Hey Doodlers! Im so excited to share with you that I've created an advanced class for Doodly whiteboard animators! 🔥🔥🔥I show you all of my best workarounds to make your Doodles really come to life. Check it out at www.jennjager.com.
@@peterquynhle I did and then Upgraded to Enterprise edition promising even more, and then found a HEAP of hidden fees for things i needed, feels like Doodly is a huge cash grab to me, pretty dissapointed
Having tried both of these, in my opinion nothing beats the customizability that comes with adobe after effects + illustrator for whiteboard videos. I have a few videos on my channel of my whiteboard videos. I use a drawing tablet to make my illustrations in illustrator using simple strokes and use the trim paths in after effects to animate them. You can pretty much do anything, any style.
I created a whiteboard animation for a client and ended up buying both Videoscribe and Doodly (commercial use versions). In the end, I created it in videoscribe- after finding a work around for custom paths using an SVG technique. However- I had so many problems with things “moving out of place” as well as exporting glitches, that I would NOT recommend videoscribe for making a video with lots of custom artwork. I also had to do the audio completely separate. Next time, I’ll attempt to use Doodly- but may have to move to after effects or something more advanced.
@@JennJager, Jeremy: I'm using Videoscribe for ilustrating my talks instead of slides at IT conferences, and it's possible that soon I'll be making RU-vid videos with it. I admit it has its quirks which I would very much like to go away, the most annoying being the default values for drawing time and transitions, and that the camera zooms in by default. I would like to have the option to customize the defaults at the beginning of my work with the video, so that I don't have to set things manually for each objects, but also that the default actions are the ones I want. But apart from that I'm pretty happy with Videoscribe. Two tricks that may help you: 1. For sound recording I use Audacity. It comes with a ton of options and it's free. This way I can edit the sound, turn it into MP3 and import in Videoscribe then. 2. The drawing hand follows lines specified in the SVG file of the object. So even though Videoscribe does not allow to change the way the object is drawn, we can edit the SVG file in another program (e.g. Inkspace) and with this tell Videoscribe how to draw it. It's tedious, though, and requires some graphic skills (which I don't have). Instead, if I really want to have an object drawn in a certain way, I cut it into a few parts and display them in Videoscribe one after another exactly in the places where they were in the original drawing. This way I make the hand to first draw the first part, then the second, and so on. Not as subtle as making the hand follow actual lines of the drawing, but good enough for me :)
As a fist-time comparison, it is very informative, thank you. However, perhaps the comparison should be made by crafting the same video using the two different platforms and see the end result. For starters, the way you animated your text makes it look rather 'unnatural' and 'skippy'. This is usually solved by dedicating more time to testing different animation times until the writing looks more 'natural. For example, a sentence animated in 1 second will look really bad... just a hand with a marker and all of a sudden a string of words just show. Conversely, one word animated in 8 seconds will be more like a slow-motion of a hand writing it. It takes a little trial and error to fine tune both the animation and the transition times to make the animation look smooth. For images, as one gets more experienced, there are other ways to create your own and animate your own without necessarily relying on what's on videoscribe's library. One way is to learn how to make SVG files using Inkscape (free), for example, that process is not at all very complicated and it pays off to learn how to create SVGs with an animation path that will make them look incredibly natural when animated. That, combined with the ability to use your own hand (and writing tool) is a feature that is rather nice in Videoscribe. Regarding music, you don't have to use VideoScribe's music library, which I agree still needs some work. However, you can import your own MP3 files. Depending on what level of work one is planning, just the scribe (regardless of the tool used to make it) may not be enough. I usually combine the video produced with VideoScribe with other elements, as part of a final video production. The initial videoscribe video can sometimes be further edited when incorporated into a larger project. I guess the point is that with experience using it, every platform will deliver great results. It definitely beats having to do the writing on a white board, having a good camera to film it, and then countless hours of video editing. Having a tool that allows a relatively low-cost production of a white animation video is great. While videos made with Apple Motion, or any other video producing suites look great, the power of combining whiteboard animation with imagery seems to enhance the impact on the viewer, and it seems to help them remember more of the information when presented like that. Here is an example of a video I made with VideoScribe, when the platform didn't have many of the tools it now has. It shows two different 'custom' hands and painting tools. The music was and MP3 made using Garageband. The final video rendered using Camtasia only to add title frames ant the beginning and the end. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9BRZS2XmImM.html
Wow , where did you learn to be so diplomatic , I've never come across someone with such smooth diplomacy skills, bravo ... and thanks for the video.. Loved it.
Thank you, Jenn! What I do like very much in Video scribe is, that I can import my own illustrations as svg files. That makes my videos really individuell !
