My farm runs along an old RR. Once the thing was removed the county remove the chert , the rock used for RR tracks. Every godawful piece of steel was brought to the road in front of my place. I used 4 wheel drive pickups with class E tires. For years at least once a week we'd drive along and pick up 100 pieces of steel, mainly spikes. Back then you couldn't get a guarantee on that type of tire so we had to eat the cost of those tires. A new set were very expensive so we spent a fortune on tires. We'd buy a new set and sometimes replace it set in 3 months. We stood in the back of the pickup and gather 100 pieces of metal in 6 miles and that many coming back. We did it for years. It finally made a difference but after ruining over 50 tires I quit counting. For a while we had a county dump we could haul them to but I it was closed after a $150,,000 dozer that was destroyed because they never changed the air filter, real geniuses. We had hundreds of tires piled up and eventually burned most of them before it became illegal. We had huge piles of iron so we just begun throwing the stuff back to the old track. I've ruined tractor tires that cost thousands of dollars. I hate that road to this day but don't have a Huey to avoid it.

I got a fun bone related story. So my family owns a lot of forests. In that forest there’s a abandoned houses, junk dumps, streams etc. well we have a high deer population on are land and bears have been seen on the land. Well one day me and my brother both went out into the woods. Note: this was before bears known to be on the land. Well me and him were exploring trying to find anything cool, when I slept and fell into a small gully. When I got up I looked around and I saw a deer skull, then another one and then another one, there was a about 20-30 deer and other animal bones and skulls, ranging from overgrown bones to brand new bones with pieces of tissue still on them. So obviously me and my bother got the hell out of there. If anyone knows if bears do this or maybe a illegal hunter was dumping it there? Please I would to love to find out.
