This video is from 2012. Check out our latest Pools Inc installation at our new house (2020). • Latham Corinthian 16 f...
We live in Elkhorn, Nebraska and had a one acre heavily treed lot. Over the last five years, mother nature took our beautiful elm trees (Dutch elm disease). A pool had been considered in the past, but we werent going to cut down trees for it. Thanks Mother Nature (I guess!)
The decision to put in a FIBERGLASS pool came after much research into each type of inground pool available - concrete, liner, or fiberglass. Each has its pros and cons. Fiberglass met all of our long term and short term needs.
Surprisingly, for Nebraska, there were many pool builders to choose from. After thoroughly looking at each website, online reviews, and especially their Better Business Bureau reviews, we decided to go with Pools Inc in Omaha. Not only do they specialize in fiberglass pools, the owner had worked as an installer for another pool company before he opened his own business. Experience. INSTALLATION experience. That is the key to a trouble-free pool. All fiberglass pool brands have awesome warranties, so, the problems that could arise are mostly likely issues that could can been avoided during installation.
We look forward to having family, friends, neighbors, and their dogs are welcome to come over and enjoy the pool! I hope we also get an occasional duck or goose. Hopefully no snakes! I could do without the giant wolf spiders that get stuck in filter basket. I guess cleaning that out will always be Bob's job.
The pool manufacturer we chose is Viking and the shape we chose is a freeform design called the Caribbean. You can check out their website - www.vikingpools... Some extra features that we went with are a saline filtration systems, we opted for a heater so that we can enjoy the pool on warm days in April, May, and October. We upgraded the color to "Persian" (it has some glitter in it.) We also added a cascade waterfall and four jets (one on each corner.) We also added extra concrete all around (the pool package comes with 4' all around) and had it stained and texture stamped.
If you have any questions regarding our 'customer experience' with the whole installation process, feel free to email me. If your questions are technical, please contact Rich Mahacek at Pools Inc in Omaha! www.poolsincoma...

In response to GeeMoney and mattfisher506 regarding costs (to the best of my recollection) The Viking pool was $39,000. Includes transport from TX manufacturer, white or lite blue pool color, crane, ground-prep, electrical work, permit pulling, pump, 4' of plain concrete all the way around, fill, stainless hand rail. The pool upgrades in this video are the custom turquoise pool color, which was an extra $1800. 4 deck fountains - $500 ea. Cascade fountain - $800 (?) (shown in video...Jeau floats through it trying to get his ball) Saline filtering system (cant remember how much this was...$1000-$2000 would be my best guess). Extra concrete - 8' around + extra on the shallow end - $4,000. Colored and stamping were extra. (cant remember cost...maybe $1 per ft for color and $1 per ft for stamping?) Pool heater - $2000 (?). Winter cover - $1,800. The retaining walls? Hard to estimate! We bought the bricks at Menards and my husband had some guys from his plant do the install. Probably DIY cost of $4,000. Aluminum 6' fence - panels purchased online and installed by my husband's workers - $5,000. Extra deck - $5,000. Landscaping - done by my husband and me, so hard to estimate. 10 tons of river rock and 100 grasses, bushes, trees, vines, and flowers. - $2000? Yes, I spent more time fiddling around with all my plants than I did swimming!

That deep end looks like it's only about 7ft.WHY if you are paying that money choose another pool shape, The fiberglass pools come in 9-10 ft depths.IDK

Thanks for posting the video and don't listen to the haters. My wife and I are in the market for a pool and found your video really helpful! Now that it's been a while, can you comment on anything you would've done differently or would recommend to someone like myself (that wasn't covered in your initial tips in the beginning of the video)? Thanks again!

Peter, we still love everything about it. But, there are two things we would probably reconsider if we had it to do over. 1) The shape. Visually, it's cool and love it. But, for practical purposes, the deep end just isnt very wide. Probably would go with something that is wider. 2) Would get the automatic cover (though, it was an addl $9000) Lots of trees create lots of junk in the water every day. Would be so nice to just close the cover during storms and at night.

We bought a house in Upstate NY with a inground 36x18 pool (has liner) the liner had lasted over 20years We replaced it. To replace the liner with install and fill with water,new pump,safety cover it ran us about $7,000. The pool company said the pool we have (which he said is top of the line in that category) would run $36,000. included the 4'concrete and chain link style fence around it. What did this entire install cost including all the retaining walls? I just cant imagine.
@noellebuscher6510
@noellebuscher6510 8 лет назад
A definite advantage to a liner pool is that you can get a larger pool. Fiberglass is limited to what can fit on the back of a flatbed semi. I believe the largest fiberglass pool size is 20' x 40'. We wanted fiberglass, though, for durability. We have dogs that are regularly in and out. Liner pools cant stand up to heavy usage like that. Everyone we know who has a liner pool has had to replace their liner in the first five years.

