Ivar getting right up close and looking him in the eyes as he was dying was just phenomenal writing. As soon as the life leaves his eyes, you can see the joy spread across his face.
@GameBros I really like what they did with Ivar. On one hand, he is a cripple who cannot even walk; on the other, he recruited Heahmund who does the savage-like killing Ivar himself is known for. The two characters make one god - Ivar the Boneless.
“It gladdens me to know, that Odin prepares for a feast! Soon I shall be drinking ale from curved horns. This hero that comes into Valhalla does not lament his death. I shall not enter Odin’s hall with fear. There, I shall wait for my sons to join me. And when they do, I will bask in their tales of triumph. The Aesir will welcome me. My death comes without apology. And I welcome the Valkyries to summon me home!”
AbdeRazak Oussama of course he was. Just because he was killed doesn’t mean he wasn’t a bad ass warrior who earned Valhalla :) It was his fate even Ragnar knew that
Different cultures has different responses. In my culture this is very important both as a man or woman. To respect your wife's or husbands family. Or your elders well being and dignity by example. Yes there are bad apple's to. But if you hurt someone's daughter or sister by example, wait to get a harsh response, this is pretty much the case. No one will let you get on with it. Do you remember Sunny on the first episode from The Godfather movie? Well i am not Italian:)) but that response was pretty normal for me, when i was a child for the first time i saw. A man should know with what kind of people he is dealing with. That's very important to keep abusers and molesters in check. maybe not completely, but even for a meaningful percent. I remember when i have first met my sisters now husband. I invited him to a hunting trip. :)))))) Of course no one will hurt him. I am glad he was and still is indeed a empathetic person and didn't take it personal. Because it isn't. It is about to show anyone who will be in near future a part of your family that, his wife is not alone and precious for her loving family. We will respect you, as long as you respect the dignity, well being and honor of your wife and wife's family. That is the socially unwritten code of conduct . The daughter of one of my friends was abused and harassed by her foreign husband. I've learned it from him because of our regular morning breakfast we are having frequently. As senior man we do not feel ashamed to talk about such things because shit can happen every time right? Without waiting for a single moment. he booked his ticket with a couple of his men. Took his girl back. Sended her back to her homeland with the nearest flight possible. Faced her husband in accordance with his doings and got back.
I feel like bjorn isn't uncomfortable but just upset this man killed his father and he's not enraged but sad and every strike is just him releasing that anger and sadness but his face tells his hearts story of how sad he is. IMO
There’s no way Bjorn is horrified. That’s not his character at all. He’s still emotional about Ragnar’s death. I’m sure this wasn’t enough to pay back for the death of his father
The contrast between the two blood eagles is big.. one Alle was screamin the whole time but the other guy, forgot his name, was silent. I think Alle's constant screamin made it more dark...
Huss S oh i know.. i just liked how the directors focused in on the differences.. like when Jarl Borg was gettin blood eagled the camera work focused on him and his dedication to stay silent, while with Alle the cameras focused on the reactions of the characters around him because he was screamin so much it didnt really show any sort of big character moment
maybe, but i actually think that Aella took it quite well. This is a bloody gruesome way to die, i certainly would have been hysterical from the very start
I completely agree. The first time was more sort of spiritual and calm because everyone was forgiving him while he moved on to valhalla. But this scene he was screaming so much and we saw the actual details of the blood eagle and made it even more savage and dark. Ragnar wasn't so obviously angry I feel while his sons are intent on chaos and damage.
Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Sigurd look happy they’re getting their vengeance while Ivar look that as well but also somehow fascinated at Aelle’s reaction. Man this Bloodeagle ceremony was too much. The fat king wasn’t the only one who got wings at the end of it. Ivar’s legs may not work but his ruthlessness and cunning became the wings he needed to make his name soar through all the lands and we all saw it start in this war for vengeance.
Ivar The Boneless and like we saw with that beautifully curved slave girl... As horrific as your mind is, you have the heart of an andrex puppy gurning for a hard-on. Lol
Just how it was executed the energy the darkness just the vengeance in their faces. King Aelle killed their father and a hero to the Vikings. This is the punishment he deserved. I bet Ragnar was laughing from Asgard at that point, watching the old boar suffer and hearing the little pigs grunt.
Why would a man deserve punishment from defending his people and Kingdom from raiders, pillagers, and looters like the vikings? I mean, Ragnar attacked them first, him killing Ragnar when he could was just good sense and payback from everything that happened from Lindisfarne onwards.
