1) welcome to THALL -about time 😁 2) they have two vocalists -hence the seemingly layered effect at times. 3) pronounced vild-jarta (=wild heart) 4) this band is very much influenced by Meshuggah, but for me, the only band perhaps heavier than the latter by virtue of their more organic as opposed to mechanistic (rhythmic) sound.

The low vs high "call and response" approach this band have to writing riffs is my favourite thing about them. Amazing band, their new singles are promising too. New album to released in October this year.

Perfect choice of the song, shadow is the song that got me in to this band 10 years ago and to this day they are my favorite band, every single song is unique and grows to you more each time you listen to it.

It's a duet. There's 2 singers. Each with his growl type. One is more classic "fry" scream. The other is much deeper. Comes from the diaphragm or whatever. The one you can't understand a single word but adds so much to the style. It's not a single singer... Re-listen to it, you'll see... :) Also : this whole album is a concept album. A story. A dark, twisted, horror version of Alice in Wonderland. (or that's how I feel it at least) This is the intro song. Basically : down the rabbit hole. (Again, that's how I see it) And the song ends with "You will never see the light again NO ONE CAN SAVE YOU NOW" (with both singers going together for the last part)... gives me the chill every time... ALSO : Cult of Luna : do Cygnus ! It's from one of their last album. The whole album is made in cooperation with an external, female singer : Julie Christmas. This song if the finale. The AWESOME finale. There's so much to say/feel about it... !

Literally been waiting for you to do this band. These guys are one of the most innovative heavy bands out there. They're finally BACK with a full length after 10 years. Great video as always!

Also, I would really like to hear your opinion on one of their more recent tracks “Den Helige Anden”, which is a little bit less chaotic but the most badass song they’ve created. THALL! This album was a bomb in that years, very low sound in the guitars and two guttural vocalists, damn heavy as fuck. Swedish bands are very talented and well produced. My personal djent suggestion: After the Burial - "Berserker" (2009 version) Just a classic in this subgenre. PD: Cult of Luna? I love this channel.

Favourite Prog band right here and one of my favourite albums ever. This is in G Standard and the low end is mostly the bass!

For me, these melody switches are like a journey in the ocean. One minute it's chill, beautiful, and haunting(?), and another moment there is just a storm of chugging that crushes you and you can't do anything about it.

There are a few bands on this planet that can beat me to pulp and VILDHJARTA is one of them. Their riffs feel like hypnotizing waves, so powerful! Together with MESHUGGAH, UNEVEN STRUCTURE and HUMANITY'S LAST BREATH they demolish EVERYTHING in their path. Cool vid Geebz and your I AM BEING BLOWN AWAY-expression was very entertaining. These guys are set to drop another album sometime this year or early next. The three singles they've put out so far are all amazing tracks. Definitely recommend checking one of them out if you want to see the sound progression of this band. Their old EP, Omnislash, is also a great listen. BTW, there are two vocalists on this album, so if you're hearing some layering or different styles of vocals, much of that is attributed to there being two of them, and they have fairly different styles. The music video for Dagger kind of showcases a bit better how they trade off and work together, since you can see them each performing specific parts and growling/screaming together.

The guitar riff with those low notes and high dissonant parts mixed in between reminds me of Twelve Foot Ninja - One Hand Killing. This is a bit heavier than the stuff we normally hear here, but I dig it! I recommend you check out Soilwork - "Petrichor by Sulphur" if you wanna stay heavy!

Geebz! You gotta check out toooo many new Vildhjarta songs from their new album cause it is insane! Just to pick a few though I would say go for "passage noir" "heartsmear" or "paaradiso" since those seem to be what i'm listening to the most.

After years of vildjharta.. it’s still physically impossible not to break my nek head banging to this stuff. It may take a couple of listens before you can appreciate it though. Good stuff on the channel btw 👍🏾

One of the most evil sounding band I've ever heard. Something about their clean guitar ambiance and interval/chord choices with the distortion just does it fit me. If you revisit them I hope you'll do their song Dagger. Also worth mentioning is Uneven Structure, who fall somewhere in between these guys and Tesseract/Monuments. Frost would be a good song from them.

We've been waiting 10 years for another full length album and finally in October it will be released. We die-hard fans could not be more excited! oh yeah and... THALL :)

Sweet beans, Mr Geebz! Would still recommend the band Veil of Maya, my cousin Lukas is the vocalist, but don't get confused thinking they're some unknown, local band, they're most definitely not. A good song to start with would be Outsider.

Great video man! I'm glad we were all able to introduce you to these guys. Hopefully you could check out a band named Car Bomb next. They have a very interesting and unique sound and I think the best song to start with is called Fade Out.

