I really loved how even when the main character died the show was still amazing with a great cast and how the events after Ragnars death was still connected, so in a way it felt as if Ragnar was still there, most shows go down hill once the main character is gone but the writers played it smart.

In the end, Ivar redeemed himself. He is one of the best characters on the show cause he changed and grew constantly, in a non-stoping tour de force. He saved his brother dying, cause he knew once he had died, as chess, the game would be over. So he said Hvitserk to step back, to let him go to valhala. He saved his brother and for that, Ivar broke the curse between them two and learnt the lesson from Sigurd. I actually think this is a lot better than a heroic death. But in the bottom of this non-popular shape of ending, it is heroic, choosing to die instead of your own brother. That showed Ivar was a cruel fighter built around his desease, but in the deepness of his heart, he had love to spare. Also when he says he is afraid, he shows the people who watch the show he is still a human being, who suffered a lot more than the rest due to his difficult disease, specially on those times. So it is understandable, not forgivable, the way he lived. A true fighter with a crying soul. p.d: finally, Hvitserk killed his brother, but in a very convoluted way. I would better say he was the reason he died. But none of us expected it would be a reason of love behind. I love it!

Honestly i dont feel his charachter needs any ”forgiveness”, i personally dont judge these charachters by the morals of today.
@rjart7988
@rjart7988 3 года назад
@@mikewazzupski u can´t judge history by the morals of today, but for sure you MUST judge the stories BASED ON history made nowadays by the morals of today. It sells cause it is built around the morals of today actually xddddddd (exposing things that collides with our thoughts or the opposite) I mean, the writters obviously make the series more atractive by adding things that catch people´s feelings and thoughts. Vikings is not a documentary mate (in the other hand, it is obviously fascinating to learn the real history, i am not trying to be mean to you ) ^^
@Bepzinol
@Bepzinol 3 года назад
This is exactly how i saw that scene! I think it did so much for both characters, and it was the only was to satisfyingly end the show.
@connorreyes8063
@connorreyes8063 3 года назад
@@mikewazzupski Well the morals of today and the morals of the Dark Ages were different, but still, any ruler during that time could see Ivar's crossing of the line. I loved the finale and it really made him seem like a hero. But then I thought as epic as this is, Ivar chose to invade Wessex not vicer versa. It would have been more heroic if the Rus turned on Ivar and the two sides were fighting but Ivar and Hvitizerk were the bad guys. As much as Micahel Hirst and the history channel portray the Vikings as the heroes and the Saxons as not, there were really no heroes but the Vikings were bad people. Ragnar was a bad person and I think that is what is so awesome out his redeeming qualities that shine in Ubbe and why he is my favorite character. If you played Assassins Creed Valhalla, they did the same thingb making Vikings to be the victims of Christianity spreading. I love Vikings and it is right up there with Game of Thrones but people have to remember that Ivar was not a good person. He burned women and children alive and I know he had a tough childhood but that still does not make it right. So yes while his death was epic and for whatever reason he told his brother who was killing saxons left and right to stand back to not interfer and get killed is weird. And yes I am aware that the earlier Saxons held the same as the Vikings with the Romans, but Ubbe and Alfred and even Ragnar at times are the ones who show a good moral backbone.

Pretty classic. Bjorn as king Ragnar. Hvitserk as drugged Ragnar. Ubbe as the explorator Ragnar. Ivar as the warrior Ragnar. But Ragnar would never ever have slaughtered his own people like Ivar did. Ubbe is the one who is the closest to Ragnar (even more than Bjorn) so far by his physical and by his thought.

@Frank Wallenstein The only reason why Ragnar is the best character in the show is that he was iconic from the start. Ivar took over from Ragnar. @amritteja6728
@amritteja6728 3 года назад
Ivar’s death (the way I’ve come to understand it): 1. His bones would have killed him regardless if he fought at the end or not. In the real story of ivar the boneless, he died due to a disease in his bones that left him crippled. 2. He chose his fate like his father in his last moments. He could’ve killed the boy at the last minute but decided not too, hoping to prove the seer wrong as his father did. To die to stabs of the enemy rather than to his unfortunate condition. 3. His last words “I’m afraid” were regarding to his name, not his death. He felt he lived too short a life to bring his name to his own standards. He wanted to accomplish much more but with his inevitable physical condition, he knew he had to accept something his soul would not. He was afraid to let go of what he had become, and afraid to find out if he would be able to carry it on with him even after death.

Vikings is over for weeks now but I still feel the grief... It was the most epic serie I've ever seen and to me Ivar will remain the deepest and the most interesting character of the decade. I loved him from the beginning to the end and my heart litteraly stopped beating when he took his last breath in Hvitserk's arms. Alex Høgh Andersen was truly masterful, as Marco Ilsø btw. The best duo of the serie. Thank you for this perfect tribute for the most famous viking who ever lived... it gave me goosebumps. Hail Ivar the Boneless, the true legend.

In the Viking TV series, possibly Ivar is a famous Viking, however this is fiction as you surely know. Rollo is the most famous, since his decendents changed Europe. ---- Concerning , the ''real '' Ivar the Boneless, ( Ivarr Ragnarsson ) he was a warlord in Dublin, Ireland who died for an inflection, quite suddenly and not in battle. This was about the year 873 !

Let's be honest for a moment.Ivar is better stratagem than his brother Bjorn.The reason why Bjorn won 2 battles against him is because in first ivar don't act in time cuz army of Harald was kinda big and he don't think to march first.Second was a beayatral of Frejdis the formation of army in walls was lethal

My 5yr old son has Cerebral Palsy. He cannot walk. He crawls everywhere when not in his wheelchair. My husband randomly came across this video. We immediately got teary eyed. This video reminds us so much of our son ACE. The personality.. the savageness.. the ruthlessness.. the determination. We have never seen this show, but it is playing on our tv now. We always say, “Imagine if he did not have his disability.. how much trouble he would find.” Our son is sweet as pie, but has that savage in him. It’s crazy. I truly believe if we lived in that time period… this would be him. Excited about the show!

Ragnar/Lagertha/Ivar were my favorite characters out of this entire series. Those three actors just acted the hell out of their roles and brought so much passion and life and brilliance to their characters. I'm sad this show is over but I'm glad it ended well and with appropriately dramatic and emotional grace. Your videos always feel like movies to me. You are so talented with the stuff you create that it boggles my mind. Seriously. This was a stunning tribute to one of my forever favs.

Ivar is the perfect example of how a man feels when he is broken. His mind is restless, he is full of questions about himself and the feelings he has. As soon as he opens up, he is betrayed, the pain makes his heart as cold as ice, but his mind as sharp as a knife. Yet he is not entirely cold, haunted by the thought that he must be a famous man who will not be forgotten. Who sees feelings as weakness because he was vulnerable to his own. A true man, a strong man who despised weakness, but above all in himself. That is how it should be. With this in mind, Hávamál: Deyr fé. deyja frændr. deyr sjalfr it sama: ek veit einn. at aldrei deyr. dómr um dauðan hvern.
