I tested the Viltrox and returned it, as the AF of the 33/1.4 is superior (AF C, shhoting burst, moving model). Viltrox shows Fujifilm, how good and how silent a modern lens could be, at a very reasonable price with outstanding IQ (like the stunning 75/1.2). In Germany, the initial price for the 27/1.2 was 599€, now there are offers for 499€. A fast and huge price drop for such an exceptionally good lens. This looks like it isn't selling as expected. I hope Viltrox continues! Fujifilms new XF lenses are disappointing (56/1.2 WR ...). And no roadmap any more.

Have the 23, 27 and 33 at the moment and having a really hard time deciding which should stay and which should go. Took all three on a trip to try to pin it down. As far as the weight of the Viltrox goes, if you have an x-t body or smaller, you also need to add the weight of an L-grip, which is essential. Extra 130g for me. For me it's more that it takes up more space in my bag and with the grip on especially. I think the only time you really notice the f1.2 bonus is when you are closer to the subject. If you are shooting further away subject (a few metres+) then you don't notice and it's more about rendering and colours. I like the 27 and 33 for different reasons. 33 has nicer rendering with a bit more warmth. Using the 27 I move the WB adjustment more into the red. It's also more uniform from corner to corner - so better for street and travel generally. More of a Swiss army knife. The 27 on the other hand is sharper when used optimally. It also has swirly bokeh with busier backgrounds and flares. A character lens. Fun for a different kind of portrait against backdrops you might avoid like foliage and urban decay. A modern day Helios. Least favourite is the 23. Great close up, but harsh bokeh often.

I had the 23 and 33 and often couldn’t decide which to take. I replaced both of them with the viltrox 27. less weight and size in my bag the with the other to and no longer switching the lenses every few minutes. The viltrox lives on my xt5 the whole time now

I thought the contrast in the Fuji 33mm looked better, based on the first set of images. However, depending on your budget, you probably can't go wrong with either, although for me the size and weight of the Viltrox would be limiting factor.

33 1.4! It’s all about size, in my opinion. The compact nature of Fuji products is what drew me to the system in the first place. Great video, always enjoy your content!

I agree with another comment that a lot of Fuji owners got into the system for the size of the bodies & lenses. I own the Viltrox 13mm and it's a very sharp lens, but compact...it's not. The 27mm is a beast of a lens and tack sharp...but certainly not one I would travel with. A second problem encountered with the Viltrox lenses (and other third party lenses) is the lower value you get on trade-in vs the Fuji lenses. You'll see what I mean when you submit a lens for an appraisal to any of the major retailers. It's a real wake up call.

I think it's splitting hairs at this point when you're at 100%. I think with a 9mm (even if it's stated 6mm, its 9mm with crop of 1.5X), to some degree this is a case of comparing New York to DC. Both on the same coast, but different cities. I think they are both great lenses, and I have to say I'm impressed with viltrox upping its x-mount game. The thing I did notice was that apparently, Viltrox has nervous onion bokeh, whereas Fuji's seems pretty consistent.

@okyeabuddyguy

Although the viltrox is bigger than the fuji lenses, theoretically on a 40 MP Fuji body you could use the 27mm viltrox to have a 40 MP 40mm equivalent, or a 20 MP 56mm equivalent with the 1.4x crop in camera, or a 10 MP 80mm equivalent with the 2x in camera crop. Given how sharp it is I think the crops would be very usable, and because the lens has such a wide aperture, cropping to 56mm equivalent still gives you something like a f2.2 full frame equivalent depth of field which is very good. I think this lens is a beast on a 40mp body if you want to avoid lens switches.

For me a key thing is continuous autofocus and I heard the Fuji is marginally better (although I also heard that Viltrox has a track record of good firmware to improve autofocus. I used AF-C a lot, so this is important. I do own the Fuji 33mm and it feels like a strong, feisty lens that's rapid to autofocus. But I've no Viltrox to make a comparison myself.

The 27mm f1.2 Viltrox is not that big, considering its performance and f-stop. Yes, I tested both lenses for many months, and the Viltrox has more keepers when it comes to AF.
@tridinh1011
@tridinh1011 5 месяцев назад
you have never used it have you? you're one of those people who are so paranoid of 3rd party lenses. Also, the viltrox is not heavy unless you have some physical deficiency, it is much smaller than any 50mm f1.4 that can give comparable performance. The AF is ofc gonna be slower than the xf but for 60% of the price, it delivers 90% of the performance

Thanks for the video! In my opinion the viltrox has more character with the swirly bokeh and lens flares. Fuji seems a bit more clinical. Either way, both great lenses.
@AndreiDimaReviews
@AndreiDimaReviews 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for watching! Yes, the swirly bokeh is nice, but it's something you only see when you isolate a subject. In my opinion, the 33mm f1.4 has more character because it inherits some traits from the 35mm f1.4, such as barrel distortion, which makes images pop. The LOCA and chromatic aberrations also contribute to that 'pop.' On the Viltrox lens, these aberrations are well controlled, which tends to make the image appear a bit flat and clinical. Additionally, the colors look fuller and warmer with the 33mm. However, character is subjective and depends on what you're looking for.

Based on the comparisons from other youttube channels and especially Dustin Abbott, the viltrox takes it! it has nearly identical bokeh to the 33 despite being shorter and is half a stop brighter and definitely sharper in all areas. Size-wise the new fuji's are not that small tbh (same size as my full frame f1.8's, only the fujicrons are tiny and produce nice images at their optimal f-stops (5.6)) lastly I also think the viltrox has more character as it has swirly specular highlights when shooting foliage (like a modern day helios!) the 33 is definitely nice butt fuji lenses are severly overpriced for what they are!

Yup 👍 my comments are just a footnote to your comparison. Honestly, I would have purchased the Fuji if it wasn’t so grossly overpriced at the time of its release (now it's a bit cheaper).
