Iran (and their cohorts like Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthi's) don't generally target politicians or military. They specifically target civilians. So yes, when terrorists target civilians, there are frequently civilians that get hurt. However, I have not heard of any civilian casualties from this attack, yet.

If you saw a fire trail it means those were fragments, not intact missiles. The rocket motor would have already been expended this close to the target and there would be nothing to see until impact and detonation of the payload. Another indication is that you didn't see explosions on the ground.

Thanks for the Iron Dome and other modern systems. Had this been done 15-20 years ago the story wouldve been different. The Iraqi strikes in 91 had more effect than this.
Those missiles are clearly landing. I mean you can see it clear as day. They will lead you to believe that the "Iron Dome" intercepts all missiles but you can see it doesn't.
Israel doesn't attempt to intercept things that will hit unpopulated areas. Additionally, when you see those red lights coming down, those have already been intercepted. Ballistic missiles are only powered during their boost phase. On the way down they're un-powered and in free fall, so there is no light from the rocket motor at that point. We're seeing light because they're on fire due to being intercepted already. Also note that when those lights hit the ground, you are _not_ seeing or hearing the accompanying explosion that would indicate that they were still functional.
@@zoomous4424 Ballistic missiles are not intercepted by Iron Dome, this is primarily David's Sling. And David's Sling is far from as well developed and tested. It is incredibly hard to defeat 400 ballistic missiles when you can only put up a fraction of the interceptors against them within a given time, and Iran launched more threats then Israel had interceptors ready for them. The attack also didn't last long enough for expended batteries to get reloaded, the issue wasn't lack of interceptors but primed launch vehicles. Iron Dome, you're 100% correct it's been 'battle tested' for so long it is the world best short range interceptor system.

Two answers: 1. They don't. This attack wasn't telegraphed. But their missiles take hours to reach Israel, so they are predictable. 2. I don't think Iran wants Israel to retaliate. If Israel retaliates, they will aim at the nuclear program in Iran and precious infrastructure dear to Iran. So Iran wants to show they react when attacked to look big and scary. But I think that if they can show some muscles without doing much damage (because they trust Israel to intercept their rockets), than they can prove a point without escalating too much.
