I think the vikings had a tradition where they carried the boats while charging into battle sometimes. And vinland saga is based on real vikings.

the anime is called vinland saga, and its a masterpiece in storytelling based on actual viking history with actual viking historical figures. thorfin for instance is the earliest european to discover the north american continant, long before columbus did. its a must watch

You should see the heist of Constantinople - the harbor there was protected by a huge chain that denied entrance or exit to any ship if there was the need. A Viking raid came to there, stole all the gold they could, and used the stolen treasure as a counterweight to make their ships go OVER the chain. The Vikings were the most disrespectful savages in history, I'll tell you that...
