That was slick. Has the duplicator paid for itself with that job or others? Just wonder that about some tools from time to time as I am only a hobbyist, not a pro.
Hey B Box...The duplicator attachment almost paid for itself on that one job. I already had the lathe. Some 7' oak columns on a mantlepiece paid for it awhile back.
I just received my duplicator and the grinder setup. The instructions are brutal! Do you have a video on the installation of the Viel Duplicator? I mean, it comes in two boxes with plastic bags, no tags, and you need to download the manual which really isn't any help. It looks well made, and quite durable, I'm just not sure how to install it. My lathe has a 14" swing, so it says you need shims. Which shims? There are these red rectangular tubes with hole in the centre of it, as well as other various shims, but no indication to which ones you need for a 14" swing. Any help would be appreciated.
Extra ordinary work bro. I am from India. I like your work setup unit. How much Cost of this machine ? Can you help me to make this type of machine. If it is possible to give me close photo graph, send me please. Thanks a lot to share this video.
I am also using the Viel duplicator, I am turning ribbon mahogany balusters I am finding the turnings to be rough and I am getting chip-out do you have any suggestions? my angle grander is a delwalt 11000 RPM what speed should my lathe be turning at ? slow or the fastest I can go ?
Lathe was running slow, about 800 rpm. Take a slow shallow cut on your final passes. Don't let work-piece wobble or flagellate. Use a steady rest if needed. The poplar I turned cleaned up with a little moderate sanding.
Thanks, I am now running the lathe running around 600rmp's now, it does seem to help some. the balusters im running now are 3 3/8, there is no wobble and the steady rest is not really needed for those, I did use it for the smaller ones, I am almost wondering if the grinder height is the problem ? when you set your cutters ( 5 blade wheel for grinder) where on the wood do they hit ? mid way of the work or top half or lower half ?
