Im sure you will read this a LOT in the comments but we missed you so much! These hunting and pickup videos are the best on YT. You do such an awesome job hitting the high points perfectly and getting right to the point, thank you so much for another amazing pickup video! Glad to see you back!
Metal Jesus! It was AWESOME meeting you in Nashville! And even better - seeing YOU walk around places I frequent all the time! Thank you so much for traveling down here. You picked great places to eat and shop. It was an honor meeting you at the panel at the show. Thanks man and keep being awesome.
Glad to see you came here. A bit of a clarification: The area you referred to as Music Row is not actually Music Row. The area you went to is Lower Broadway. Music Row is 16th and 17th Avenues South, and is known as Music Row because of the high concentration of recording studios.
Ok... for some reason there was confusion because one map said to was and another didn't. I actually argued with my wife about it! LOL Thanks for the clarification.
@@MetalJesusRocks @Mike Kunkel is absolutely right. The shot @13:18 during your closing of the video features the Music City Center (the place shaped like a giant guitar). You actually filmed that from Demonbreun St. (Not pronounced demon-brewin, Da-muhn-bree-uhn) and if you kept going to your right for about a mile you'd hit a roundabout, and that's where Music Row starts.
Long time fan of your channel. As a gamer and general dentist, I have experience working with patients that are going through what you are with your dental work. It was cool seeing a new video. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
I'm not gonna lie, it's been a challenge! My front four teeth are currently temporary resin as I use Invisalign to widen my jaw over the next two years...then I'll get either implants or a bridge. But yeah, harder than I expected.
Good to see Jimmy! I remember his RU-vid channel with very good tips for collecting! Thanks for teleportation to Nashville. It is always good to see local food, landscape, culture and game shops! Dragon's Lair was something I saw many years ago in the Game Hall that is sadly closed now.
Other creators: So here are the games MetalJesus: So here is the place I am visiting, all the fun things you can do AND games. You got a talent in making awesome videos.
I have a question for the MJR crew: What are your guilty pleasure games?/Games that are bad but just have a special place in your heart and you come back to them every now and then.
Though many say that it's the worst or not a great zelda, mine is skyward sword. The music and story I love and even though its a zelda game, for me it's a game where a friend sets out to save their friend. Plus when it came out I was lonely and didn't have many friends in school so it felt like I was setting out in my own world to save a friend as corny as that sounds.
Hmmm.... that's a tough one cuz I like a lot of 6 or 7/10 games, ya know? They don't have to be perfect if I get em cheap and they offer a couple hours of stupid fun. I guess the one that comes to mind is Devil's Third on Wii U. I didn't think it was as bad as everybody said! I mean, it's janky as hell... but still a lot of stupid fun too!
Glad you enjoyed Nashville! As a local, glad you went to mckay's! They ALWAYS have something different to look at every time. If you ever come back, try HQ(headquarters beercade), Kung Fu Saloon, and Game Terminal. Amazing barcades to play classic arcades, pinball, unique drinks and of course good food!
Only issues with McKays is you have to watch there prices because sometimes there higher then Ebay is but the play side is with Mckays you can see your games and tell if there real or fake and most of the time they do a good job checking games before they sell them.
@@SirDinielFortesque that's true. It's why I check prices of things I want before I buy it there. Generally though, they're cheaper than other game stores in town
The Broadway area that you were in is basically just a giant tourist trap. There's a joke amongst Nashvillians that if you see anyone wearing a cowboy hat or boots, they aren't from Nashville. No one in Nashville wears cowboy boots or cowboy hats, but tourists think that we just walk around listening to country music wearing our boots. Basically anyone in that area that's from Nashville is just working at one of the bars, restaurants, etc. We consider it to be Nashville's Hell. :)
I lived in and around Nashville for most of my 20s, so this was extra cool to me. Great video as always man. Jack's BBQ has a place downtown and it is always fall off the bone ribs. Also, not downtown I don't think, but the best Hot chicken place is called Hattie-B's for any future visitors. Music Row is also the name for the strip down the road a bit that just has music business and studios all down it. I interned at a publicity company on music row back in the day. Glad you enjoyed it.
Outstandingly awesome trip bro! I love these travel videos where you go to different places. And this one didn't disappoint. Good showing and cool video MJR!👉😃👈
These videos take me back to my childhood, Wouldn't have the time to play or collect them now but fun to live through you're great content. Thanks MJR!
I'm Australian and when I was in Seattle for a couple of days I thought it was amazing that you can pretty much see Mt Rainier from everywhere in the city. Gorgeous mountain.
The original real Faces Of Death II clamshell VHS!!! I used to have that shockumentary but sold it together will all my shockumentaries collection for $200 back in the day. Thanks for showing your adventures at the convention for those of us that can't go!👍
@@MetalJesusRocks ouch! Of course it'll freak you out they don't call them shockumentaries for nothing. Lots of years ago I had visiting cousins at home and there was a 4 year old who wouldn't stay sill no matter what I put on the VCR. So had him watch the original Faces Of Death and he was enthralled! Later that night he woke up having nightmares! Poor Julian!🙉
Ok, this is crazy. My wife and I just moved back to Michigan after 8 years living in the Nashville area. In fact, we lived 6 of those years in Lebanon and I've been to literally every place you visited in this video. That expo center was only about 5 miles away form my house and that's also where the Wilson County fair grounds are.