Once again I highly recommend another band that I think you'd really enjoy, Ever Forthright. I recommend "Screen Scenarios" by them. Lot of fun technical surprises I think you'll enjoy (I won't spoil them here). Ever Forthright's vocalist is the same as Monuments (at least on what you listened to, Monuments has a different vocalist now).

I know you JUST did this one, but Dan Helige Anden (under vatten) off Vildhjarta's new record is such a sick song. Their newer stuff is absolutely bonkers, you'd definitely get a kick out of it.

Awesome reaction! I love vildhjarta because they really challenge the necessity melody within music- either an absence of or a strongly dissonant melody. Love their ability to create such a broody atmosphere. It’s kinda like the dark fast moving clouds right before a tornado- you know it’s coming and it’s gonna hit hard…but, they give you something to hold onto with the 4/4 driving heavy on the crash. As you’re getting into some HEAVY stuff (I’m sure your list is LONG) I’d recommend called Batushka- Yekteniya I: Ochishcheniye. They’re a cool Russian orthodox inspired black metal band. I think you’ll find them interesting.

So many awsome bands and songs in 2021 but their are two bands that just is on another level Vildhjarta with their tracks Toxin and Kaos 2 Rivers of Nihil with their tracks Clean and Focus

I might not be their biggest fan, but they still have one of the most unique and cool guitar tones I've ever heard. That multi-chanel screaming they do, is so jarring. Love it.

Ahhh Drop Balls. My favorite tuning

You ought to check out their song Dimman off the Thousands of Evils EP. About 2/3rds of the song is clean acoustic like tones but the like twinkly etherial stuff is layered with deeper chuggy riffs but acoustic and its interesting how the difference in instrumentation takes the same kind of melodies and rhythms in their heavy parts and makes them feel totally different. Then after the "Acousti-Djent" part a heavy crushing distorted section finally crashes down in, with a stripped down clean guitar over top playing an eerie descant. Their ability to carry themes throughout the song and keep spinning them different ways before finally unifying all the motifs into a single climactic phrase/arrangement for the final part of the song. you saw it in this one too, acoustic intro->heavy riff-->acoustic interlude-->heavy riff crashes back in for a layered section with the two themes and textures juxtaposed. Pieces that don't sound like they'd fit together so neatly when you hear them individually and then when they all fall into place together and the realization hits it knocks you back in your seat.

Excellent video Geebz. Was waiting for you to do a song off this album. I really love how you’re getting a feel for the varied growling techniques in metal. Too many people, even those who claim to listen to metal, write off all extreme vocals as sounding like Cookie Monster. Please do something from Tallah. Preferably “No One Should Read This”. Their album Matriphagy is in my opinion phenomenal, the music itself and the engineering. I think they have one of the most if not the most versatile vocalists in metal today, Justin Bonnitz. And Max Portnoy(son of Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater) is an explosive drummer. Thank you!

aww man. Vildhjarta is truly one of the greatest. they're really heavy (drop Balls) and as such, alot of people who arent already into heavy havent really gotten into them, and thats a true shame. they are chaotic and absolutely all over the place, but at the same time, every one of their notes is exactly where they need to be. i really wish we could get more advanced breakdowns of the absolute musical mastery of literally any of Vildhjarta's songs. One thing i'd like to note, Vildhjarta's works, particularly Masstaden, bleed into each other. each song on the album flows into the next. the ending to 'Shadow' is the beginning to 'Dagger', and so on. not only this, but as a whole, all the songs on Masstaden tell a coherent narrative with characters and setting and drama. hot take, but with a bit of work, it could make a wild stage play. They also (from my layman ear perspective) employ two vocalists who bounce off each other, alot like Linkin Park actally. Once you're used to em, you can tell the vocalists apart. they also have excellent use of silence, letting silence actually play out as a short note in a few songs. one of the things i truly love, is how they connect the clean segments with the heavy ballcrushing segments, and contrast them to get more out of both of em. theyll play a ballcrushing riff and slip a few clean twangs into it, and in most of their riffs, theres always some pretty melodic bit playing out behind the heavy riffs. much more rarely, but they will also sometimes bring in technical glitchy computer sounds and slip them into their riffs in place of the melodic bits, and its always so very nasty. i could gush about them for days. everything Vildharta has released is absolutely golden. from their Omnislash demo, Masstaden, Thousands of Evils, and now, quite recently, Masstaden under vatten. Thall.

A few suggestions for Geebz: Devin Townsend- Kingdom on EMG TV Babymetal- BxMxC Unearth- Sanctity Of Brothers, or Giles Massface- Shadows Windrose- Diggy Diggy Hole Metallica S&M- No Leaf Clover Exit Eden- Paparazzi Unlucky Morpheus- Dance of Eternity (it's the full band minus a vocalist performing a Dream Theater cover)

Thanks for reminding about this band, I used to listen to them when this album came out. Looking back it gives me a kind of horror/suspense soundtrack vibe mixed with a ton of syncopation.
