It was so kind of Raeen to comfort Babu. As much as we all like to see progress, it is a little frightening when you are older like Babu and you know you do not have the physical strength to learn complex new ways of doing things. He has spent a long lifetime working hard and has a wealth of knowledge to give his sons' and grandson's. Raeen's children's generation will be the one most effected by these new ways I think. It is up to Raeen and his generation to help his children with the education they will need to be effective in living in a world with new technologies.

Firstly, I love Raeen's interest in and thirst for knowledge, particularly when it comes to scientific things. I do wish he had access to higher education. His whole face changes, eyes light up and it's a beautiful thing! Please let them know that you can do different types of vertical gardening anywhere that doesn't cost much money at all. You should show them a video of these types that they could try right at home. Also you should show them videos on hydroponic gardening that can also be done at home on a small scale and are relatively inexpensive as well. There are lots of RU-vid videos showing how to create small hydroponic systems with everyday items. You don't have to have huge warehouses and mega million dollar equipment to do things like this on a small scale.

That is really an interesting technological perspective, and a great idea to show them. Althoigh I feel sorry for Babu getting future anxieties in the end. However, it made me think of something which is called, I think, urban farming, which, as far as I understand it, is mostly used by private persons and small start-ups as an affordable way to produce crops for personal or local requirement. Maybe that could be something, too, to show them about.

Was hoping someone had beat me to this! This video was great, but now they need to see some things that are attainable and helpful. Showing them urban gardens would help them a lot, I think, mainly because of their lack of water. They might also be interested in growing sprouts because of its speedy, high yield and the need for less water for more nutrients. Happiest New Year 🎉 🙏❤️

They should be told that these videos are basically advertisements for new tech and paints themselves with glory. I'm not saying this particular product is not good or even revolutionary in concept, but it's not the be all end all of farming. 1) If the concept is good, there will be much better and cheaper solutions in the future, that don't require 100 million to set up. And there will be DIY setups also. 2) Even if the concept is good and it gets a lot cheaper, it's still not going to replace traditional farming fast. 3) Many of the concepts that allow them to grow crops in 10 days can be adapted in some way in traditional farming, like smarter use of water, understanding the needed nutrients of the crop, understanding crop light cycles(for example you can force many(most?) plants to flower by controlling their light cycles, that is cover the plant so it gets certain hours of light. This is ofc harder with sun than led lights), hydroponics, best growing patterns, etc.

My older brother is a biologist who has been trying to introduce vertical farms / micro greens to urbanization in my country, to help clean the air in cities, less use of farmland to use for more oxidizing plants and for people to grow their own produce at home. This was quite interesting reaction to see.
@AndroidGuru13
@AndroidGuru13 2 года назад
You can only really grow small plants like microgreens or strawberries with this... the staple crops can't be grown vertically ... YET.... like potatoes, carrots, beans, rice, wheat, corn etc , crops that actually fill up your stomach can't be farmed vertically YET.

@@01DOGG01 Well, here in Norway we don't, we use hydropower, for other places, its possible. The idea is to distribute more greenery in deep urban environments that lack it or to allow more varied nutrition for people and yes, the whole point is for it to be able to survive a harsher environment, gmo is allowing us this, of course doing it naturally is a challenge for him. @norXmal

@goldluck Dave Kazkade Indeed, I think it's important that we don't abandon people behind from the advancement of technology, figure easier systems, cheaper but also less damaging to produce and remove. I honestly have no idea how it should be integrated, if it is slowly but steadily or a mass shift, who will cover costs and so forth, I think it will mostly be the responsibility of the government along with an organization or more. Difficult to say, but we both know we can't continue like this along with the population growth.

Couple of thoughts: Babu is right, the way of the poor farmer will change. They will be a need to retrain them to work in these factories. There will always be niche traditional farms. Minerals in soils and microclimates generate unique food and fruits. Look at the wine industry as an example. This is also another form of farming, simply exposing these men to new ideas we are planting seeds. These men will excitedly go back to tell what they have learned, hopefully some of this will fall on fertile ground and be put into effect by those with the ability and need. I used to work for Suzlon building their global wind farms. This company started in India due to a man’s need for affordable, stable electricity for his small cotton factory. Now it’s massive and a technological world leader. Great things can grow from a seed. Who knows what this video will spark ! The excitement on these mens faces is delightful to watch, they are so interested in another way of farming. It would be great if somehow they could be taken to other countries to see first hand what else happens in the world. It would be money well spent. 6:53 You can use *aspects* of it. Forget about the robots, they're too expensive. But you can build buildings, plant plants in them and use LEDs to ensure that they grow despite lack of sunlight. As long as the electricity price is low enough you can earn money on it, allowing you to have better yields then you'd otherwise get from the land area of your current farm. Due to a lack of robots you'd probably have more manual work required in order to replace all the robots used in these western farms, and you'll probably have somewhat lower yields. But the space efficiency should still be there. And you might also get at least *some* of the water conservation effects of these western farms.

