Giles Correy died like a bad ass . They killed him by pressing him to death ( basically stacking weight on him until he suffocated or was crushed). Even during the execution they kept trying to get him to confess but all he kept shouting was " more weight , add more weight!".
I didn't enjoy a lot of stories we had to read in school. But this was pretty good. I liked the way that Arthur Miller used the story to express his feelings after being blacklisted as a communist.
French Revolution, Rise of third Reich, Soviet Revolution, cultural revolution and more. All witch trials. It's amazing how sheep like people can be. Cultural Revolution, French Revolution and BLM have the most in common: clown shows.
This video is great but it doesn't talk about how Abigail set Elizabeth up with the doll with a needle in it and how Abigail stabbed herself. And it doesn't talk about who dies in the end
Rebecca the old lady is the best character. The only person in this book that seems to have a common sense. She was accused of being a witch too, but instead of confessing to get out of being hanged, she denied it and would rather have died with honor.
@@kimberlydang4403 I mean at least proctor tried to redeemed himself to his wife during that time and tried to save his wife with the other husbands. Rebecca is a inncount women who deversed nothing of what happened(like most of them). Hale is I think the first judge to realized they fucked up and didn't continue this bullshittery after his realization. Abigal can die in a ditch though.
+Joe and Pam Bell Why do you care? Get a life and mind your business shut up. I don't care I'll say however I want and how about say that shit to my face

..........no mention of how this play is an allegory for the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Miller wrote this play in response to everyone and their mother being accused of Communism.
Dear Sparknotes, Thank you SO much for all your videos! They are amazing!! Everything is so easy to understand! You guys are doing great job!! Thank you!!!!
This video also left out an IMPORTANT event: Mary warren works for the Procter Famliy. When she goes over to the Procter home, she tells the family about who is accuessed and she gives Elizabeth a doll that she has made. Mary had stuck a pin inside the doll for safe keeping. Elizabeth takes the doll and sends Mary away. When Elizabeth is aressted; the officals find the doll and see that the doll has a pin inside it. They think that Elizabeth had done that to the doll to hurt Abigal. (Voodoo)
John Proctor represents what manhood is and demonstrates human error and regret. This is a beautiful story that still represents human nature, that is still seen today in modern day life. I am murdering the exam tomorrow !!!!!!!! #beautiful
THE FACT YOU EVEN TRY TO DEFEND THIS BOOK MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. I AM ASHAMED TO SHARE OXYGEN WITH THE TYPE OF CREATURE YOU ARE, READING THIS WAS WORSE THAN WATCHING THE SECOND PLANE HIT THE TOWER YOU PRIVLIGED WHITE STRAIGHT MAN. I HOPE YOU FAIL YOUR EXAM AND CHOKE ON YOUR NEXT CAPRISUN
I played Reverend Parris in a community theater production of this play. It was SO much fun, and it was a dream come true for me. it really is a wonderful play.
Isn't it important to note that betty woke up when Abby was screaming at everyone to keep their mouths shut which made it obvious that she was faking the entire time?
That was good but you forgot to mention the whole bit where Danforth discovers Elizabeth is pregnant and when he gives Proctor the opportunity to save Elizabeth, he denies as he cannot give up on his friends who have also gone to the court to testify. Other than that, good study tool before my exam tomorrow (shootout to anyone else studying this play with 12 hours left until their exam).
just a quick addition, i do believe that it was stated that John Proctor did sign the confession, but then ripped it up as he didn't want it to ruin his name by being posted publicly.
Had 3 weeks to read this play and im on my final day before the work is due and just finished it all before the deadline, bless the makes of this video
For anyone wondering, marginalised and empowered perspectives were explored in the text. The crucible in itself is an allegory for the McCarthyism that took place during 1950s America where those who were allegedly branded as "communist supporters" were killed as much like the girls in the witch hunt trials of Salem. It is a masterpiece as it's socio-historical context can be linked to modern society with Muslims being called or claimed as terrorists and hence feared by the rest of society. The mass amounts of hysteria displayed in the film were all to reveal the dark corruption in political systems of America during Arthur Miller's lifetime. Fun Fact: A crucible is a piece of lab equipment that can withstand extremely hot temperatures. In the film/play, it is used as a symbolic device as the embodiment of the heat of mass hysteria in Salem Massachusetts 1692.
bro i have the best history teacher alive and for our first day in highschool we learned about this and we had to role-play as well. me and my friend were re-enacting the fits they were having. it was really fun lmao
I love video summaries. Don't get me wrong I still read the book, but if you read something like The Scarlet Letter, it's good to know what everyone's referencing before you go in trying to wrap your mind around vague meanings. Thumbs up if you do this!
Thanks SparkNotes :) you just helped me review for my final!! p.s. first time viewers...I still recommend that you read the story, they leave important little things out or hide them in the illustrations. If you haven't read the story you won't catch on to them :\
I watched this because I have an essay due tomorrow, but this helped me because when we discussed and read this, they knew nothing and I was right all along...
