I heard that the actor playing Ivar actually crawled into the audition room and sat down to read his lines, they actually thought he couldn’t walk, until he thanked them for their time and stood up and walked out. Like a G.

Ubbe is like a farmer, like his father was. He wants peace. That doesn't mean he isn't a great warrior, like his father. Hvitserk is the warrior, like you said. He lives for this. Ivar is the strategist, a little bit (or more) crazy but a genius. And Bjorn Ironside, the adventurer. All traits of Ragnar. Now this doesn't mean that the brothers don't have the other ones trait , but those are the dominant ones. Like all of them are great

Ivar really contains the least amount of Ragnar. I've always felt he's more a combination of Rollo and the bad parts of Floki. Would gladly betray his brothers and even kill them for power and glory (Rollo) and completely unstable and fanatically bigoted (Floki's bad days a couple seasons ago).

Alex is brilliant. His portrayal of ruthless Ivar is spot on. Ivar the boneless was the most feared northman of his time. Even more feared and famous than his father was.

Ubbe didnt want Ivar to die. He paused because he couldnt believe that Ivar was holding off a saxon army by himself, he kept looking back and forth he was very confused, Ubbe actually loves Ivar deepdown, he loves all his brothers

Hes based on a real person who sacrificed hundreds, maybe thousands of Christian children. I love the vikings too but we should remember these events happened. If we watch a film about hitler we can get behind him and appreciate his rufflessness. But to say I don't care if he's evil I love him anyway is going too far. And ivars history as most of the vikings make hitler look like a Saint. This didnt start off as a war, this started off as the vikings raping, pillaging, stealing, and sacrificing.

Did they ever discover what disorder or disease made his legs like that if he couldn't walk in real life too that is? And did he have color running into the whites of his eyes? Or was that just something the show did? I do know that King Alfred the Great likely had Crohn's Disease and was sick all his life though.

Yep this is how it was in real history. The Christians thought the pagans worshiped satan. And you couldn't blame them.. Imigine reading or singing hyms in a church, with friends woman and children, and then you hear screams coming from the beach, you watchvas everyone starts to get slain or taken away on large serpent ships, and maybe they would leave a bloodeagle sacrifice on the shore. You get left alive to tell the story...To the Christians Odin was the devil.

@@partizanlegis that was a really good point. But it actually goes all the way back to the Minoan civilisation from around 2500bc, and more recently the phoenicians of around 1000bc. The minoans worshiped the minatour and the phoenicians worshiped ba'al, which was depicted as a minatour also. The religious practices were not just similar but almost identical to the vikings.. And we know the phoenicians were spreading their religion all over the med and southern Europe, I'm guessing they also had an influence over the peoples who would become the vikings. The histories of such things is even crazier than the fiction.

I met Alex at a road crossing, while I was walking my son Loki, in the babystroller. This was sometime last year, April I am sure, because Alex was going to see the new Prince of Egypt musical, which premiered in my city. Denmark is a small country! 😁 I have never been more starstruck and confused, I think... He is so tall! So polite, seems shy, but not much. He had fresh, white sneakers on, a denim jacket thrown over his shoulder, such a bright smile, and I also remember he walked with a limp, some sort of recent basketball accident. I guess you take in random details when you meet someone you've seen on TV! The transition from "YOU CANT KILL ME" to this sweet, humble young man, is crazy.. Pure talent!! If I hadnt been wearing a literal post-labor pig colored pajamas while I was out, I would have taken a photo with him!

Fun fact Marco Ilsø (Hvitserk) used to live a few streets from where i live now (Solrød) and have met him multiple times (he’s 4 years older than me i think), and have also talked with his parents many times (they still live there).

IN my opinion Ivar carries the words of his father (BE RUTHLESS!). The others didn’t have that bond as he did w Ragnar. Bjorn did have time w him and raided enough with him and was able to learn firsthand but Ivar is taking his fathers words to heart.

I've been waiting for this one since episode 1x1!!! This episode is so great! Ivar is SO terrifying, but I love it. A total chaos demon in his element. Those saxons were frozen in fear over a screaming cripple in the rain. Speaks to Alex' acting chops. He's so good. A damn national treasure here in Denmark! 🇩🇰❤🤘 Poor Ubbe.... I mean... he had it coming but I pity him..

Ubbe was most like Ragnar out of all the sons. Smart, calculated, patient, a demon in battle, saw the big picture always, watched everyone and seen everything at all times. Even looks like young Ragnar, great casting.

Keep in mind that this show is based on real history. York battle happened with Ivar commanding. And btw, Floky is in Iceland, although he was not who discovered it, that was changed for the show

It really does make you wonder what Ragnar would have thought of what Ivar became. He told Ivar to be merciless (some people say he said ruthless) and he said happiness is nothing. Clearly Ragnar in 4b was a much more cynical unhappy person but would he have supported this behavior? And the actions taken later in season 5? Food for thought I guess.

Well it is quite interesting to see each group evolving from the past, as the Saxons/Christian warriors now use shield walls they learned from fighting with the vikings. Most importantly that raid on Paris and other lands... I am sure Ragnars time spent with Ivar on the long voyage on boat, the journey of them two traveling through Wessex to King Eckberts kingdom no doubt Ragnar shared experiences and secrest of what happened on their raids, to Paris and their creative defenses. To us the journeys are short for episode purposes but we are talking weeks of knowledge being shared as Ragnar carried Ivar on his back. Unfortunately being Ragnar died before really giving his young sons those LONG TERM valuable lessons and teachings that you see Bjorn with since growing up on the battlefield with daddy Rags. Therefore Ubbe just trusts to easily...Fitzerk is torn between what he wants, Ivar wasnts fame and fortune while Ubbe wants his fathers dream to farm. Thanks guys keep'em coming great job Mr STEVE on the edits.

The place Floki found is Iceland. The land of fire and ice is what it is called. Not much good farm land mainly volcanoes and ice. Iceland is one of the most volcano rich places on earth. 130 volcanoes are on Iceland about 30 of them are active.

The crow mocking Floki reminds me of the Heckle and Jekyll the talking magpies on the cartoons I grew up on that used to mock the poor old man. They’d get in his TV set and prank him etc. Makes me laugh every time

Look up the actual historic accounts of "Ivarr hinn Beinlausi" as he was called. He was more than just scary. Since the old norse words for Leg and Bone are the same, it is unknown if he was legless, suffered from brittle bones or some disease, or if its a reference to erectile dysfunction. Most likely however, its a mistranslation from some old dialect, and his nickname was actually "Ivarr the Hated". Because one thing we DO know for sure about him. He could plot, scheme, and *knew* how to send a message by example. He was vile. One of the cruellest, ruthlessly cunning and brutal bastards this world have ever seen.

Ubbe was not as good for big talk like Ragnar, but he was only around 20's. When the show starts, Ragnar is 31, a farmer, has already lived many things, knows what he want... Ubbe is 20, only avenged his father, doesn't know what HE wants, only knows what his father wanted...
