The only reason this show didn't get an emmy is because its sponsored by History channel....if it would've been sponsored by HBO, AMC or CBS then it would've won countless Emmys....HBO, AMC etc have stronger influence than History Channel
Björn was the epitome of a 1st born. Arrogant, self-reliant, and proud...he sure did lose to a far weaker warrior/brother who was much smarter. (Thor and Loki)
Ragnar seems to instinctively know what all his sons think of him: Bjorn is no longer in awe of him; Sigurd resents him; Hvitserk is agitated by him; Ivar admires him without question; Ubbe is conflicted but ultimately relieved that he has returned.
@@nickcoker4293 Except for Ubbe, who said he hoped he never returns, as well as Hvistverg and Sigurd who claimed they'd kill him yet didn't do a thing.
In that case he's too similar to Ragnar. If you look at some scenes, Ragnar does a very similar thing. Not the same, because their body language is quite different, but very much similar.
I love how it takes only minutes for everyone to remember why Ragnar is king. I also love how they bring Bjorn into the scene. For 5 minutes no one steps up to Ragnar then Bjorn shows up and instantly shows what kind of man Ragnar was looking for in the crowd.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Ragnar showed that he was still the forceful man he had been from the beginning, and Bjorn showed how alike they were. He also put his sons in their places with just one scene. Scared Hvitsrk, touched on Ivar, and intimidated Sigurd and Ubbe.
@@shahkrown See, even that was a strategic move. By doing that Ragnar removed, well, really the worst and most greedy people from Kattegat and never let them have the chance to return. Everything about his death and final voyage was thought out. He had dark moments in every season, 4 most of all, but he was never unworthy of the living, intelligent legend people made him out to be. Even in his worst failures, the settlement and Paris, he took boats up the cliff and showed the people what their future could be. Only the craftiest King in England and his own brother could defeat Ragnar Lothbrok.
Whenever i am scared of somethint, i come here and learn a lesson from Ragnar. We are men, we have no limits. If you are afraid, that should not stop you. Because bravery only comes through fear. Without fear, there is no bravery
I love how the legend of Ragnar still scares people in the crowd. When transitions from the soft “Do it” to the yell people scream and jump back. Cracks me up
I think more than innocence it was his admiration fro Ragnar as a viking and finally seeing how ragnar carried himself and how people respected him and finally getting to see the legend he heard of his entire childhood
I've always felt like at this point in time and after that until his death. Ragnar feels like he's just done with the world. He misses the days when was younger, he had Lagertha, both his son & daughter, then Athelstan. He was but a farmer. He didn't want to be King. It always made me a little sad seeing him at this point. He was just done and wanted to end it all by letting himself be killed.
He said it in the one scene with Bjorn on the hill, “Power only comes to those willing to stoop low enough to pick it up” he never tried to be king, he just took on his obstacles when they approached and kept defeating the enemies that came before him
He was testing his boys, He wanted to know what became of them, and they became honest, respectful young men, In a sense they could never take a sword up against their own father for kingship. Its about respect, And love. It was also ragnars way of putting all the weight of his crown on his boys..Right There they knew, not even they were ready for the burdens it carries.
He was testing his kids, but not for respect and love, but if they would do what they should have done rightfully (kill him). They actually failed the test, and it proved that they are still not men or ready to be leaders and that he is still the only one fit to be king.
In order for a boy to become a man, his father must die, in some form. Whether tht be figuratively or literally. They have to outgrow his influence in order to become their own unique selves
His voice too....everything about the two are similar. I know if the show wrotes some similar adventures or virtues for Bjorn Im pretty sure he would be a copy and paste of Rhagnar. Alex is amazing, just like how Bjorn responded to Rollo when Rollp told him he was his real father. Bjorn was spot on.
I think the casting of hvisterk and sigur was way off, they look like kids. Too short, too thin and no facial hair. Shit sigur looks like a whore on the side of the road with that hair.
the aacting in this series is on another level..you can have a good series like this ..but the actors they chose for this were totaly brilliant. the series makers really managed to creat a legend of a series
One of the greatest ragnar moments easily the way hes making eye contact and breathing thrpugh his nose like a dam tiger...i just now realized a great little nuance i never caught...everyone there is either shocked or terrified except one. Ivar just looking up like "my dad is the goat"
There's something about the venom in his voice when he says to Ubbe "Are you afraid? Be a man" that fucks me up. This whole episode just had me in a state of melancholy. Made me realise that so matter how big your legacy is, how epic your stories are, time will take you just like everyone else.
A great warrior. Conquered places and made himself a legend by proving himself in battle. Nowadays, peoples get conquered by letting people in that have 20 kids Mustafo, eventually, they will live like rats.
I loved watching this years ago (miss ragnar and miss watching vikings) but my have black tiktok done even more magic with this scene. Got me ready to rewatch all of Vikings again.
In my opinion, If ubbe wasn't the one in front of Ragnar, the outcome would have been unpleasant, you can see it in their eyes, ubbe seemed more sympathetic towards Ranger than the others, he chose his father's pride over his own, I respect him for that, both of the actors did an amazing job, Travis not getting an award is a crime😭
I love how the boys were mouthing out about Ragnar just before this, but when they actaully came face to face with the old boar the little piggies froze. I think they all realised in that moment why Ragnar was so legendary
Even an old and tattered Ragnar still had that authority and charisma. No one dared to challenge him, even when he was begging them to. He was still as fierce and intimidating as ever. The look he gives Ubbe right before he says “You wanna be king Ubbe.” Is almost like he recognizes himself most in Ubbe.
I remember thinking: Ragnar is coming back, after a very long time. I wonder how is he going to act, how is he going to convince his people? And was thinking that there is no way they are going to pull this off and the scene is going to be shit anyway. Then I watched this unfold, and was left speechless. This is genius. Travis is flawless, the writing and directing are on point, this is just too good. With Ragnar they never missed.
The way he walked around desperately trying to hand off the sword to someone it's almost as if you can see the sword as a crown the way it represents the title of being King. Phenomenal acting by the guy who played Ragnar
I don’t know why it took so long to realize but Ragnar has the signature blue combat ready eyes here. Anyone who grabbed that sword was grabbing at the valkyrie’s feathers.
2 Things: Everyone wants to be king 👑 until the spotlight is on you. You can talk all the crap behind someone's back but be prepared for them to confront you without fear.
If he didn't get that internal bleeding at Paris he probably would've raided the Mediterranean, survived longer and win more battles (or become and addict)
Man, Vikings ain´t no Game of thrones, but scenes like these can´t be found anyware else. This speach and the one he gives before his death are probably better tan any individual scene, speach or dialog of any other series in its genre.
