Over the summer, I was allowed up on top of the Duluth Iron Ore Dock, see for yourself what happens when the trains stop rolling and go into places that people don't get to see.
ENJOY!

Thanks! Tried my best, no tripod, free handing isn't that easy!

Nice that you got to go there, but as you say a $25 tripod would have made a big difference. a view few of us will ever have however, so thanks.

I live right by these and I would love to be able to tour them sometime. Ive always liked trains and am used to being stopped by the CN DM&IR ore trains. Great video and thanks

Terrific. Thanks very much. Interesting couplings on those ore wagons, looks like a single bar.

The DM&IR grouped four cars together and I think they called them “mini-quads.” The four cars became one car with one number permanently linked by drawbars with the regular Janney couplers on the ends.

I had a similar tour of the LS&I Marquette Mich ore docks through Great Lakes Railcars(Narcoa) we went up to Republic and some of the mine buildings were still up. Upon our return we ran our motorcars up the grade to the top of the docks. On the way down, we coasted with no engine down past the Yard Office.

How did they open the bottom doors on the ore cars? Did they use a machine?