Thanks for coming to our city! McKays has been a mainstay for years. It's alot harder to find affordable gems there today but years ago it was absolutely rife with 2 or 3 dollar gems.
I remember those days. Lol. I’ve been going to the Nashville location for 10 years ever since they moved to the Bellevue location, and they didn’t know what they had at the time. One of my friends found a loose Hagane SNES cart for like $30. 😂 Now that game is worth over $500 loose!
Glad to see you back making new videos again and hope you continue to heal up man. Aside from the Pickups videos the travel videos and game conventions are my favorite. I'd love to be able to go to swap meets and gaming conventions but budget and time (as well as poor planning) make it very unlikely; so I live vicariously through the experiences you share. Merry Christmas MJR!
Great to see a bit of Nashville, thanks. And just in case no one else mentioned it that is Lower Broadway where all the bars are. Music Row is another street where all of the music publishers were.
I lived in Nashville for 3 years (from the UK). Nashville has become the epicentre of the US music industry. Lots of labels, studios, publishers and producers have moved there over the last 10 years. Resulting in possibly the best music scene anywhere in the World right now. Really varied, and it's shaking off that country assumption with the music scene too. Looks like you had an incredible time.
It’s RU-vidrs like MJR that heightened my passion for retro gaming. His channel introduced me to Radical Reggie and Kelsey Lewis. I live close by Seattle to so I’ve been wanting to game with them sometime.
As a native Nashvillian, love to see my hometown in the spotlight. Game traders has a second store in Murfreesboro, 30 min outside Nashville, that is also great
Happy to see your back at it! I am going through a lot of dental work(don't neglect your teeth people!) and know the struggle is real. Looking forward to years of videos
So glad you enjoyed our wonderful city of music! I used to work at the Mckays in Nash and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can't tell you how many of those "broken" consoles we sell I've bought and refurbished for my collection. If you ever come back, stock is always changing so make sure to visit again!
3:59 McKay's doesn't disappoint! Only one I've been to is in Greensboro, NC on Battleground Ave. Not as big as Nashville but tons of choices. Its Heaven
We always called the At&t building the Batman Building. So glad you caught a glimpse of it from the plane! Hope you enjoyed your trip to Tennessee! Come back anytime!
Used to live near the Mckays in Knoxville TN, and been to the one in Chattanooga a few times, a good chunk of my collection of games and movies came from the one I lived near.
McKays in Chattanooga was my home away from home when I moved from Alabama. When I was feeling down, missing home or just having anxiety I'd go with my change from the week. I got so excited seeing it here.
It’s mostly rock bands in Nashville now. Nashville hasn’t burned 100% country since the 1970s and probably never will be again. I like that you set a reminder your Vegas because Nashville is basically just another Las Vegas now. Dope game finds though! Love it. If you ever make it to Michigan, we have a lot of great spots to pick up good games.
Its nice seeing light on stuff like this in my town. Now I see a new con I have to go to that I didnt know existed . Also Gibson has had a presence here in Nashville for as long as I can remember and im like 23. Thank you for such great content! :)
Awesome video! We did some Pizza Reviews in Nashville. One of the most fun places we have been. Also, the Bonuts at Biscut Love were worth waiting in the long line for! Happy you were able to experience them.
Hi Metal Jesus, It's so great & exciting to see you & your wife going to Nashville in Tennese, Plus you done quite a bit of game hunting including a huge variety of big huge stores, including Acade Machines & so much more, I've really enjoyed watching all your videos especially this one, Take care dude😄😄👌👍👍🎮🕹🎮
That's Broadway not Music Row. Music Row is a few miles away where all the recording studios and the record labels are headquartered. Cool to see you at Game Trader. Love the place.
OOOOh yeah. Nashville is only 3 hrs away from us, so we visit every few months. We don't do country, but they do rock n roll better than most cities. Most years, half of our concerts are in Nashville. I love Broadway. Kudos bro.
Hi Metal Jesus, glad to see you back! Have you ever thought like having a blog or announcement video about upcoming video game expo like this? Currently I live in US and I really want to visit some of the expo. It would be very great if you do that!
So great you are well and back... loved the pickups and the event. That Circus Convoy is amazing 🙂 Also nice to see you are a fan of Time Pilot... I fell in love with that game last time I went to Arcade Club in the UK.
@@MetalJesusRocks yes me as well.. The game Yoshiki Okamoto got fired over at Konami, as he was supposed to be making a driving game LOL ... still I think based on all his work he went on to do at Capcom... he did pretty well for himself :P The Konami Time Pilot on XBLA is pretty good... the art is touched up slightly if set (can switch off) and its a great way to play at home. I am chuffed for me as bought the Arcade 1UP Atari Couchcade in the sale... So great to have my fav arcade games like Centipede, Tempest and Crystal Castle on a trackball and spinner in the home finally. 🙂
I have a lot of free play to do on Time Pilot and more particularly TP84 to get to $1 per hour of enjoyment. I put a lot of paper-route earned quarters into those machines.
