Great review! I find the real live tests to be more revealing than the technical tests focused on sharpness and vignetting...

Thanks so so much for doing this one video. I am buying so much video STUFF.... Nice to see what lens number 23mm, 33mm, 85mm, and so so on. I just brought a 23mm Viltrox like 2 minutes before seeing this video. And I am happy to say, I know i will be happy.

Can you share the video of the client? On the 33 there is hunting on the background in your video. Is the 23 the same? Do you have another talking head videos shoot with the 23?

Hey Jared, great real life review. I use two xt3s mostly for video work with fuji 23 1.4 and sigma 18-35 with fringer pro ii. I feel a bit insecure with the AF whenever I use the fuji 23mm or the Sigma (which has a smoother transition focus breathing) and I'd like to know if you would recommend me buying the viltrox 23 1.4? I'm not sure if the AF is smoother as the fuji which sometimes hunts back and forth. Thanks

Thanks for asking. I think this Viltrox 23mm does a great job actually. I would definitely recommend trying it out! Maybe grab it off amazing and then if you dont like it return it, but I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Ive been very very happy with this lens. I havent experience much hunting with it at all. Also, thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video! I appreciate it!

Since this is a review for video performance, I would like to point out that these Vitrox lens has one major problem if you use AF, the change of focus is too fast that it's very annoying in video. you dont get the smooth transition of focus from point a to point b, which is a huge disadvantage for video. Thought this happened also for the SIGMA 18-35, but this is more because of FUji body, any NON native fuji lens seem to have this problem.

Yes Isaac! You're so correct. Because of my shooting style I hadn't noticed that too much so I didn't bring it up. Now, in the last 2 weeks I have noticed it shifting focus so fast. Thanks for helping!!!

But hey man! just wanna let you know Viltrox has new firmware and they claimed that it fixed the too snappy video focus transition problem, as well as the sudden focus lost issue. (see below). Would you mind quickly testing this again and let me know in the comment? I am wondering if I should get the 23mm Viltrox or the Fuji F2 23mm. Many Thanks! 23/33mm F1.4 STM X mount V1.0.7 firmware upgrade This firmware is a common firmware for both Viltrox AF 23mm f1.4 and Vitrox AF 33mm f1.4. V1.0.7 Update Information 1. Optimized the performance of video focus, on the bodies with adjustable focus speed focusing will be smoother. 2. Fixed the problem that the focus suddenly does not respond on video focusing.

Great video man!! Do you think the 23mm would be good for vlogging on an xt20? Or do you recommend another lens?

Hey Charlie! Thanks for watching! I personally thing the 23mm wouldnt work at all for vLogging. Its basically a 35mm FFE and it will be way to tight of a shot! If you want to vLog I recommend the 14mm f2.8!

The quick pulsing of the Viltrox looks distracting when there's so much bokeh balls in the background. Unfortunately, Viltrox lenses don't focus smoothly when pointing at different distances. Still gonna get the 23mm for photo though. Great quality for the price! I've seen a revised version with a redesigned mount part to avoid scratching the X-Pro3 and also without the gaudy gold lettering and instead having the new lettering design similar to the 85mm version 2.

Yes, I actually like these more for photo at the moment! Especially for the price. Hard to complain. I've had almost mo issue with them for photo. Focus fast and look sharp! Hey, thanks for taking time to watch my video. I appreciate it!

Which of the 2 do you recommend for video?

Depends what you find yourself shooting. I love the Full Fram 35mm look. Not too tight...not too wide. So on this camera that would be the 23mm. But it depends on your shooting style.
