Miguel Quiles Does this adapter gives that flare on the sensor when aiming around strong light sources? This seems to be a common problem for these adapters
Another great review, Miguel! Thanks for sharing! Just one correction for you: 1cm is almost half an inch. So that "give" between the lens and the adapter should be about between 1 and 3mm. Take care!
I picked up a Viltrox EF=Eii Focal Reducer and use it with my Canon lenses on my APSC Sony A6500 and A6400 cameras. I like it better in AF mode than either my MC-11 or Metabones IV adapters. Yes, the AF speed is slightly slower than the native Sony mount lenses but, it is not all that slow. I have had some very erratic AF using both the MC-11 and Metabones IV with longer focal length lenses such as the 70-200mm f/4L IS and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS ii lenses but both these lenses seem to do an adequate job with the Viltrox on my two cameras. What I like about the Vitrox is that the focal reduction eliminates the need to factor in the crop factor in using the Canon lens on the APSC camera. The increased aperture also negates having to figure in the crop factor when determining the aperture. In other words a 35mm f/2 Canon lens will give me approximately the same results on my APSC camera as it does on the Full frame Canon DSLR it was designed for. It seems that the 35mm f.2 IS Canon works very well with the Viltrox... IQ is pretty darn good also... I am ready to sell both the MC-11 and the Metabones IV. I have mostly e-mount lenses now and just use the Viltrox for a few anon lenses, Caveat: AF is adequate but not as fast as a dedicated native e-mount lens... I am planning a test between the Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens plus Viltrox adapter against the 85mm f/1.8 Sony lens on the APSC cameras.
it's been very helpful, i don't know what some people may be nagging about, but to me, your kind review has been important in my final decision on what to buy and use. Cheers and looking forward to more reviews. As for the sound or whatever, well, you might like to take advantage of the positive criticism some offer and try to better your kind reviews and videos.
I love your videos!!!!!! You made me purchase this adapter and I don't even own a sony. Also, you should def place a link to your products. :) THANK YOU keep making videos. I love learning from you!
I didn't hear you mention about aperture control. I've tried a couple of adapters, Lamzix and Fotodiox. The AF takes a couple of seconds, but it's almost always off. You would have to view the images on a computer to see if they are sharp. If you can't control aperture with it and AF is off, then perhaps it's better to get a dummy adapter for $16. Towards the end, you said it's an Excellent adapter. I wouldn't give it a 5-star unless it can control aperture, does quick, accurate AF on a number of lenses.
This is a good, useful review, but please apply the following crop factors to his time measurement estimates: His `centimeters` are approximately 0.5 millimeters, or off by a factor of 20. Also, his `seconds` are approximately 500 milliseconds, so divide all time estimates by two.
For a test like this I'd love to see you actually use it to snap a portrait. For me the test would be if it could let me photograph someone who's cooporating but still moving a little like humans tend to do.
I had an issue with the EF-NEX II that was a little hairy. For some reason it refused to mount, it appeared that one of the electronic contact pins got stuck once and prevented the adapter to be mounted, additionally creating a groove in the ramp that's supposed to push the pins in when mounting it, preventing it further from being used. Luckily I've noticed instead of trying to force it on. Subsequently I had to apply the file to the adapter to fix that issue. Seems like the plastic is a little softer than it should be, because when it happened, the pin wasn't bent.
Hi Miguel, nice review. don't have to complain anything about the sound :-) I also have a similar priced adapter from a brand named kooka for my sony fs700. My problem is that with my tamron 17-50mm it can't focus to infinity when it's on 17mm. I guess it's because of the build quality (length) of the adapter. did you have any issues like that with the viltrox?
Hello sir, i hope you still doing great in 2022 I have question. Lens: Canon EF 17-40 F4 L Camera: Canon 5D mk ii & Sony A7ii Adpater: Viltrox EF Nex ii If i use canon FF sensor lens on canon FF camera and i shot on 17mm fl, the image output will be exactly 17mm wide. When i use canon ff lens on sony ff camera body with the adapter & i do the same shooting on 17mm, would i get same result? I mean i get exactly 17mm wide image, or it will be different like wider or narrower image because there's something called mount conversion factor? I ask this because im new to this adapter, and i want my canon lens work exactly like on my canon ff body.
