if he doesn't say it exactly as read, it could mean her job and same for him. He has to repeat to the letter what she says. You aren't afforded the liberties to take shortcuts in a TWA. 25 years of engineering experience talking here.

Not the engineer, conductor usually copies. If the engineer copies the train must be stopped and he must confirm to the dispatcher that conductor has acknowledged the track authority.