For some reason I think Doodly is more appealing, I like the variety of surface types (blackboard, glass, etc) and the custom rendering of an image. I need the tool to explain concepts that use a lot of Flow charts and tree view structures, I think this type of video can be quite captivating and help explain complicated concepts that will just "click" with potential customers.
I tried both and my preference is Doodly. Videoscribe is not as intuitive and is very difficult to synch voice to animation. It always ran out of synch. I did my first video 2.5 minutes long in 5 hours and it took the same time with VideoScribe with a 45 seconds video. The problem is just getting things to synched and aligned.
Hi Jenn, I have decided to get Videoscribe as I think both Doodly and Videoscribe share most of the features with some difference. What I like about Videoscribe is that its pricing range seems to be better than Doodly. Anyway, your tutorial proved to be very helpful to me in finalizing what to settle on. Thank you once again.
Thanks Jenn, Great job! I have a free trial right now of Videoscribe and I mostly like it so far. You just explained camera position and gave me info on the timings of things... to me a lot quicker than i was going to figure it out from reading the support documents. So thank you!
Great video but Doodly wins hands down especially based on the price. The camera pan is good on Videoscribe but for nearly $600 less, Doodly's is the better option IMO.
Bill Costello Your the best instructor ever. I like how you try different things and explain your thinking as you go. This helps retention of material. Also, tell your husband he is a lucky guy. Will definitely look for more of your videos.
Hello Jenn! Thanks for the video! I watched it a couple of months ago and decided starting using VideoScribe. And now...I LOVE it! I have even created my own channel with motivation videos thanks to you. Many many thanks!!!😊😘😀😘👍😀p.s. I am from Poland💕
Thanks for featuring us in your review Jenn! It’s great to hear your feedback and we’ve shared your video with our product team as we’re always keen to improve. One of the things we know we need to work on is making the features you might need easier to find. For instance you can draw elements as quickly as 0.1 seconds to make a faster sequence, you can publish your videos even in a free trial, and we have lots of different background options and hands to choose from! We’re working on signposting these better. If you or your subscribers ever have questions about using VideoScribe please do let us know here: help.sparkol.com/support/tickets/new. Or check out our instant answers page here: help.videoscribe.co/support/solutions Thanks again, the VideoScribe Team 😊
Hey man I currently own an annual subscription from you guys and I have some random scribes so far I have generally loved it and eager to continue my subscription in the coming years too; my question is I was browsing the internet for tutorials and a guy was saying the animation time to animate video ratio is something like one hour's work for one minute of animated video, and if I personally am the kind of guy who wants to upload 3-4 eleven minute book reviews every day on the platform that would be around 45 minutes of animated video and at that ratio it's 45 hours of work in a single day (which is impossible the maximum hours of work can be 16) and I understand the time will fall as I grow more skilled, but my question to you, since you are the devs is that is there some particular style of animation in your software that could drastically reduce the time needed to produce a video, as in a way to make 40 minutes of animated video in 3-4 hours using some tricks and workarounds. Thanks in advance
@@oatilezwane7937 We don't have an Android App. Take a look at our instant answer which explains more about this, help.videoscribe.co/support/solutions/articles/11000072069-videoscribe-is-not-available-for-android
Great job. Very unbiased and just what I needed to see some of the options available. Had not heard of Doodly and I now have another platform to consider. Thanks.
Just a mention, maybe it's a new feature, but if you click on Letter menu name text, there is a Plus symbol lower right corner that appears and will enable font uploads also allows you to give them custom names which I liked.
Amazing comparisons!! I really took my time to decide on which of them I should go for. I choose videoscribe because of the drawings and illustrations that makes the drawing come more to life but it's way too expensive. $950 For lifetime??? I prefer using it to purchase a laptop or a camera for my future RU-vid animations😜😜 so I went for Doodly and I'm okay using it without the illustrations. thank you
Hey! Videoscribe does let you export the watermarked version. You just have to wait when the Rendering pop-up window comes up and not click on the link that would take you to pricing. It takes time to export, about 2-5 mins., but it does provide the feature :) :)
Awesome vid! You’re a great presenter. Would you do a tutorial on how you created that apple motion video? I’d watch that for sure. I just bought doodly but throwing up in my mouth at the upsell signup process. The ‘one time offers’ are just too much, and I think I’ll ask for a refund because most of the images are locked behind in-app purchases.
Thought I was the only one feeling like I got suckered into the'one-time' offer... If you want colour, it's an extra purchase...if you want emotions, its an extra purchase... Thank God I'm still within my 30 days window
hi Jenn, nice to meet you, my name is wise from Indonesia I saw in the video you use Videoscribe on a Macbook. there are some that I ask jenn,: 1. I have tried to install Videoscibe and Explaindio on my macbook and Imac Os catalina why it doesn't work in open? 2. Which one is good from Softwhere Videoscribe with Explaindio. thanks Jenn.