Not sure if you would know, but I just bought my first professional camera (Sony A6000) and love it! However, my grandpa told me he has a ton of old Sigma, Praktica, and Minolta lens just sitting on a shelf somewhere and asked me if I wanted them. As you probably can tell, I most definitely do! Though, the problem is I don't know if/where there is old Sigma, Praktica, and Minolta lens adapters for the Sony A6000... Think you might have a clue to where I can purchase some?
Very informative video! Questions: aside from resolution loss, can it beat any sony lens e-mount??? Canon lens is known as its diversity and affordable price range... As your video is like 10 months old, have you noticed any downsize while using the adaptor?? And last question, which one do you think the best between metabones/commlite and Viltrox?? Thank you
Miguel, would you recommend the 7a, the first generation of this camera. It's fairly cheap now and I want to go Sony from a Nikon D700. What do you think?
Great review. I have a Canon EF 200 L II and also two Sigmas 20mm 2.8 and 70-300. The first two are very used in low-light situations (astrophotography) Do you think there would be any problem with focusing to infinity (manual focus). Thank you
You see I'm thinking of moving to a sony camera from canon, and I have one of these, but is there a way I can see if this works before buying my camera?
Hi Miguel, great review! congrats. I have that viltrox adapter and have been having some issues with a canon 35mm f2.0 IS on a A7s. Sometimes it works very well (slow AF but that is normal) but sometimes I turn the camera on and the camera does not recognize the lens and is pretty much unresponsive. Have you ever had that problem? if so, is there a tweek to correct it? Thanks!!
So if you use like the L lens 50mm made for full frame Canons, does it perform the full 50mm as well on the sony with the adapter? I saw comments on forums etc that you have to put your settings to APS-C mode to actually use the adapter + lens. So you will have a 1.6x magnification with the sony + canon lens..?
One thing i notice while using Commlite adapter on A7 II is, when i set focal length of the Super Steady Shot system to auto it doesn't stabilize as good as if i set the focal length manually. The focal length in EXIF are correct, just the stabilizer doesn't work well. It clearly visible when compared in focus magnification mode. Can you confirm that using Viltrox adapter with Super Steady Shot's focal length set to auto give the same IBIS performance as set it manually? EDIT: restructure sentences ,remove unnecessary conjunction words of first paragraph.
I've read somewhere in a review that you should set the focal length manually for non-(F)E lenses if you want IBIS to work properly (i.e. results are better when you set the focal length manually).
On a FF Sony and with EF lenses it covers full frame, on APS-C Sony with EF or EF-S it will do the same as with APS-C Canon and cover the whole frame with 1.6 magnification. EF-S on a FF Sony will be automatically recognized as crop photo.stackexchange.com/questions/72519/can-i-use-canon-ef-s-lens-designed-for-crop-sensor-with-a-full-frame-sony-e-moun
Did it ever lose aperture control, where it read "F--"? Also, did you try a 70-200 on there and was it super snug? My metabones had both these issues and I may be willing to convert, thanks
I never had that issue with any of my Canon glass. It always gave the correct f stop unless I was trying to shoot at 1.2 (apparently 1.3 is the lowest it will go). I have used the 70-200 on there and it worked great! I have a video I'm posting here soon showing it and the results.
I find the same problem with my viltrox and i dont know what to do! The camera dont recognize canon lens and so i cant control the aperture! Did you know any solution?
Miguel I am about to buy my first adaptor, so I would like you to clarify one thing that bothers me a lot. Does that adaptor allow me to control the aperture via dial on Sony body? Any experience with Commlite or Fotodiox thus any recommendation? Thank you! Appreciate that u r sharing your knowledge
Hi Miguel, I have a Canon 70-200mm 4L IS USM lens thats work perfectly on my Sony A7 using adapter Andoer. But I couldn't get the focus or the aperture appear on my Sony A7ii body. My question is, will this Viltox adapter work on my Canon lens to Sony A7ii body? Many thanks.