15:11 True, but that's short term. Long term the technology involved will fall in price. Also, there's aspects of it that *can* be done cheaper, indeed *you* can make use of this to some degree. If you have a house near your farm, you could grow plants along the walls of that house, making use of that extra space a little bit. You could use the roof. You could add automatic watering. And perhaps you can make racks and grow food there too, using those LED lamps. As you make more money you can build roofs over your plants to protect them from the elements and perhaps recover some of the water you spend. If you take your time and do this bit by bit you *can* increase the yields from the limited land areas you have this way, reduce the water cosumption and increase food production from the Earth you have access to. The robots will probably always remain out of reach for you, but with many of these elements you can still improve productivity, making food more available to people, and earn more money yourselves.

They can see that they can build an earthen building that'll last thousands of years, is fireproof, and temperature controlled, could be made with local materials around them ro any size they'd like👍, maybe their villages could benefit from this technique .

I think traditional farming communities will just be brought into the vertical farms. They will be taught the new farming techniques and then make way more money.

This could be the answer to food deserts in big cities, lots of places have empty warehouses or big box stores that could hold operations like this. If the great plains of North America could be given back to the Buffalo that could provide a very healthy meat that could feed the whole world sustainably. I hope they figure out growing grains.

They can sort of use this without all the high tech. A search of something like "hanging garden wall pocket bags" shows a way to use a sunny wall to grow things. I'm sure they could make it themselves, especially as one of them is a tailor. Building hydropinics on a small scale is really easy. But getting the nutrients right for hydroponics is really hard without buying it. I would think well nigh impossible in a village that hadn't even heard of it.

Such advancements will require the recreation of Universal Basic Incomes (UBIs) - the simple fact is that with such tech not everyone has to work, or everyone just works a little bit.

Before I listen to their commentary, this video was scary to me tbh. I felt like I was watching a commercial. This was not a hard reset, this was a hard sell. Ppl are already concerned about GMO and now we have to wonder what genitically engineered food will do. We're always told we don't get enough sun and the lack of vitamin D on mood and immunity. Now food will be grown with artificial light like someone growing weed in their basement. I understand the need and want of every thing explained in this video, but at what cost?
@jdb101585
@jdb101585 2 года назад
There are no actual, evidence-based concerns about GMOs, just fear by the "organic" industry trying to get higher prices for their environmentally irresponsible "greenwashed" products. Indoor growing eliminates or drastically reduces the cost of so many things associated with outdoor farming; including crop losses, fertilizers, pesticides of all kinds, transportation, and crop damage/waste.

the only drawback from micro farming is that it does away with bee colonizing , so, grow flowers .
@jdb101585
@jdb101585 2 года назад
Most wild bee populations are fine. Commercial honeybees negatively impact native species and are generally stressed themselves when shipped around to handle outdoor farming pollination.

Babu is right to be concerned. However, vertical farming is in its infancy; it will be a long time before it can expand. I think he missed the idea that vertical farm complexes provide jobs in many areas, not just the raising of crops; construction, harvesting, packaging, and so on. Therefore, should vertical farming ever reach his area, local farmers can learn new techniques and still make a living. Small local farms will still be useful as well. Also, with the clean environment, there is no need to use pesticides, which will also benefit people's overall health. However, that will not happen overnight, and though Babu and Raeen are right to be concerned, there will be time to adapt so that few, if any, people are adversely affected.

Yes this is something even I haven’t heard about the west I try to keep up on technology what is the first time I’ve heard of us of this and it is true what they’re saying it has many advantages and disadvantages However it is another option and perhaps disadvantages could be ironed out somehow for instance workers that normally work in the fields could be working for vertical farming

You guys need to invest in alvacados in India. Get what land you can , and start learning the nuances of the crop . You wont get wealthy for a few years , but then the final selected trees mature , and things will change.

If you don't have to turn land over to farming, it can be turned to other things. Besides which, animals still need farming. But how many people gain employment from farming as it is over there? Yes change is upending, but you can't see it in isolation and out of context. These things need to make sense in a way current economic paradigms don't. Any technological shift in consciousness must be commensurate with a shift in humanitarian modalities.

The only problem I can see is the food being too clean. If the immune system doesn’t have exposure to lots of different things then it is weaker. If food is too clean then our immune systems will be worse which means we will be more likely to get ill and our illness will be worse. A way around this is adding certain bacteria, etc into the food, taking sort of immune system booster pills, or general immune system boosting shots to compensate for the lack of pathogens in our food.

"A way around this is adding certain bacteria, etc into the food, taking sort of immune system booster pills, or general immune system boosting shots to compensate for the lack of pathogens in our food." Yeah, we have a way already, they're called vaccines. Foodborne illness such as salmonella doesn't magically create immunity to future exposure either. If you catch dysentery, it doesn't "improve your immune system." The point is to avoid catching it in the first place. Sickness wears down your body and causes damage, it doesn't improve it.

This technology is beyond their reach and not applicable to their lives. However, showing them mixed-size greenhouses and cold frames is within their reach. Especially the DIY ones. If they can just start their seeds earlier and harvest later, they can grow much more in the same space.

I bet the farmers would be good at helping replenish all that nature that's currently being used for human food. They could get work planting trees and otherwise helping to bring nature back to where it should be, since robots can't really do that in a forest.
