Thanks, good explanation. The hyperbolic paraboloid turns up everywhere in aviation for example where the wing meets the fuselage.

Very good video. But it would have been nice to show how the graph acts in the xy-trace, not only xz- and yz-trace.

If you really want to know, put zero into the z. Which will lead you to something of the form y=+-sqrt(x^2), which turns out to be a massive cross going through the origin.