Great job with an informative non-bias comparison. Apple motion looked fantastic, no offense to the other two programs they have a place in the market for sure. After googling Motion and discovering that it is part of the pro apps bundle for $200.00 makes me very interested in getting a new IPAD pro with the M1. Speculation is that it will be able to use the full pro bundle. I'm not even a creator....Yet!
It will only be a short time until Doodly increases the price to the norm, they only have this price in an attempt to get support. Also, the resizing of fonts is not the fault of the software it is because you are not using vector font. Notice the the vector images beside the "5" enlarge quite impressively...because they are vector graphics.
Thanks so much for this. VERY WELL done! We use Doodly and are considering adding Videoscribe to the mix. Agree totally with your Doodly assessment so that gives us confidence.
At 7:33 ⇨ 7.56 ... "This next icon here is to change the pause time..." But just watch out for the other thing it does - which is to change your hair styling! You might need to use the "continuity" icon just to check that. 😄😄
Hi I'm going to use doodly or videoscribe but I wanna write in my local Language Myanmar.. like you said Videoscribe might be better here , but I'm preferring Doodly in my mind,, Is it possible to put local Language in doodly now ( after 2 years improvement ) ? And are you still using doodly?
Well where do I start Jenn. I like your voice better than others that's for sure. You should hire me for narration, until I have a great voice for that stuff I'm not sure doodly compares in terms of price at all, at least for the minimalist $50 package. Versus $800. But you could I guess compare the $125 per year subscription or whatever that amount was. I think the explainer video will go out, it's catchy, but I think you can get bored pretty quickly if it's not presented in a timely manner. I think it could fit in a plethora of multimedia somehow. I do find it intriguing when I watch it in a presentation. Mainly it's obviously the visual learning aspect rather than someone just talking. Also rather than just looking at text presentation for example. Certainly better than just listening to audio even though you're staring at a RU-vid screen
Wonderful reviews of Doodly and Videoscribe. When you are talking about price, you probably should look at the price for commercial use as well as the price for personal use. Videoscribe charges an additional fee for commercial use. I don't know what Videoscribe charges for commercial use of their product. Explaindio is another platform that produces videos. It is somewhat similar to Doodly and Videoscribe.
Hi Jenn Thanks so much for your video. It was so clear. I really liked you taking us through the steps you took to improve the output bit by bit. Now subscribed :-)
What is the best whiteboard video software out there? I am ideally looking for something that has a hige library of free-to-use assets, something that is easy to use (beginner level), is all-in-one (i.e. lets me add voice-over, music, etc), allows me to post to RU-vid, FB, etc. without getting striked or taken down for any reason, and lets me put my own previously recorded videos/pictures into the project.
Doodley says cancel at any time but it costs just as much as video scribe. I didn't find a cancel at any time with VS. Ill have to check into that. I don't want a long term commitment. Just need an informational/instructional video for my business.
Hi Jenn. Very helpful... I watched both Doodly videos and this one. Still not sure which way to go... my biggest concern is the time commitment to learn how to use the products, when I am already spinning plates. I don't like the default option of slide show videos (this is course content, not marketing), but I just don't know if i will be able to put in the time to create quality animated videos. Any thoughts on learning curve/implementation time (I got the "no 60 second videos" point!) would be appreciated. Thanks.
Im a physics teacher. Im looking for the best way to represent non standard scientific symbols (setting up equations, including calculus symbols, callouts, etc). What software would work best for this?
Thank you for the video. It helped me decide. I went with Doodly for now, but i am thinking long term to also try Videoscribe. As an amateur it took me about 40 hours of work for my first 5 min video, but I can only get better:)))
Great info on the comparison of the two doodle products. Enjoyed your other video on Toonly also. I have subscribed and will definitely start going through your other videos. Thank you!
Where do you see that the $67 doesn't give you all animations and that there is an upgrade price? As of now (Aug 2020) it says on their site: "You’ll pay $67 one time, and one time only and you’ll get full access to Doodly, without any restrictions at all."
I am interested in creating an anatomical illustration as in simplistic sketch drawings. It then needs to allow pathways to be created like a train moving. Then at the “station” to light up the area or dot. Then let it pause as there is a descriptive audio. Then to another point. Now finally to add like a magnifying glass to the area in discussion. How can this be done easily, less time consuming, and not expensive. I’m s teacher do the budget is always an issue. One last point, if the animations can be rotated or superimposed with a radiology image and then then removed, that would be a big plus. Thank you so much.
Thanks Jen , you are a5o likeable :-) ... Is it doable to do whiteboard animation using a free program like GOOGLE SLIDES? or are the $67 for Dooly worth it?
