My neice is half-Native, her daddy is full Tuscarora. She dances in powwows and has since she was young. The dancer must keep his feet moving with every beat of the drum. The drum is big, with a deer or leather covering and a group of men chant while beating. The beat represents the heart beat of Mother Earth. And yes, I have been to many.

Well anyhoo, I was about 28 and my housemates and I would hold a rodeo keg in our garage, just 1 block from the back entrance for the performers. One year a couple from the dance asked if they could join us...that early( 9 pm) only few of us there...sure! I say. After a few I'm all , hey tell your friends to come over. We had a BLAST ! about 20 or performers were partying with us 40 or so cowboys at the end of the night. Great fun had by all. And NO, there was no dancing LOL.

Dancing is sacred in our culture, sometimes used for fun but many times used in ceremony, this is only one of the many traditional dances of the native American tribes, glad you got a chance to see it

We Indigenous people have our own sport events. WEIO Olympics and the Indian Relay. The first one I mentioned they do things like carve seals see who is the fastest. Second one is also amazing as well. Indigenous people run what is similar to a triathlon but with horses.

I I ove this hoop dance! once when I was a young girl, my parents took us to see this dance performed at BYU. The Native Americans who performed it did it in the dark with glowing hoops, it was so phenomenal, we all jumped and shouted and hurrah afterward, and they came back and did a little more even. That was a memorable evening. It's been over 40 yrs ago since then, and I still remember it!

Check out a fancy dance or a jingle dress dance! Now those are elaborate! Proud to be Cherokee so thankful for our brave ancestors who fought so hard and endured much hardship and suffering for this to continue!
