I like video games, hopefully you like video games, but if you don't, that's okay. You can watch a guy who likes video games talk about why he likes video games. twitter - / stryxo twitch - / stryxo discord - / discord
@@Lethal_Spoon Sifu was a pretty good game and Lego star wars they skywalker saga as well also I guess it's not the best game but Dying Light 2 was pretty fun at times also Elden Ring is an amazing game and I am not a big fan of God of War but Ragnarok was pretty good as well
THIS IS SO TRUE!!!! So many people lock themselves into playing one genre and think that any other game in any other genre is just automatically bad. I used to be like this too. I actively try to play games from genres I've never cared about just for the sake of trying it. Finding out about just one extra genre you like opens up an entire WORLD of games to play.
This is how I've never felt burnt out of gaming. Whenever I feel tired of playing, I try another genre. That's how I discovered that I love turn based combat in games like XCOM, rpgs with the classic Fallouts, the relaxing nature of Stardew Valley, the unforgiving combat of tactical shooters or the highs of racing games like Burnout
Branching out and trying something new is something I really ought to do more of - there's a lot of meaningful experiences to be had in the gaming world. It's what led me to Outer Wilds, one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've ever had. Perhaps it's time I try something new again since I haven't felt drawn in by gaming as of late.
No idea how anyone can consider gaming to be "dead" when we have literally 1,000 games coming out annually. At this point if you want to play anything below a 7/10 you have to make the conscious decision to do that or do something like Day 1 Purchase. And yes 7/10 is a good rating.
One thing to keep in mind is that a game with a big fanbase will often give a lot of bad buzz about said game. For example, if you're only exposure to Undertale is the fandom surrounding it, you're view is going to be severely distorted. But when you go to try the actual game itself... the game might turn out to be really good! The fandom really doesn't reflect the game itself, so always be sure to try the game for yourself, as you'll probably get a different experience than what the fandom might portray it is.
It was opposite for me with Undertale. People just hyped it so much, fanbase calling others a terrible human being for not liking the game. So I thought this might be something spacial. What I got was nothing but a mediocre cliched experience made for 16 year olds.
@@Delta-Snake I had a similar experience with Super Metroid. Everyone hyped it up to be some timeless masterpiece, but when I actually played it myself I just kinda thought it was alright. Not a bad game, but not a masterpiece either.
My favorite thing to say is the reason you don’t see anyone talking about how much they enjoy games is because they are to busy playing them. Im glad you made this video as I was starting to believe I was the only person who actually enjoys games anymore.
When you focus on only the bad things and claim that you just want gaming to be better, you are still being negative. I mean, his whole video format is "[insert subject here] sucks." If you think there are that many bad things about gaming and you rarely cover any of the many good things about gaming, then maybe gaming isn't for you anymore and you need to take a break.
i think being a game dev kind of helped me in not having to deal with ths issue of getting tired of video games, as ill often play different kinds of video games just for "research" purposes, often times ill find games i might not have played otherwise, and ill also have lots of fun picking up on a lot of different design aspects in a game while playing playing the new zelda for example has had think a lot about all the neat solutions they came up with to problems that existed with breath of the wilds mechanics
Funny that people suddenly realize Breath of the Wild had a lot of problems when TOTK dropped. BOTW was regarded as a near perfect masterpiece by critics when it came out and it is one of the highest rated games of all time. Then, when TOTK dropped, all the critics said that "TOTK fixes all of the problems with BOTW." Wait, BOTW has a bunch of problems now? Well, if BOTW had that many problems to fix, then I guess it didn't deserve the universal 10/10 reviews.
not many feelings better than trying out a game you didn’t expect to like at all and end up loving it or disliking a game at first then coming back to it and having a blast on it
This was me at the beginning of this, I made it a goal to play genres that I was initially very apprehensive about and it’s honestly done wonders. I really only played FPS games up until this year and It is so refreshing to play games where the solution isn’t always shot it till it dies
I am SO glad you played Metal Gear Rising and DMC 5. The memes are strong with those two. And they are both great games. But, to truly get the DMC 5 experience, you have to download the mod that changes Vergil’s throne into a plastic lawn chair.
I recommend the new Legend of zelda game for nintendo switch. It doesnt have the best graphics or the best fps but that doesnt matter. The game's story and gameplay is creative and amazing. I beat it two days ago and it might be the best video game I have ever played.