Hi Jenn. May I ask... Who make voice over on this video ?? Are you ordering someone relatives to fill it or we can order VO by online ? I'm just currious 🥺 Because animation without VO is like boring.
It must be noted that the export tool in Doodly takes hours and hours. I am not familiar with the other software so I can't speak to how Videoscribe compares. But in any complete review, this comparison would be useful.
What are you buying Lewis ? kindly share as i am also in the middle of the decision to buy between doodly and videoscribe? my preference is variety and professionality
Hi Jenn, Thank you very much for the video. You did a great job! I really love the way you explained everything. I have become a fan of yours. Thanks for giving us such wonderful information unbiasedly
Thanks for your honest review, I like the way you explain things, very clear and honest. Im going to get videoscribe but sadly you dont have aff link to buy from ^^
Wow u are very knowledgeable. Are u a designer or marketer? I mean did u go to college for any of those 2? Or just learned thru experience and resources online?
you are a great reviewer. Absolute neutrality and fairness. I love you and your cheerful face unlike some reviewers who talk like government public prosecutors... hahahaha
Very helpful video. I draw my own graphics for almost all of my instruction videos. It sounds like doodly is the better option for me, correct? I want to import diagrams and have the system redraw them for me.
Thank you so much for your comparison video. You have covered almost all the main points in your video. Now I have a clear picture about these 2 whiteboard softwares. Once again Thank you. Can you pls do a review on the Doodke maker ? And can you pls suggest me a best whiteboard software based on your experience & knowledge ? ( I am planning to create some educational videos or informative videos on diseases & its treatments, but I am not a professional in video editing & all. So pls help me on which software to choose to have somany viewers )
Hello! Thank you Jenn for your videos, I am learning tons!, My objective is create videos for teaching Spanish and Math, what would you recommend as far as equipment and software?, I saw your video on Final Cut and it seems like a Mac would be a good editor (thinking of doing like you are doing, a combo of me talking and white board showing the formulas) If you have time to please drop me a line with suggestions, I would really appreciate it ! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL ! Thank you and all the best :)
Hi , I bought Doodly clicking on your link ..... Your Welcome :) . I Bought an upsell aswell of 97$ PressPlay and i think i made a mistake there . Can you review that product for me please ? Keep up the Good work !
Hello Jenn, thanks for making videos, it’s really helpful for us like budding freelancers, I’m confused to buy toonly or doodly since both of these software’s are giving options. Could you please do a companrison video or a toonly video? Hope you will notice this message. Lots of love 💓
when I draw a object on upper layer, the Doodly will be earse automatically. How can I disable this function? How can I draw uppoer layer without earser?
Hi, Jenn do you know anything about how to add animation Doodly to Wondershare filmora 9? I have a project I started, and my finishing touch is to add a story animation character with voice-over? I know they have their own animation.
I am working for a Chinese company which wants to use a whiteboard animation. VideoScribe cannot manage Chinese fonts. They have posted a workaround to insert Chinese text using Inkspace. That includes the text. But, when the hand writes the text it does not follow the rules of the stroke order in Chinese writing. That put off the Chinese client after the first second of the video. I found a way to import the characters as a video by using a web site which draws each single character, input each character as a video and have a hand move over it to give the writing effect and in the correct order. The drawback? One sentence took me about 45 minutes. At the end I had to decline the job. Nowadays developing software without thinking globally, and in particular about China, is limiting the scope of the business big time. Sorry VideoScribe... you have to think that you operate in a global market, not the backyard one.
Hello, thanks for the video. What about Toonly vs Doodly. What do you recommend an animated with toons, or with hand writing? Which one calls the attention the most in your experience? Thanks.
I think Videoscribe is a good product, but one thing I think is incredibly misleading is that they have an alert on ribboned images which says "You require premium to access these images" then if you get premium, you gain access to them, but are then told that you have to pay extra for each image. That really annoyed me about the product and is really cheeky on their behalf. Also that $800 price tag is still there and is definitely taking the piss.
Hi, Jen! I'm learning to use Videoscribe and it's not as easy as they say in the tutorials. On your video you say there is a check button on the right handside corner which you can click if you want to get rid of the camera zooming in at the end of each step. Well, there isn't such a button in my trial version. I can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.
Is their any Software for whiteboard animation for explaining Geometry (Maths) Solution???????? which images of Geometrical Tools (compass, scale, protractor, set square etc.)
Question: With the Doodly software, can you import your own image files (png, jpg or whatnot)??? ...OR.... do they FORCE you to buy their extra image packages? Saying you get the software for Doodly for $67, if you can't add your own images or your forced to buy extras from them is a bit deceiving. THANKS!!
You've done so nice, please tell us about the export timings. Videoscribe is taking 10 times and even more than video length. If I'm exporting half-hour video with voiceover it took me 7 hours approx.
