Honest climatologists are now saying that this underwater eruption put SO much aerosol water into the atmosphere that it has caused increased humidity worldwide. This of course makes it feel hotter almost everywhere. They think this will last 5-10 years, unfortunately. The atmosphere can hold onto water for a long time. Don't believe that hotness was caused by humans.

In terms of sheer explosivity like megatons of TNT, this eruption may have been close to a VEI 5+. But VEI is measured in terms of tephra (ash and other particulates) ejected and under that scale it looks to be a mid VEI 4 to low end VEI 5, but we won't know this for another month or two.

Ive heard that the scale is closer to VEI-4. The power of the eruption is being visually overestimated, due to the fact that steam generated from lava hitting the water made the eruption look way bigger

Please elaborate why YOU assume that THEY feel abandoned by us around the world. The world/countries may be messed currently but they will never be abandoned by good citizens of the world. I have been on the ground in such disasters during my career. It's truly amazing to see the end result on the ground from the good people around the world. Be it from cake sales, people on the street or outside supermarkets holding out buckets raising money or school children coming up with ideas to raise funds. Not to mention incredible voluntary trained organisations on the ground. I apologise for such a long winded reply but A, Tongans are such wonderful positive people I have had the pleasure to meet. B, for all the hatred and division we are witnessing it is events like this that unite us all and bring out the good in people. Just have faith in good people around the world. Time will tell... 👍

You cant until the ash is out of the air. The ash will solidify inside your vehicle if you get to close. This is survivable for them if they had time to prepare.

In Tonga underwater magma chamber underneath a remote island interacted with sea and caused this massive explosion triggering a worldwide tsunami. Vesuvius eruption may only cause a local pyroplasctic flow. Depending upon which side of the mountain collapses, it may cause harm to Napoli or not. Honestly I am very anxious of Pacific volcanoes since they are very active and have higher yield. When Krakatoa erupted it caused years of famine because plumes hanged out in the atmospehere for a long time concealing sunlight thus negatively effecting crops. Yellowstone on the other hand is a Holywood myth, last eruption was 640k years ago, your home cooker has a higher risk than that, everyone must bet their money elsewhere.

Hunga Tunga caused damage to the local island, but it’s overall impact isn’t expected to be severe. Vesuvius is of great concern not only because of the population nearby but because it’s long overdue for an eruption and Vesuvius has some of the most violent in European history. You would see a severe economic impact, reduction of air travel over the continent and drop in global temperature for the year

@dawn d it ain't a bomb. The explosion was roughly around 10 megaton, which is a large nuclear bomb. There is no radioactive fallout so it wasn't a nuke. Also there is no way that anyone has that amount of conventional explosives anywhere.

@@Stevie-J the only thing that matters is how much ash was pushed into the atmosphere above the troposphere. The fact that the ocean caught some of it doesn’t matter. In this case- a LOT of ash made it really high. That’s why you can see it’s massive plume from space.

@@Yumi_Jay its probably weaker than st. Helens, i saw that early reports say it was the strongest since pinutubo in 1991 and theres been 1 VEI 5 since pinutubo implying this is probably VEI 5. However the sulfer dioxide released was only half of st helens

Satellite phones are working, but rare in Tonga. The country didn't get ham radio until it was brought by visitors in the late 1970s, and there are still few licensed hams or stations there. Government agencies and the general population keep thinking ham radio is obsolete tech, until something like this happens.

Difference in static charge between the air, ground, and the material and ash shot into the air, is my best guess.
