I can’t get over how human like they are. Watching Nene walk reminds me of my Grandma who had a hard time walking straight and had a stick to help her. Love you Nene❤
Nene is the matriarch of the Shabani family. I love her and wish her nothing but a very long happy life🦍❤️🦍❤️🦍 Nene old but she still moves fast LOL Love Shabani and the troop🫶🏽🦍❤️🙏🏽

precious Annie Still stand’s and watches her Father being screamed at and chased by all the others . She has Never joined in. I Feel She Adores her Father and it Upsets her when this stuff happens. She is Still So Thin. She Doesn’t like Turmoil . She seems very sensitive.
The sad thing is when nene would attack annie, her own mother, ai would be on nene's side. It's a shame, but thankfully shabani was always there for his little girl.
Nene is funny. She tries to act big and bad, and chase after shabani. Then she quickly stops when she realizes that he isn't running from her, because she knows what is coming next. But her blood starts boiling over the dumbest stuff. Lol

I just love her ❤ .. Cannot imagine this Troop without her. I know she is the Oldest in captivity . And Gorillas usually don’t live way past 50. I PRAY She defeats the odd’s and Lives way into her 60’s or even longer. It WANT be the same without her. She keeps her Husband and the rest in line. Gorilla society they don’t have a Queen. The silverback is the utmost authority as Shabani has the right to punish his son and she should not make things worst for the whole troop..
16:27 😲 Look at feisty 🌺 Nene using her arms while she barks and alarm screams pleading for Shabani to stop charging at Kiyomasa. Ms. Nene was full of energy on this day. She still moves around quite well for her advanced age of 51 years.
I love how Shabani is like “let me just slide on over the opposite way” and then the chimpanzees had to add their screaming. 😂. Nene is going to live forever if she feels Kiyomasa needs her. She’s always so preoccupied with her baby ❤
What a precious gorilla.She was brought from the jungles of Africa as a young gorilla.Can't imagine what that was like.Just like someone else said...I can't imagine this family without her.Colo, the first born gorilla in captivity at the Columbus zoo lived to just after her 61st birthday.I like to call Nene Granny when I see her.Her devotion to Duckie warms my heart. Most of the time when she walks past him....she HAS TO gently touch him.She also holds Ai's hand when they are lying next to each other on the top of that tall ledge.She has feistiness,courage, loyalty and strength.Granny, I wish you many sunny days lying on top of the tower in peace and contentment.just love you!❤️🦍❤️⚘️😉

They mated but No one knew she was pregnant!they came in to find a new born baby gorilla.she was in bad shape.the vets& doctors revived her.the zoo's director took her home at nite.they dressed her in baby clothes& hats!do u know she never forgot her love for hats and loved to wear them at her birthday parties!they called Colo The Boss Lady.pls look up her story with photos!first gorilla born in captivity in America!!!!💙🦍💙🌻
Nene never saw Ai nurse Annie so maybe she doesn't acknowledge Annie as her granddaughter. These are wild animals and we can't expect them to think like humans.
The silverbacks get all the attention and adoration, but in nature the females decide which males they want as their mates. The silverback leads the troop and enforces discipline, but if the females don't like him or his decisions they will leave and move to another troop. In captivity they don't have that option. They have to do the best they can in the situations they find themselves in. I have a lot of sympathy for Nene, she's never been given real choices about her life, and I have to wonder if her abusive behavior toward Annie was based in frustration. She didn't have the free will she would have had in the wild, so she may have seen the higher ranking baby Annie as too much of a threat to her position as dominant female. My feeling, which certainly could be wrong, is that Nene has just done the best she could based on her strong personality and the politics of gorilla troops. She's a survivor, for sure, and I can admire her strength while acknowledging that she was certainly not a loving grandmother to Annie, unfortunately. At this point I'd love to be able to provide her a peaceful, warm, relaxing retirement. Without Nene there would be no Annie, and no Kiyomasa. She deserves some appreciation and understanding without judging her by human standards.
Did Ai slap Shabani or try to slap Shabani on his back when they were chasing him? 😂 The more I see Ai and Nene the more I like them. They have a lot of personality

Know there animals but can’t stand that her son an Shabani always go after her. Is it because they perceive her as weak because honestly the way she goes after Shabani I love her feisty nature. She fiercely protects her son an he can be such a jerk at times
Shabani may play with her and kinda tease her sometimes, but he doesn't go after her unless she does something wrong. And kyomasa is just at that age where he is going to act out. I think it is kinda his way of telling her that he wants to be separated from her. And that he doesn't want her jumping into every little argument between him and the others.
Thank you for your comment. As you pointed out, the joints are sticking out a little. The way they walk is also unique. I'm 51 years old, so maybe it can't be helped. Indoors it still climbs to high places.

After the gorillas eat, there really isn't much to do. For a while Nene was a good wife to her young sexy husband Shabani. When Nene retired, Ai should have stepped up & became wife #1. Instead of being a wife, Ai would rather play with Annie. Consequently, Shabani is taking his frustrations out on both wives.
Nene is a hindrance to this troop . She’s too old to have more kids therefore she interferes between Aí and Shabani, she kicked and bitten Annie during her childhood and she undermined Shabani authority and made worst for the whole troop . Shabani is still depressed and Annie too. The zoo should send her to another zoo that have just another old gorilla and to give Shabani a chance to breed again! Since He has an elite genes!
Thank you for your opinion. I think there is some truth to that way of thinking, but I think it would be difficult to move Nene in the current situation. I think there is a high possibility that breeding opportunities have been lost.
