He is a modern renaissance man of the highest order: actor, musician, linguist, poet, author, painter, photographer, and he does all these things with impressive competency. A man for all ages and model human being.
I adored him as aragorn, king of gondor. But the more i found out about the real person behind him, the more i was just astonished of how about intelligent, soulfull, calm and skillfull this person is in every way of what he does. Hes really a special actor and human beeing. I dont wanna say hes a better person than other people, but hes just a personality who many can really learn a lot from. I really just enjoy to see him in of what hes doing. I enjoy that hes not a person for sale (hollywood e.g.) or doing roles he maybe would'nt fit in. Hes a person which stands behind everything of what he does, (sorry, german metapher, i dont know if thats existing in english) and that is just seldom in the world today. I wish the best for him and people like him and their art and i really cant say enough of how this person is a real-life aragorn for many human beeings. Thank you viggo for beeing a real good idol, not just in actor ways.
I really enjoy listening to this guy talk. He makes a lot of sense and he seems pretty down to earth for a guy who was in Lord of The Rings and became incredibly famous.
windyeye I can confirm that he's an amazingly humble, kind-hearted guy. A couple of my sisters-in-law attended high school with him in Watertown, NY and have only wonderful things to say / stories to share about him. Oddly, I went to high school with Vincent Cassel in France about ten years later, and those two have collaborated on a few films together (Eastern Promises is the most well-known among them.) Anyway, Viggo never ceases to blow my mind with his seemingly endless artistic / linguistic talents *and* humility - he's definitely *not* a typical materialistic Hollywood narcissist, spends most of his current life in Spain (although he's recently devoted a lot of time to caring for his terminally ill father back in Watertown - the least pretentious, most modest little American city you could possibly imagine), and is truly one-of-a-kind. Ariadna Gil is the luckiest girl in the galaxy !
it's a pleasure to listen to someone that articulate ... he is a thousand times more handsome when he opens his mouth...calm, mellow, down to earth...his inner beauty makes him shine
Viggo Mortensen is one of my all time favorite actors. I really wish I could see him more in films, but it is understandable that he wants to do what he loves and it is much more than acting.
He is seriously my most favorite person. Every answer he gives is meaningful and honest. I love his stance on everyone being an artist in their own ways and how you never really lose that childlike nature that goes along with creating something beautiful. Love him.
''Kids if they wanna draw they draw, if they wanna sing they sing, if they wanna pretend that their the lone ranger or Aragon or an elf or an monster they just do it, they wont think about it''- Viggo, P.s I luv the Aragon part
So why did everybody give Michael Jackson a hard time when he talked of loving childhood and not growing up. Actually most really creative people need to maintain that strong link to childhood.
@@fucheduck LOL why are u replying to a five year old comment 😭😭😭 besides WHO CARES I can’t believe you took your time to criticize a comment that’s so old LMFAOOO
What Viggo said about violence in film is very wise. Most action movies have scenes with countless casualties without a second thought and use dead bodies as a prop and gore as a gag; Eastern promises was very shocking in the violence department, but it was not taken lightly.
He is one of the few actors that I will listen to without thinking they are a self serving pratt. meaning, he is such a great actor that portraying humility and strong opinions at the same time is a cinch ...or, he really is that humble.
This is THE smoothest cat in Hollywood! A humble spirit is so difficult to come by! Being a complete polyglot who has absolutely no accent when he speaks in the languages that he does, he amazes me! I wish he gave an acting class in NY, because I'd be one of the first in line.
It is absolutely insance when you see him here and think he is the man who plays the intense roles of Aragorn and Everett Hitch. Genius actor. Truly underrated.
Oh my God! This is probably the most beautiful I've seen Viggo in! (Aside from being Aragorn of course) He literally looks like a real life prince! Swoooooonnnn
I have a lot of respect for this guy because he's keeping it real and is genuine despite the fact that he has became well known. Especially when in todays media and industry everything has become superficial and mechanical.
what a genuine individual and profound role model : not often do you learn new meaning from your childhood hero both on and off screen to such a level as viggo has done for me as I have grown . thank you for being you and thank you for inspiring all ages to be themselves and pursue passion and well being over slipping into categorized tunnels. to me , viggo’s beautiful portrayal of Tolkien’s aragorn echoes into his kind heartedness in real life; a character/ actor connection that I will always learn from and be thankful for; thank you viggo
I was very impressed by his performance in 'The Road', it was such an intense and harrowing film which must have been incredibly mentally exhausting for him.
This man is one of my new favourite actors. I love what he says about not categorizing art, and that art is "having to do with paying attention." He's nailed it.
Very truthful interview.. seems like he's not that hypnotized like everybody else in the world. TIME magazine seem to have cut some parts in which he might have revealed his true self and inner thoughts.
They remained there until Mortensen was eleven, when his parents divorced. With his mother he returned to New York, where he spent the rest of his childhood, graduating from Watertown High School in Watertown, New York.He then attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, earning a degree in Spanish Studies and Politics in 1980.
Man, this guy is just simply amazing. Genius, in so many ways... And I love when he brought up the people that go "over the line" and think they're in a "relationship" with him lol. Just how he said he worries about them (and himself lol!) was sweet... And "Germans are people too" rofl!
thanx for saying that we germans are people, too. i got a real chill when he said that and looked directly into the camera! viggo, you're the best actor i know!!!
I want to see a movie with him, Mads Mikkelsen, Javier Bardem and probably add in my favorite actress, Emily Blunt. They are just, too fucking talented and skillful.
Just watched "A history of Violence" and loved it. You are a master of your art and wise beyond your years. Hope you come back to New Zealand soon. We love you down here! I especially find your reason for choosing violent roles insightful. By not fictionalising or sensationalising violence you go against the grain of Hollywood and represent the horrific reality, meaningless core and empty soul of violence . Peace to you brother
He's was born nyc to an american mother and danish father and then moved to venezuela with his parents and was raised in argentina until 11. he then moved to denmark with his father when his parents got divorced but eventually moved back to ny with his father and graduted high school there.
i can no longer see......a friend is typing this for me becuz im blinded by the majesty and awesomeness that is viggo mortensen. He and sharlto copley are almost alike, they are incredible unbelievably amazing actors and the most important similarity......THEY NEED TO BE IN MORE THINGS IMMEDIATELY
The shoe thing! His from Denmark. Its considered rude in Denmark, Sweden and Norway to go into houses with shoes, and its just messy and dirty! I believe that's why his shoe's are off! Its just how we do things over here :p
Germans are poeple too! VIGGO!!! This is so Viggo! I am a german maiden so... Well, he IS right about that! And I am NOT ashamed! I found it very pleasing that he picked Germany for his first example of poeple who are flattering him/his work etc. Haha!
