The way PotP Optimus transforms for the super mode, I would say it would have made for a decent Ginrai remold. Had they not done Ginrai in Titans Returns already
I like how they made the chest windows on the smaller convoy look like armor panels, usually I don't mind faux parts when they look different from the thing they're supposed to be
The inner robot should have been what came with the PotP bot instead of the Orion Pax gimped figure, and the outer shell should have been powermaster prime. Then we would have a much better Powermaster Prime than the Titans Return one.
While the white background you normally have does make it look professional. Especially for promoshots. But for some figures, particularly ones that have a lot of white, I appreciate a non-white background like that. What with whitebalancing and what not.
ever stop to think how much explaining you have to do, to tell a non-transformer fan what this is exactly? This is based on a japanese exclusive toy with the description of a resurrected prime (for the 3rd or 4th time?) in a new body. this toy itself is a retool of another version of g1 optimus prime toy that has the base robot based on an episode of the original transformers cartoon of what optimus prime looked like before he became prime. That and this toy also do the combining with the trailer gimmick that power master optimus prime had, or Ginrai in japan (whose is NOT optimus prime), but not the powermaster optimus prime toy that came out the year before the original release of this toy in the titan's return toyline, for which that toy doesn't do the gimmick that the original toy that, that version optimus prime had been known for but is instead a titan master, an updated version of headmasters (a transformer whose head can be removed and become a driver for the alt-mode), which was an entirely separate play gimmick that predated both starconvoy and powermaster prime (ginrai). finally the original starconvoy toy did not include a smaller convoy (did I mention convoy is optimus prime's japanese name but also isn't ginrai, he is someone who just looks like optimus), it was a stand alone truck and trailer combo to robot design with a base mode included, much like both the original powermaster prime and titan's return powermaster prime toys had. non-transformer fan: you completely lost me after japan.
I would basically say this is G1 Optimus's Japan-exclusive ultimate form after he's brought back to life post-movie. Most normal people would understand that, even if its an incomplete story.
@@musicfighter282 Takara-Tomy did craft a different path for Optimus: he was resurrected in Kiss Players (which takes place between the movie and season 3), but died once more towards its end. He was brought back in the season 3 finale... only to be killed off in The Headmasters (takes place after the season 3 finale). Vector Sigma resurrected him for Unite Warriors manga for only a week, so his friends made those days enjoyable (the manga pages that come with Unite Warriors Defensor, Convoy Grand Prime and Lynxmaster). After he passed away, Vector Sigma says he can only be brought back to life by the power that created the universe (i. e. the Zodiac from Zone) Optimus was brought back as Star Convoy in The Battlestars manga. Does your head hurt?
*I was wondering how they were going to incorporate the star on his chest! I am not a fan of chrome on a high traffic piece, though (could easily chip and it is a big fingerprint magnet). The matrix (LOVE the chrome on it!) combining with the ion rifle is completely dopey, though, the shoulder guns look BADASS! For what is in essence an online exclusive, they could have painted the hands blue. what paint would you recommend for the hands?*
In my head canon, Primus recognised Ginrai's soul as that of Optimus Primes and converted him into a fully mechanical being (similar to Buster and Hydra) which is the Prime Master, the Risen, Ginrai could now use Cybertrons own energy fields for himself and merge with the trailer to form Star Ginrai.
I'm really glad that you made the comment about action master Prime, because that's what I was seeing too. I was also psyched that you mentioned the TR Hot Rod in homage to the original Star Convoy set.
Very impressive. Remember seeing Manga pictures of him amd well prior seeing Megatron and Convoy working side by side and Convoy with Destron symbols was a shocker. I am tempted but the price point is the iffy factor.
The legs are even looser than on the PotP mold? Peaugh, on mine, Orion's right leg falls off the second I try to move it. Tried all manner of ball-tightening tricks, superglue, nail polish, paper towrl bits. Nope. So my PotP Optimus only has one mode - big bot. :(
Funny, I ordered mine from BBTS in April, and havent gotten any updates. When I clicked on the page for the figure, it brings up an error. Should I be worried?
Honestly, this generations selects toy should've been for powermaster optimus prime, I know people are happy to see a star convoy and we already got powermaster prime in titans return, but that was a headmaster and due to it being a retool of CW magnus, no core robot, POTP prime has a core robot and alot of stuff, no Hi-Q sadly but still, I also don't think the mold works for star convoy and I hate it for that, first the original star convoy had some cool chest windows that would inspire the chest windows on animated optimus prime, but this being a retool of POTP prime, he has the regular windows, and his alt mode is completely wrong, he's supposed to be a long nosed truck with a huge trailer that he tows with the roof, but considering this is a retool, it's this now, and POTP prime would make for a good marvel comics version, just take the base figure, give him headlights on the waist section, give him some of those gun stacks, and give him the head along with the star convoy core figure, and we never see that design in official merchandise and sad because I like that design, which makes me hate this guy more, hopefully this guy can be retooled into a marvel comics powermaster prime in legacy someday