Because AElle made it personal when it wasnt, Ragnar was just looting and fighting. He never tried to go at AElle personally, yes his possessions, but not him personally. Ragnar was a beated old man when AElle got him and there was no need to murder him. No justice was served. No honor.
dmingophd And there was justice and honor in vikings raping, looting, killing etc? Not to mention when they first landed, they just pillaged and murdered a bunch of unarmed monks. Then the second time they landed, a party came to the Vikings and tried to parley with them before being slaughtered. The English captain even gave Rollo a chain locket as goodwill. I mean I get it, the show is about the Vikings and I love the characters, but if you look at the whole thing in a neutral perspective they were the instigators and bad guys, and terrorized and killed a shitload of innocent people.
Damn ivae wanted to Iook in his eyes as he died... savage. "How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered" one of the best lines in history
One of the greatest death/revenge scene I’ve ever seen on screen. Goddamn this was fucking art. I love when they tie him up with his back skin flaps opened like that to resemble wings and how they nailed his hands down, mocking the enemy’s religion. And ivar crawling to be face to face so he could see the light leave his fathers killers eyes… 😘👌🏻 chefs kiss. This scene is more satisfying than chocolate. 🤣
When Ragnar said How the little pigs will grunt, when they hear how the old boar suffered I thought the little pigs=Ecbert and the other english kings and the old boar= King Aelle I mean Ragnar knew his sons coming to take a revenge and Aelle will be the first.
Aaaaaaaaah, Yes the blood eagle punishment one of the most cruelest to ruthless death, Done to kings and even knights as a trophy of accomplishment. Well done lads.👏👏
Honestly, I kind of wish Bjorn wasn't there. The sources I've read indicate that it was Ivar who gave Aelle the blood eagle treatment along with Ubbe. This just feels like Bjorn is taking the glory for himself at the expense of his brothers. Let him go explore the Mediterranean like he wanted. Give Ivar and Ubbe their rightful roles.
As far as i remember, all of them except Ivar tried to defeat Aelle but failed, and then Ivar struck a deal with him to give him a piece of land as compensation for their fathers death. Slowly Ivar mades friends with the other English nobles until he was sure that they would not support Aelle over him. That was when he sent word to his brothers to take their revenge. His brother came and defeated Aelle and made the blood eagle. So they were all there, if i recall correctly
People trafficking is a huge problem still, globally. Slavery by any other name. Not saying what's going on in America isn't a problem, it is, of course, but by no means was it the most common. It's just the most recent mass event in history, so fresher in our collective minds.
It is worth pointing out that there were in fact slavery being conducted too Africa aswell and not simply from. For example the slavery from the barbary states (north africa). Around 1.3 million european aswell as american civilans, traders etc. were enslaved. Granted it is a small number compared to the 12 million that was shipped over the atlantic from Africa, but it is something that most arent taught in school. Was basicly the beginning of the "super state" that is USA. When Tomas Jefferson confronted Barbary pirates about this, and they basicly said "fuck you we do as we like", he then proceded to create what would become the US Marine corps. They then sailed down and attacked the barbary pirates in what is usually called the first barbary war (1801-05). Sweden also joined the americans since they had already been at war with the barbary states since 1800. As far as Rollo goes its a long story. First of all there is nothing to suggest he is related to Ragnar or his sons historicly. But the essential and most impressive part of his story is basicly that he founded Normandie (means Northman's village/town basicly). But I suppose even more impressive is that he is the great great grandfather of Wilhelm the Conqueror which is the man who established the current royal family of England basicly. Not only that, but essentially every monarch in Europe (Sweden for example, since our current royals are actually french origin) can track their ancestery back to Rollo through Wilhelm. There are of course many details I dont mention here but yeah look up Rollo and Wilhelm the Conqueror.
As history states: Ivar the Boneless was the FIRST to perform a blood eagle on a foreigner to avenge his father.he was named boneless in battle not becuz he was born a cripple.it was said he was agile in combat.he fought in battles but it was never said he rode a chariot..so im thinking he was boneless in the fact he was ruthless. Either way I liked how Bjorn did it.becuz he was there to watch his father do it for the first time.
How the little pugs will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered crazy he said the same line Ragnar did when he was about to be killed everything comes full circle in the end.
Since the first blood eagle scene with Yarl Borg I feel the urge to just mention that no human would be able to stay conscious during a procedure like that. I know it's a show, I'm not actually complaining, it just really tickled my tongue :D
Except for the very rare .001% of cases recorded of humans who have that condition where they dont feel pain, literally every other human on the planet would pass out long before this would be completed. Once Bjorn started with the red hot blade he would have been out cold. He would have felt none of what came after and he would have departed quickly without ever really feeling anything and getting what he's due.
Love how Bjorn ended up being way badass just like his old man super sick same blood eagle stuff man what a monster don't fuck with a man's family. And damn tho does ubbe look like a reincarnated Ragnar crazy man how much they look alike.