2 games that got me back into gaming these last 6 months are project zomboid and the yakuza series. Highly recommended. Thousands of hours later and I'm back to gaming almost daily
I am playing the same game for like 6 years now, and I still have fun. But I also tried some indie games and I gotta say I missed out some great games.
i feel for gamers that arent like me, and cant put hundreds and hundreds of hours into one game over the course of several years. i feel like its because thats how i always played video games especially growing up poor. gaming is a luxury i couldn't indulge in with more games, so i played the hell out of the ones i already had, just trying out every possible idea in my head. i was happy to do this, as i thought that was the point of games. and even to this day, i still play like that 6 year old who cried because they couldn't find a "triangle button" on the gamecube controller for a "triangle jump"
I played through the entirety of Jet Set(Grind) Radio on an original Dreamcast recently on stream and it honestly made me happy about playing games again another thing you do if you're feeling burnt out is play an older game that you use to love and reconnect with it and your love for gaming all over again.
To anyone averse to reading, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Gnosia. It’s a spacey game that makes you think right down to the core what you want. Logically having to solve the mystery of who’s who and what’s lying aboard a ship in the future. Amazing and narratively driven, 10/10z
The one issue with this is that a lot of games are frickin’ expensive these days. It’s kinda cost-prohibitive to just try a game and see. And to be fair, I honestly mostly do play indie games these days, which is much cheaper. But even at indie prices, having two or three games in a row prove unenjoyable to you will have severely set you back.
Most games people haven't played are practically free right now. Most expensive games are only the newest ones. TitanFall 2 on Steam at the moment is like $3. And on top of that you have free mods. I've spend hundreds of hours playing Doom 2, Half-Life mods, all of them were free.
Indie games make video game fun again, at least for me since 2 of my favorite sub-genre which is survival horror and stealth die (or at least being stagnant) within AAA industry. I tried another sub genre like city-sim and immersive-sim, absolutely loved it
I would by no means say survival horror is dead seeing how good the games have already been this year. Yeah two of them are remakes (RE4 and Dead Space) but they are simply amazing regardless. Meanwhile we have Amnesia The Bunker coming out next month and having played the demo, I can already tell it is going to become one of my favorites.
@@graphite7898 maybe I'm a bit picky for survival horror 'coz I've never considered RE4 and its brethren a survival horror, just some action game slapped with some monster and gore. Again, survival horror is being stagnated with remake instead of new IP or installment. I agree with The Bunker, tried the demo and instantly felt in love. But again since Frictional Studios is an indie dev is one the reason why they're not afraid to explore relatively new idea like The Bunker hence making survival horror great again
Had my own version of this recently, though for me it was less burnout and just more being a functional adult and having less time for games. But anyways, I've never been a big fan of horror. Not cos I get scared easily, but because many popular horror games are just stealth games with ambience, and the idea of moving incredibly slow while avoiding detection has always struck me as boring instead of tense. Still, despite this, I heard good things about Signalis and decided to give it a try, and ended up enjoying it way more than I ever expected to. Also applies to other popular games I might not have otherwise tried, such as Neon White, Tunic, and Hi-Fi Rush (though my lack of rhythm does make it a bit hard for me to enjoy that last one).
If you haven't already, you should play Ultrakill. It's a really good game and it's difficult. (of course only difficult if you play on higher difficulties) and is extremely rewarding when you beat a boss, and can even give you a new gun. The game is extremely replayable, considering there's a lot of secrets to uncover, that you likely would not have found in your first play through. Over all the game is rewarding and has a large arsenal that you can pull off some awesome combos with. So if you haven't played it, you should check it out, and you might find it fun.
Imo GoW’s combat really shines in the post game. All the challenges really force you to understand the systems in ways the main story never did. Like, try facing the Valkyrie Queen and tell me GoW’s combat is shallow. That boss gave me more trouble than most Souls bosses I’ve fought. Edit: Obviously it only shining in the post game is an issue, but even so.
I got aoe 2 for me and my dad not to long ago and we love it, I also did the same thing with trying different games and because of that games like the binding of Isaac rebirth are some of my favourite video games ever.
Honestly, it was cyberpunk 2077 that brought me back into gaming. I never really got that into any rpg games before. Was more of a fps multi-player or racing game. I have always loved the competitive nature of them since I'm a pretty competitive person, but I got hooked into the hype of cyberpunk and pre-ordered it and was initially obviously disappointed by the game I always stuck with it and in the end found one of my favorite games of all time and game that keeps bringing me back consistently.
I'd also like to add that sometimes you may try something that sucks or doesn't quite hit the mark, but which then regenerates you love for something you had been burned out on. "Well this was an at-best adequate experience, but wow my beloved burn-out-cause shines so brightly in comparison, and i now have a whole new perspective on it that makes me appreciate it even more!"