Pools nowadays cost twice as much for the same pool that was built 25 years ago.80 to 100,000 dollars for a decent pool now.Rediculous

There are no interlocking bricks. There is a layer of heavy gauge wire mesh that the concrete was poured over. Maybe that's what youre referring to? I just looked at the video. Yes, the wire mesh looks like bricks :)

How is the concrete around your pool, any settling? I installed one in 2001 and backfield with sand...waited almost a year to pour concrete. ( I have one small crack, not by pool edge though) was the stamped concrete slippery when wet?
@noellebuscher6510
@noellebuscher6510 6 лет назад
The Locust - there was some settling on the side where we had built it up and put in the retaining wall. It was mudjacked about two years ago. Full disclosure that my husband did all the dirt work and wall building. He has the right equipment but had never done a project like this before. So it probably needed to be packed a bit more. The slumping was away from the pool edge, so did not affect the concrete edge. No cracks. Just sloping. But we wanted to address the problem before it got worse.

Im thinking of getting one like tomorrow, and my color choice is the same, i was wondering if your pool ever looks green with that color (persian I believe). I would like it to look turquoise mostly, and that is what it looks like in the booklet they gave me. But i think it would be wise to ask direct owners of that color pool, how does it look mostly? Im in ND by the way, so I understand the cold cycle of frost.
@noellebuscher6510
@noellebuscher6510 6 лет назад
Svetik, It does not look green at all. We moved last month to an acreage and are going to be putting in the exact same pool! Same shape. Same color. My husband and I hardly ever swam...maybe twice a summer. I just like looking at it! It's kind of my pond in my garden oasis. Time to start over...and make a new video! LOL :)

Do you have to clean it
@Noelle1000
@Noelle1000 2 года назад
Yes, we used an automated robot. A hand vacuum. A hand skimmer for the surface. And emptied the basket daily. Though, this pool was installed with a ton of mature trees around it, so our maintenance was probably more than the average pool would need. The saline system required almost zero futzing around with chemicals. Dump a few bags of salt in every now and then. Done.

@noellebuscher6510
@noellebuscher6510 7 лет назад
KC, this was almost five years ago...the cost of the pool is dependent upon the size that you choose. I think ours was one of the biggest fiberglass available (the max is 40' long...it has to fit on a truck. Ours is 18x40). The base package was $39000. That included pool, transport, 4' of concrete, permits, and installation. We added an upgraded color, fountains, heater, extra concrete (stamped and colored), retaining walls, extra deck, landscaping, and a fence. The total cost was probably closer to $70k complete. Youre welcome to come see it. Rich from Pools Inc is just awesome. He opens and closes our pool every year. If we have any problems, he is always here the same day to take care of it.
@noellebuscher6510

If we had it to do over, we'd make two changes. 1) We'd get the automatic cover (lots of trees!)($9,000). But, they needed to lay the tracks in the concrete, so the decision had to be made up front. 2) We'd probably get a more traditional rectangle shape. We love the look of the freeform, but, the reality is that the deep end just isnt very wide.
@redfailhawk
@redfailhawk 4 года назад
For the cover they have, we just dropped 3k into one almost identical here (SC). I love it as I have a blind dog and she isn’t at risk in winter anymore. I’d recommend getting one you can walk on safely, just because it’s a valuable item. They are expensive but we just finished our first year of the new cover and opening the pool was a fast ordeal because it worked so well. It’s also an expense you can save for and add later like we did.

Concrete pools in Nebraska are prone to cracking due to the freeze/thaw cycles. Plus, our soil is mostly clay and that would have increased the chances of that happening. We did our homework and fiberglass was the right choice for us.

Don't get me wrong, it's a VERY nice pool. Beautiful, in fact. I'm just suffering sticker shock. I never realized how much an in-ground pool costs. I'm guessing materials are probably a fair bit higher in Nebraska than Ohio (where I'm from).
@noellebuscher6510
@noellebuscher6510 8 лет назад
If someone just wanted the bare bones package, that includes the pool, installation, transportation, and 4' of concrete. That cost would have been a flat $39,000. You can get an inground pool with a vinyl liner for much cheaper. We chose fiberglass for durability and to save money in the long run.

uh, that cabin will have maintenance (and depending on where you live, both will add/have property taxes too); and when it gets cold, their won't be a creek heater for that creek water by that cabin; either option will have overhead/maintenance costs; pool is right there in the back yard; you can argue pros and cons of both all day long

jack of all trades is a bad term. In the home building world, a jack of all trades is a master of nothing. I would rather people do what I do and sub out the pros in areas we dont do like mechanical, plumbing, electrical, etc, That way you have the masters of each segment doing their best. Not a guy can do everything but the work subpar.

I cannot understand why people spend so much money on such small, crappy pools. If you haggle with the manufacturer and installer, you can get a 20x40 inground with a 12 foot deep end for the same price, or cheaper than what we just watched. In 2004 I priced a 20x40 In ground, with an automatic cover for just under 13 grand. Backhoe guy wanted $600 for the dig, the rest was up to me.

You’re comparing apples and oranges here. Your DIY liner pool vs a professionally installed fiberglass pool. Did your DIY quote include concrete work? Heater? Saline? Fountains? Automatic pool cleaner? Winter cover? It all adds up. To each, his own. We are happy with it and are ready to do it again at our new house. Same pool. Same pool company. Same result. Satisfied customers and a beautiful pool that is almost maintenance-free.