Does this adapter have any issues with flare? Quite of few models of ef to Nex suffer from flare as a result of reflective inner surfaces in the adapter itself. Even though the surface is black, they are not matte, hence the high degree of reflectivity.
I bought the A6000 can you tell me what settings I should have it in to focus? I am having a hard time focusing in on anything with this adapter. PLEASE HELP! Thank you.
heay i have the same vintrox adaptor with my a7sii and im using it with my 24-70 f2.8 but i cant record videos in 4k. i get a big round border around the screen . any idea how it is ?
Gracias por compartir el vídeo, compré la cámara a7II y en México es difícil conseguir lentes para esta cámara. Hoy pedí a Amazon el adaptador para usar mis lentes Canon.
Miguel, did you experience any distortions, or loss in image quality when using this adapter? Also, how does the IBIS in the m2's interact with the IS in Canon lenses when using this adapter. Thanks
Guys can someone help me since I cannot test this case right now. I'm having the same adapter and canon 50mm stm, with it it's f 1.3 I'm thinking about getting sigma 30mm 1.4, I know focal lengths will not be the same but let's forget that and only think about f stop. How much will the adapted 50mm have more light than native sigma 1.4? thank you
Thanks for sharing these videos, as I mentioned on your latest a7r2 vid my Commlite is identical but i'm really looking forward to the OWL adapter if it does come to fruition as it holds 52mm filters inside it! I bought the a72 to have converted to Full Spectrum and as luck would have it my filters are all 52mm. It would mean I can shoot IR with the Samyang 14mm and also my EF 15mm fisheye. Its on a Kickstarter like thing at present.
Hi, Any idea if this adapter may work with a Sigma 105mm 1:1 macro on a Sony A6000? I'm used to the Sony focus-peaking drill. I use it for "ultra-macro" (on a Sony H5!) ;-) I'm only using this lens for macro work, would be a pity to discard it as I'm getting rid of my Canon material ... TIA !
nice and informative...just wanted to know whether i can use the 24-105mm F/4L lens on this and secondly third party (canon mount) lenses like tokina 11-16 your advise please
Miguel Quiles I bought this adapter does work with the A6000 however, when I am shooting it at 11fps my lens shutter stays closed after 11 burst in continuous mode forcing me to completely shut off my A6000 and then it allows me to use it again. Works great in single shot mode and any other mode except when shooting in continuous. I had the chance to test it out at a Celtics game last weekend. Thanks for your videos and the recommendation of this adapter.
Great review. I'm thinking of getting the a7ii, awesome camera but not looking forward to spending £400 for the Metabones Mk IV!!! You said there's 1cm of play with your lens????? Surely you mean 1mm?
+Origin Unknown Thank you! Wasn't trying to be mathematically precise on the lens play, but there is definitely a little bit of movement. Nothing to be alarmed about, but it's worth bringing up.
i have quastion if i use this for mu a7rii its become to crop or full fram ?i dont know if i buy that my camera use that same full frame lens or crop lens?
Thanks Miguel, nice video, I will get one adapter too, and a just so you know, a centimeter is almost half an inch, LOL I think you meant a millimeter, right? (wink wink).
+Vincent Duy Your camera is in "Crop mode" because it thinks your lens is only apsc. If it is an APSC Adapter or an APSC lens, you can only use crop mode. If its a FF lens, you can simply turn off "crop mode" in the menu
Miguel Quiles Hey, you said that one of the advantages of this adaptor is the use of the focus peaking. I think the focus peaking also works on cheap manual adaptors. Am I right?
Hi there. May I ask how well did this adapter age after long usage? My local camera store tells me that many units are sent to be repaired after 3 months of usage. Thank you.
Yes, you will get full frame coverage out of this Viltrox adapter, no cropping. I believe the Metabones version doesn't crop either but I have yet to try that one out.
Miguel Quiles I think aldy mentioned the Metabone adapter with focal reducer. This is just the adapter without glass, so I don't think it has cropping problem.