Yes, it very much is a good idea to play a wider varierity of games than just one or two. Minecraft is my favorite game and has been for the last decade or so since it allows me to explore my creative self. However, I play it alongside a wide varierity of other games, so that I don't get burned out.
Can't wait for the Foekoe gaming video talking about this video. Also, as much as I'd want to branch out more with video games, I LITERALLY CAN'T, I get like two, sometimes three video games a year.
I was burnt out a lot too, then I started playing more lesser know games or just some indie games I never heard of and by far the game that I loved the most was Dead Cells absolutely in top 5 favorite games of all time. I also went out of my comfort zone for two areas- 1. Slower paced games such as RDR2 and I’m incredibly happy I took that step because, and this may be surprising to some people, it was just spectacular, and imo opinion damn near perfect. The second type of game I took a try at was super hard challenging games like the from software games and Sekiro was another game that kept that spark going. My favorite combat system in any game
My two favorite indies are Enter the Gungeon and Slay the Spire. HIGHLY recommend. Gungeon is a sweaty game, and StS is basically infinite replayability.
Only times i had fun with Video Games this year were - Immortals Fenyx Rising - Assassins Creed Origins - Child of Light - Valiant Hearts The Great War
Branching out can be quite intimidating especially if you havent before but it genuinely helps you find games that you could enjoy in the future I used to always overlook things like Stardew Valley or ACNH because I didnt like games in a similar genre like sims or uh sims... yeah I dont like sims 😔but when I tried them both out I enjoyed them a lot its like when someone asks you if you want to watch a movie but then you say it looks unintresting but then when theyre watching it you catch yourself watching it because it is actually interesting and something you never thought you would like if that makes sense
I straight up do not have this problem at all my place so many games so many different genres at this point I can't really get bored maybe by next year I'll have a actual computer for playing games on then I could play the thousands of steam games
Earlier this year in February, after recommendations from pretty much everyone online, a close friend's hearty recommendation, and my own interest having listened to the music, I decided to play Persona 5 Royal. I knew it'd be a good game, but I wasn't sure how much I'd personally enjoy it. I have a busy schedule that means a 120 hour RPG isn't the _best_ type of game for me to play, and generally I'm just not a huge RPG fan. Hell, I started Final Fantasy 7 summer last year, got through Midgar, had to go on a trip for a week where I couldn't bring my Switch, and I've still yet to go back. As it turns out, having JUST come off of finishing Pokemon Violet which was simultaneously fairly enjoyable and absolutely atrocious (aka, not helping my opinion on RPGs overly), Persona 5 was a masterpiece. It's now one of my favorite games of all time and has single-handedly gotten me into the whole Persona series and RPGs as a whole. After finishing it I moved swiftly onto Persona 5 Strikers, the direct sequel/Musou spinoff. That was also fantastic and although it didn't get me into a whole genre since I'd played Hyrule Warriors before then, it was still thoroughly enjoyable, though only a 9/10 unlike P5's 10/10. And then the day after I finished Strikers I moved onto Persona 4 Golden which I played in roughly a month, and even though it's been just two weeks since I finished it, Persona 4 is my new favorite game of all time. Its story and specifically characters hit me on such a deep level that to some extent it's changed my life for the better, and when no game has ever done that to me, yeah it's gonna be my favorite game of all time. It helps that it's actually a really good game too! Pretty much, if you have interest in a game that isn't necessarily your preferred style of game, just go for it if you don't have anything better to play. Or go for it even if you do have something better to play, nothing's stopping you from playing multiple games at once except yourself and maybe a crippling addiction to Tears of the Kingdom. If you don't go for it, at best you'll miss out on something that might've been a dud for you personally, but even then that still helps you figure out what other games you might be interested in by process of elimination. At worst, you could miss out on a life-changing experience that could've stuck with you for the rest of your life. I know that if I wasn't told time and time again to play Persona 5 that I'd have waited a few more years at least to play it and who knows if I would've had the time to play the whole 120 hour game, let alone a 30 hour spinoff after that and another 70 hour RPG. But I played it when I did and I haven't regretted it in the slightest. tldr play games you like and play games you think you'd like. game pass is perfect for trialling games before committing so if you've got an xbox grab a game pass sub for a bit, check out whatever you think looks cool, and go from there
June 4, 2023: Branching out is something I struggle with a bit. I know I should do it more. In fact one of my favorite game series (being God of War) was alien and foreign to me. The only reason I ever gave it a shot was because someone very close to me talked about his experience with the game. Regardless I have a problem with only playing FPSs, and while I haven’t been burned out on Team Fortress, Duke Nukem 3D, or Halo yet, I really feel as if I should try something new. Thanks for helping me. I’m thinking about trying fighters or Elden Ring. June 12, 2023 edit: I have tried Elden Ring. It’s great, even though I die to literally everything.
