The ocean has gotten hotter, and warmer water is more volatile, making bigger storms. Very sad for Florida and other states near that position but this is the new normal.

i think they were talking about the eye of the storm. when you get hit with hurricane directly, you get the storm hard then an hour or so relief point when eye goes over you then the back half slams down hard right afterward
I don't understand why some people refuse to evacuate and just pass it off as an overreaction. Better safe than sorry. Please don't expect people to make you a priority for rescue because you refuse to listen to evacuation orders. Please be safe everyone. We are all watching and praying for you.
Because it's usually an overreaction. I can not tell you how often the local news stations make a big deal out of a storm and it barely done anything but knock out the lights for a couple hours. Most people are evacuating this one... the ones staying behind are... not exactly smart..
Well I think also some people can’t. No money or transportation. But even then if I were in that situation I would do whatever I can to get me and my family out of there.
The lie is already shifting from “climate change is a hoax” to “ ‘they’ are causing/manipulating the weather.” MAGA instinct is always to find a scapegoat.
I survived hurricane beryl earlier this year in houston and it was hell. Electricity went out. No gas anywhere. Food in the stores got rotten bcuz of no electric. Best advice is to leave and come back when there is sanity.
The weather behavior is something that was described to us back in the past, when climatologists and scientists like Carl Sagan predicted the future course of our world weather under climate change. What we are seeing today is EXACTLY what they warned us about. Maybe it's time we listened. Or at least write our names on our arms with Sharpies.....

I only hope that they are sensationalizing and it won't be as bad as we fear and that the residents still err on the side of caution and get out of there.
Stop trying to exaggerate everything. I’m in Ft Myers right now. It IS- in fact- expected to weaken to a 3 (and is trending that way now). No, it won’t be anywhere close to the most damaging hurricane; in 2022 Ian hit in Ft Myers as a strong Cat 4 (2 mph from a 5) and washed away Sanibel island, Ft Myers beach and submerged Naples in 10’ of water. This storm, while dangerous is not as strong (by a full category) and while surge is a problem, the fact that the storm isn’t riding up the coast like Ian or Helene means it’s relatively localized. This is my 10th storm with the Law enforcement Agency im with. We want people to exercise caution but declaring things “catastrophic”, “most damaging hurricane ever” and “a strong Cat 4 and not expected to weaken” just cause people already under a lot of stress, to panic. Save the hyperbole and just report the situation please

They let builders develope these areas, then they let people move there, but yet they are so concerned with their safety whenever a Hurricane moves in. Then tell them to leave with no gas, and no roads to handle the exodus.
Okay so the Hirricane smashing into the cool front is going to cause alot of tarnadoes which makes this storm the more dangerous. So there will be an abnormal amount of tarnadoes because of the front.
I really hope it's not going to be as bad as they are predicting, but global warming is doing its damage. I hope governments take it seriously and start implementing meaningful changes to minimize the effects as much as possible.
Are these people still trying to get out? Will they have time? This is just awful. I worry about all these people. I worry about all the animals. I live in NewYork state, the most we get is a bad snow storm. I can’t even imagine losing everything. All I can say , I hope everyone gets through this, and get all the help they need after to rebuild. Stay safe.