If you want to take a risk on buying a scratched disc, local libraries often have a disc polisher and will run your personal disc through it for free. Used CD/DVD shops also have them and charge only a nominal fee to run it for you to see if it will fix any playback issues.
Thanks, MJR! This is just a great series, to see nice video games and simultaneously the places I want to go , when going to US. Also, I really hope you are all right again, as you mentioned health issues lately. All the best and have a nice Christmas time. Greets from Europe ;-)
Finally, my neck of the woods! McKay's is great. It's always a bit of a drive for me, but worth it! I was able to fill out most my 3DS model collection in a single trip.
so glad you visited my city, this place has a huge culture of food and music, great retro gaming stores here too! mckays and both game trader stores are fantastic
Hi Metal Jesus Rocks, I heard about your site by a very old and dear friend, a Rocker, like yourself, who insisted that you are the one to watch. And he is RIGHT!!! Tonight is Friday 16 Dec 2022 and I am sitting in my tiny little den, in South East England watching your trip (on RU-vid) to Nashville, Tennessee, USA. A most enjoyable viewing. The shot you have taken of Mount Rainer, was a lovely sight and an unknown site to myself. Well done! Seeing you in Music City Multi Con, in Nashville and visiting the local gaming stores and eating places, were great choices! What I liked about this video, is that you show (in Lebanon) the different ages, sexes and people of colour, all under one roof, playing videos games, which to my mind is refreshing. Also, the content in which you presented in your show was very informative, particularly to someone like myself, a Brit, who is very interested in Americano pop culture, and tries to keep his hand in the videos games world. Well done to you for that! Also, because I have enjoyed your videos, I have subscribed to your site. Which is something I do not do! If you continue to go on trips and inform in the way you and your wife do, then I am there and I may be forced to spread the good word. Keep up the good work, mate.
Pretty much any big city is going to have game stores scattered around, so it doesn't surprise me that there's many to be found in Nashville. But travel out to the middle of nowhere and you'll find plenty of towns like mine that don't even have a Gamestop, nevermind actual retro game stores.
Nashville: 🎶🎶We're a little bit country...🎶🎶 Metal Jesus Rocks: I'm a little bit...metal?? 🤷♂ Nashville: ??? 🫥😵💫 Awesome finds at Tennessee...can't believe you found the visteon player with the game boy advance. I'm glad you're back!!! 🤘
Glad to see you made it to the Game Trader in Rivergate. Incidentally, I didn't know the guy @5:45 still worked there! I wish the end of town its on was as booming as it was in the 80s and 90s, but with the mall circling the drain and everything south of it going...well, south...I worry that all the outbuildings and strips that exploded around the mall (like Game Trader) will eventually wither on the vine. You're right, McKay's is overwhelming, *especially* if you go there on the weekend when it's absolutely packed. I've never been super enthusiastic about the retro collection there.
Ive been going to McKays for years and years and it seems like theyre really moving away from the retro games. It used to be huge sections with shelves full and now its just a couple glass cases. Generally overpriced too
It's called the MUSIC City Multicon. You kept calling it the MULTI-city multicon. I didn't get to go to this, but I do hope you and the crew enjoyed your stay here in Nashville/Lebanon. Music Row is actually several blocks away where the studios are. The part of town you were at was more of a giant honkey tonk. Cmon back when you can! Don't be a stranger!
Great upload MJR! So glad you're back in black! 😂 People these days won't know what it felt like to get your name on the top of the high score list to come back every time to see nobody has beaten it.
Jason, I’m very familiar with Nashville. I went to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro TN from 1995-1998 and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production/Sound Engineering/Music Business. Yes a born and bred New Yorker went to college in the south to get a music production degree (reason being was one of the few places that could learn audio production without having to be a musician.) Nashville is a great city. I had visited it many times went to about a dozen concerts….would love to revisit it someday. Haven’t been there in about 25 YEARS!? Shit….now I realize I am getting old. The city has definitely changed since I was there. I would love to go back & spend time visiting it.
dude, music row is where all the music labels are along Music Square. where you were was at the honkey tonks along Broadway. great to see you came to visit though! (YES, I live there)
I'm working on getting a video game convention setup here in Fort Smith, Arkansas. I hope I'll be lucky enough to have people like Metal Jesus visit it
I'm so jealous. My wife and I lived in Nashville for two years during the pandemic so we couldn't go anywhere. You saw more of Nashville than we did lol. We lived two miles from McKay though. We were there every week.
Great stuff man! Glad you dug McKay's, it's probably my favorite store here. There is another place you need to check out called The Great Escape the next time you visit. Also, hilariously accurate about the overwhelming drunk crowd on music row.
