The booms go down, the shuttles come out, the ore pours in!
It actually takes a few minutes for the booms to all go down. They then put out the shuttles on the booms to load the ore into the ship. The Ship is in charge of the loading, as in what holds, how much , ballast levels, etc. This ship was a the CN dock loading for about 6.5-7hrs before heading out and speeding away!

Noticed that they're filling every other hatch. Do they fill those, shift the ship 40-50 ft, then fill the second half?

They will shift the vessel to align the chutes. They have a load template to make sure they are loading evenly and not stress the ship.

I've been around these boats all my life I can tell you that the gravity system in Marquette will load the boats much faster than this system in Duluth. Where it takes 6.5 - 7 hours to load the Michipicoten in Duluth it takes only about 4 hours in Marquette.

A lot going on to load the ship. Must be managing the "levelness" all the time. Do they load when it's raining heavy? Pretty cool! Broom and shovel police probably gave #35 a couple demerits. Lol

Seems like they've complicated the process using the current loading method. What was wrong with the old reliable shoots. Much simpler and more efficient, IMHO.

I hear the old gravity chute loading is harder on the ship, less accurate for loading

The gravity chutes are far less accurate, and impossible to load the much wider 1000 foot vessels.

On the previous video I did it shows a large white boom swinging out. The boom has a conveyor belt on it that runs from the boom to under the cargo holds. This allows them to "dump" the cargo onto the conveyor system in a controlled manner and deposit it where ever it needs to be at the destination.

Pretty good speedrun, but if you hold A and B at the same time as you press Start, it causes a glitch that loads the ore immediately, saving a lot of time going into the next stage.

Little late here but that is a auxiliary boiler to supply steam and hot water when the ships main boilers are shut down all ships have a aux boiler and they are called a donkey boiler if you google it it goes back to the mining era when they hauled boilers to mining sites using donkeys

Note the spreading oil sheen at the lower left hand part of the video (later the upper left hand) and the ore dust that is not controlled. Wondering about the mitigation of these hazards?