Seen the foekoe video yesterday When he talks about this topic , and i liked his view of the whole "games arent fun anymore" drama i recommend watching it
For some reason the games I hold of playing are usually the ones I love the most. For example, I've been playing the ''souls'' series since 2011 and every release past that except sekiro. I played Sekiro way later and honestly its one of my all time favorite games of all time. You don't level up like dark souls though you get stronger by killing bosses, but that also forces you to get good enough to defeat them. Its something with being able to take on groups of people if you're skilled enough that no other game have given me as much dopamine doing.
Hey Stryxo, I know you probably won’t see this but since you like City Skylines I really recommend the game Satisfactory. It has a pretty boring sounding premise at first but I guarantee it’s more fun then it sounds, it has lots of things from city skylines like railroad and highway creations to transport resources and a great building system to show creativity so I think you should really try it out.
A game I would recommend is chivalry 2. It is quite a unique game where you can play without spending extra money to get better. Battlepasses there also last forever
I'm just waiting for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. Sadly, it comes in autumn, so I can't play it until it's summer again. There a lot of games in year, and I just can't play them all in 3 months, maybe that's why I want to be a streamer sometimes.
I have been playing games for so long that i forgot the reason why i love it. I love this hobbie because its Fun, but instead of having Fun i was looking to "have fun the right way" with them. I felt obligated to play a game, finish them or whatever even if it wasnt fun for me, so my love decreased. Once i let this stupid ideas go, i begin to have fun again and now im very happy
It's funny the exact samething happened to me, about the same time with your last vid and this. I've never been as addicted to video games as now in a long time, been playing strategy games, turnbased, third person action, builders, survival, horror, factory games especially and indie games. It's awesome. I find the hard part was just starting, didn't think the games was gonna be good, so instead I just didn't play, oh what a mistake
I think what people mean when games aren't fun anymore is referring to live service games that are psychologically designed to addict you and try to get more money out of you. PvP that emphasizes sweat matches as daily missions to get anything, rotating metas designed to make you want to buy the skin for new characters, regrinding out of season items (mostly referring to Destiny with this one, but widely applicable), where busy work replaces a fun gameplay loop to get your battle pass done. The same trends being homogenized in a soup of the same stale mechanics and visuals. None of these things are about actually having fun, this is why indies are flourishing and people have been playing single player games more I think, people are just tired of the usual slop that is the face of "modern gaming".
Try playing the legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom. Easily the best game to come out this year it’s pretty much guaranteed 100+ hours per play through. It has a good storyline and fun gameplay. Literally the only downside to it is that is on Nintendo switch
If you are an Age of Empire's 2 fan and a star wars fan, I highly recommend looking at Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. It functions pretty similar but with a few changes. Just something to consider when looking for new stuff.
I felt a similar way until I took a chance and dove into JRPGs with Final Fantasy and Xenoblade. I have been missing out on so many amazing stories for way too long. Xenoblade DE became one of my favorites immediately, only for Xenoblade 3 to take the top spot shortly after. Games are more than crunchy and addictive gameplay loops. They can tell meaningful stories with relevant and deep themes, create characters that inspire and intrigue, or create rich worlds with extensive histories and interesting cultures.
Being more intelligent about game purchases is step 1, I think. I spent like 2 hours on a discord call with friends doing some very DEEP searches on Steam, and I found a couple games that really excited me! They were fast paced action games with multiplayer. I hate menus and progression systems - just give me a good time that I don't have to grind for. One of those games is Roboquest. The trailer and the store tags sold me. I wishlisted it. Bought it on sale a couple days ago, and it's a good time! I may not play it for 10 hours, but I don't need to. I spent 15 bucks for an hour of entertainment alone, and 5 hours of entertainment with friends. That's a really good deal.
Stryxo, I need to let you know that i am a really big fan of yours and love to watch your videos. For 2 months i thought you were making 1 video but i saw you uploaded 3 more videos. I think RU-vid is reccomending less due to something that i dont know but i think you should take attention to this ^^ :)
Yeah I was in the Same boat as you until I started playing the older ac games and now I found my fun again. So here’s to another round of gaming until I get burnt out of that
