I always love the line: "Salvation lies Within." When the warden hands Andy back the Bible, not knowing this is where the hammer is hidden. In the warden's arrogance he literally hands Andy the tool he needs to escape.

This is a perfect movie. This may be the best reaction I've seen to it. They followed closely and didn't really miss anything, which certainly isn't as easy with foreign films. Their thoughts along the way were very astute. Naveed is as good at reviewing movies as he is at reviewing food; thoughtful and articulate. Mansoor was so overjoyed at the end, he needed a hug, and that brought tears to my eyes. Bravo!

What a couple of genuinely wholesome guys. They could watch a movie about a guy that eats babies and they'd be all "This movie had some scary elements, but it reminds me of how precious every moment of life is." Then "Give me a hug" at the end cemented it for sure - I love these guys.

Absolutely great reaction. I loved how they went from being on the strict, religious, disciplined Warden's side, and assuming Andy gets what he deserves to a complete flip flop. That is exactly what this movie is supposed to do. The smiles on these guys' faces at the reveal of the tunnel were pasted on until the end. I couldn't help but smile ear-to-ear watching them. The hug sealed it for me. They will never forget this foreign film.

This movie was filmed in a real prison located in Mansfield, Ohio about an hour from my home. It's called The Ohio State Reformatory and it ceased being a prison in 1990. It is a museum now accepting tours and it is especially popular around Halloween because of how creepy it is. The movie was filmed there a few short years later and was released in 1994. There are tours dedicated to the movie.

It was directed by the same guy that did The Green Mile, Frank Darrabont and the redemption is Reds, not Andy's. Andy was never guilty of anything but through him Red comes to terms with his crime and is redeemed in the end. Great reaction to one of the greatest movies ever. 😊
@0okamino
@0okamino 11 месяцев назад
I largely agree with you, but I think there was some other important redemption along with Red’s. Andy wasn’t legally guilty of murder, or any crime before he went to prison, but he was burdened with guilt over his failed marriage, and the events leading to her murder. He needed to come to terms with that, and redeem himself to himself. While Andy, at the very least, knowingly abets in criminal acts for the warden, I think that could be reasonably argued as being done under duress. Escaping from prison is illegal even if you’re innocent, and his sentence had not been overturned. If it could somehow be overturned, they might go easy on him, all things considered. The one I have bigger doubts about being able to justify in court is Andy (um, I mean Randall Stevens) profiting from the warden’s crimes with the fraudulent identity. Who knows? With a good enough lawyer, the court could possibly be swayed more sympathetically on that as well. Andy did, indeed, have to go to prison to become a crook.

Beautiful video! "Red" and "Irish" joke is, "Red" is a common name for a man with red (ginger) hair, usually a man with Irish/Scottish heritage. Red's surname is "Reddington" with "Red" as nickname, he makes a joke he is Irish man, but people of color are almost never from Ireland, usually very pale white skin. It's meant to confuse someone and make them laugh.

@lyletuck
@lyletuck Год назад
Let our stalwart reactors know that many Irish people have red hair, and therefore are sometimes called "Red!" (The character in the book _was_ Irish. The movie character is probably joking about being Irish, as it's not likely that an African-American has Irish ancestors, though it is certainly possible.) Also, there's an old term in the Southern U.S. for mixed-race or multi-cultural people and that term is/was "redbone". That term might easily be shortened to "Red" and used as a name or nickname for Morgan Freeman's character.

Wow....prisons in the 1940s/1950s were scarier than they are today. Prisoners seem to have a lot of rights these days....not back then...lol. Also, the black market and corruption is still going on today even with all the cameras etc....the only difference is that the inmates are more creative today and they have created a much more sophisticated network.
