Hi James , Hi Ness; Hey James an exceptional episode of the build. As they say hine-sight is truly 20/20, while not taking away or lessening the amount of care,detail and oversight given to Villa Felize by you, I know without a doubt you could have and would have had less hair pulling and restless nights had Romeo been at the helm of your build. He could hold a master class in the education, and experience sharing of building techniques that ,hands down would help improve the standards used by many veteran contractors here in the Philippines.

James: does a basement make the house stronger or sturdier In Typhoon? i.e. deeper foundation etc… And hey don’t forget to pick those coconuts at Villa Feliz.

A basement is one of the best places for a shelter during an event like a typhoon. Concrete floor, walls and roof. Most damage to homes during a typhoon comes to the roof which sometimes completely blows away. And yes, with a basement, it is necessary to drive the footers deeper also helping with the overall strength of the structure.

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't discussed the project cost with either the contractor or the owners as a matter of courtesy with regard to privacy. If the owners wish to share this I will indeed bring it up in a follow on episode.
