Vikings had these things called "Flytings" where they would exchange insults to one another and they were also usually written in poetic verse, they were essentially rap battles.
Okay in Thorfinn’s defense, he never knew about Floki’s involvement of his Dad’s death plus he was too focused on bodying Askeladd and he was too immature to not put 2 and 2 together at the time like Chavez says
Yeah. Read the manga and gotta say he didn't even realized or put it together but even if he did know of such information at the time, he was a little vengeance of a lad to shank Ask.
I don't know if any viking could classify as himbo. Himbos are, more or less, defined by a combination of muscular physique, low to average intelligence, and a heart of gold. That's why Kronk is literally THE himbo. He is the epitome of all 3 traits. I think that Vikings, by definition, fail to meet that 3rd pre-req for being a himbo. They weren't exactly know for their purity of heart or kindness lol
While a viking seems as nothing but a barbarian to outsiders, they do possess a hearth of gold once they get to know you and you them. This I take from the cultural rumor or fact about Norwegians. So take it with a grain of salt.
@@Harleopet Yeah... I don't think it counts when they're only being nice to their in-group. And I never said they were barbarians. That word is a poor descriptor of any group of people in human history that has been considered "uncivilized" by the dominant regional force Point is, they don't exactly pass the bar for what make a himbo. That's not to say that there weren't Norse dudes who would meet the qualifications, but Vikings, specifically likely wouldn't. Ya know... because of all the pillaging, murdering, slaving, war, and... abhorrent acts against women.
@@Chavezzslovakia Epic Rap battles of history: Thor Vs Zeus. "Val-holla at ya boi and we'll Flyte it out, keep ya asguard up I ragnarok the house." yeah. no bullshit. vikings had rap battles historically.
@@Thirzy Well yeah. Pacifism is only pacifism if you have the ability to do violence but you choose not to. Thors and Thorfinn don't say to not defend yourself, just that attacking should be the last choice you pick on the list. If you can negotiate, evade, run, do so. Only when you're backed into a corner do you do what must be done.
@@jamesfrey6136 I have no idea what you're talking about. Avoiding violence isn't being soft, it's being reasonable. "Hard Times create Good Men" well they also create the worst monsters and it's better to avoid that.
@@jamesfrey6136 not only are you wrong but you got the phrase wrong as well its hard times create *strong* men, *strong* men create easy times, easy times create *weak* men. and yes though conflict is inevitable in curtain situations it is not weak or wrong to resolve situations in a calm and collected way.
Na No one but Askeladds crew knew that they were hired by floki to kill thors. Canute didnt know, egg head didnt know, thorkell didnt know. I feel the frustration with kitten and i hate that he is alive but yeah, no one alive knows that info but floki now.
SPOILERS: Floki's involvement in Thors' death will become a pretty important point in the (not yet released) Season 3. Until then, Thorfinn doesn't know because nobody told him... and he never asked.
The Aztecs are actually way after the vikings. Might not seem like it since the Aztecs are often portrayed like they're ancient, but they're hundreds upon hundreds of years after the vikings. The Aztecs are closer to George Washington than the beginning of the Viking Age.
9:45 Good point. Counter point: The Jomsvikings were a feared viking organization reaching far beyond just the fleet on their shores and would have come and slaughtered everyone in retalliation to a deserter who killed a high ranking member. Also the vikings currently there would have caught some bodies before Thors would have the chance to kill them
Yeah pretty much. Even if he stopped the attack which I mean he probably could there'd be a lot of people dead by the end and I'm sure half the village burnt down
@@Chavezzslovakia Dumb and Strong is a Jock. Nice and Strong is a Hunk. Dumb and Nice is just a Decent Man. Dumb, Strong and Nice well that's a Himbo. There's like an entire Venn Diagram of this lol.
I mean if thors killed flokie nothing’s stopping the kingdom from hunting them down n killing em after finding out assuming they can beat all those highly trained soldiers
what is rarely shown in popular culture about "vikings" is that they were ordinary people with homes, jobs and families. the terms Viking is misleading as it is often interpreted as the norsemen who went trading, raiding and working often as mercenaries. the term is to go viking wich means to do all of the previous and most of wich was trading. a norseman is not a viking, to go trade, raid and work is to go viking. the examples in this video are all vikings but would probably be better fit to be called "einherjar" wich the meaning of the word were not sure of but is generaly translated as "those who fight alone" wich is interpreted as the outstanding ones. the einherjar are the fighters who died and came to valhalla for their skill and bravery.
What do you mean he didn't inform them? Most of the villagers trained and actually could fight and a good but already been in a battle before plus it wasn't thors responsibility to teach the villager that since he wasn't the leader and he tried to teach throfinn but he didn't care
That blondish guy with a beard reading the proclamation about half way through the video, his voice reminded me of bevis and butthead doing a cornholio impression
In his defense he couldn't have known his father's death was orchestrated because Thors only put it together mentally he never actually spoke to askeladd about it
44:50 I see what you mean but maybe the worst possible game choice for this example as in Dark Souls you actually do die every time, you are just revived at the Bonfires. The analogy works better for games like Skyrim or Dragon Age
Fun fact: Viking warships were designed to be carried over land if they needed to. That’s why you see Askalad’s men carrying their ships in that one battle.
I always kind of thought Thors probably should have just jumped that whole ship full of guys the moment they pulled up to the dock in Iceland. Just don't even give them a chance. He knows how it goes. But then, it's a very short story...
16:00 i still dont get why he didnt immediately punch the man in the face, he said he dont need swords to beat their ass so why didnt he not beat their ass with his fist like he did everyone else
My bf has been wanting me to watch Vikings so bad and I didnt want to at first cause of Thorfinn and his dad and how fucked their situation is, but after hearing about some context behind the characters, I now am willing to watch the show xD
9:10 i mean they the army waiting on standby so that would be a terrible idea unless he going to solo the entire army while protecting every person in the village which I doubt he could do when the army is full of some of the most feared Vikings, as strong as thors is there's no way he would of bodied the whole army while protecting his entire village
enjoy the final battle with floki and the match with thorkels son. is the best you will get of adult thorfinn. the rest is mope mope mope and 3 other seasons prepping for vinland.
The real og menaces were the sea people, the first menaces recorded history, such menaces that they destroyed all the recorded history we had before 6000 years ago
