Incredible image quality. Not worried about Sony, worried about Sigma and Tamron. They have real competition.

It is really nice seeing this more affordable options that are a great option when you are starting out. I remember watching one of you videos about upgrading from the kit lens on a Sony APSC camera, I would love to see a video showcasing budget lenses for Sony´s full frame cameras so we can decide what to purchase after the kit lens.

Absolutely love my Viltrox 27mm and 75mm f/1.2 lenses on my A6700 and A6600! They deliver tack-sharp images with amazing micro contrast and creamy bokeh. The only lens that tops them on bokeh for outdoor event photography is my Sony 200-600. Highly recommend!

Great review. I have a Sony Zeiss 24mm f1.8 for photo only, do you think the picture quality is way better on this Viltrox lens? Is it worth to upgrade? Thanks

I can't wait to see the third one from viltrox in this Pro Lens Line. If it will be a wide angle (12mm to 17mm) or a short telephoto one (47mm to 55mm). Or a version for Canon eos R.

Using the great Sigma 30mm F1.4 for 6 years now, I was wishing for something a little sharper with less CA wide. Then I tried out this new Viltrox and it blew me away in every way. Only drawbacks in my eyes are size and AF performance (I hope for an update). Right now I'm conflicted about keeping it and selling my Sigma 30mm F1.4 or buying the Sigma 23mm F1.4 instead, completing my Sigma prime Quartet. As the 30mm is to narrow for my liking anyways and the 23mm is quite expensive here in Germany (550€) the Viltrox could be the perfect replacement for those two lenses. On the other hand the poor AF-performance outside of the middle of the frame of the Viltrox as well as the size and weight of this lens are quite annoying - the AF with the 30mm is right 99% of the time in every part of the frame and there is an appeal to its smaller and lighter form factor... What would you guys recommend? P.S.: I got the Viltrox with a huge discount for 425€.

I’m wondering the same. I really like the Sigma 30mm f1.4.
@paulhernandez346
@paulhernandez346 5 месяцев назад
What camera body are you using? I used the same lens for my A5100 for many years and the autofocus performance was horrendous. The problem was solved after I recently purchased a Sony A6400 last February and now the Sigma 30mm's autofocus performance is nearly at 95% accuracy in broad daylight shooting. If this Viltrox can match the Sigma 30mm's autofocus performance with the A6400, I would definitely consider it.
@romanminich879
@romanminich879 5 месяцев назад
@@paulhernandez346 in my comparison, the Sigma was the lens with the amazing AF, always reliable, maybe 1% missed focus, even in darkness. The 30mm used to be horrendous up until an firmware update by Sigma. I used it on my a6000 and now on my a6700 and was very happy with it. I solved my AF problems with the Viltrox lens simply by using AF-S instead of AF-C - now it is as good as the Sigma's. In the end I sold the Sigma 30mm and kept the Viltrox 27mm. I do miss the small form factor sometimes, but the quality, especially wide open at F1.2 and 1.4 is miles better than the Sigma 30mm. Also, the Viltrox 27mm sits right in between the Sigma 30mm, which is a little too narrow for my liking and the Sigma 23mm, which is quite expensive where I live. I planned on getting the Sigma 23mm to complete my Sigma Trio/Quartett, but now I am happy to have an outstanding 27mm replacing two very good lenses at 23mm and 30mm! If you're fine with a bigger lens, than that is the way to go in my opinion!
@paulhernandez346
@paulhernandez346 5 месяцев назад
@@romanminich879 Thank you for your detailed insights. I am definitely looking forward to the Viltrox because of what you shared. One last question: is the perspective distortion especially on the sides of the frame significantly different from the Sigma 30mm? The 30mm focal length on the Sigma seems to strike the right balance in terms of not being too wide and too narrow. Does the the 3mm difference make for a substantial difference?
@romanminich879
@romanminich879 5 месяцев назад
@paulhernandez346 I'm not sure if I completely understood you correctly, but I like the field of view of the 27mm quite a lot, but the difference was marginal! I think it depends on what your whole lens set up you have. In an ideal world I would like a 16, 23, 27, 30, 33/35, 40, 50, 56, 75, 85, and so on, but it really depends. For me, 27mm is a very likeable compromise between a 23mm and a 30/35mm, I'm quite fine with that. And I can promise: except for the size advantage, the Viltrox is better in every way. It is indeed an update for me going from the sigma to the Viltrox.

Hello mister. Can i ask you about your camera. Why are you still use a a5100 ?. I still use my a5100 too.. and i love it. But sometimes I wonder why such a great reviewer like you still use a5100. Does it affect on pictures quality form testing. Using an old camera and new camera with same apsc censor

@TechnoBabble
@TechnoBabble 6 месяцев назад
Makes no difference, Sony's best APS-C camera is only 2mp higher resolution. Outside of improvements to readout speed and noise performance, the sensor in the a5100 is fundamentally the same as the one in the a6600 and as such resolves the same amount of detail.

You reviewed the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 about a year ago. In comparing it to the Viltrox 27mm f1.2, which performs better optically and is sharper for video in your opinion? Which would you prefer and why? Granted the 13mm is much wider and for a different use, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

You cannot fully discharge a lithium ion or LiPo battery in the overwhelming majority of devices. The battery "dies" when it can no longer provide the voltage needed for the device to operate, it still has a charge.
@saifaldin_
@saifaldin_ 6 месяцев назад
Original sony batteries store a lot of reserve power. Even if you use it to 0% and it can’t power the camera anymore, pop it into a charger that shows percentage, and it will show more than 10% left. I’ve used one from my nex-5 for more than 8 years and it still held it’s charge like a brand new one.
