Right after this, in the radio booth, Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner had a very hard time keeping it together, and Charlie's tears broke free after a couple of minutes. To me, a Dodgers fan for 52 of Vinny's 67 seasons, it was the most touching tribute of all.

Oh my gosh! This is a side of Vinny I never knew. I have been following him since 1962 when I would listen to him under the blanket covers so my parents wouldn't know I was still awake. I admire him . To me Vinny and Sandy Koufax are the greatest Dodgers of all times.

While I grew up dividing baseball allegiances between the Montreal Expos and the Boston Red Sox, I have also learned to appreciate the game regardless of who's playing... and calling the games. Like so many fans of the game, whether of Dodger Nation or of any other club, I had gotten so used to Vin Scully as the perennial fixture in the broadcast booth that it's going to feel so surreal no longer seeing him there or hearing his voice from there... I wonder if the Dodgers are planning on naming the broadcast booth after Vin... Me thinks that's richly deserved! Kudos to the Dodgers for having taken such great care of their iconic play-by-play man over all these years!

I moved to L.A. in 1999. Since then, I've had the pleasure of listening to Vin's broadcasts of Dodger games. Sadly, the way he paints a picture while broadcasting is pretty much a lost art. Back when Vin started, the broadcasters HAD to paint the picture. Because unless you were AT the game, he was all you had to visualize what was going on. It will be interesting seeing who the Dodgers replace him with. I guarantee you one thing, whoever it is won't be able to fill those shoes! Enjoy your retirement Vin! And thank you for years of enjoyment!

I have been crying on and off since Thursday. I am old enough to have heard Vin in Brooklyn, although not old enough to remember him clearly. I would have to wait for the World Series in 1959, 63, 65 & 66 to hear him during the rest of my childhood. And I was at college when I watched him call Hank Aaron's 715th HR. But there was one more way I was able to hear him once I got my first transistor radio and found the stations around the NL which broadcast the games for the Phillies, Pirates, Reds, Braves, Cubs, Cardinals and Astros ... and of course the local station for the Mets games. I would do my best to stay awake while in bed with the transistor radio under my pillow (it was better when the earpiece worked) and listen to Dodger games on these stations with other announcers. And it wasn't easy because the games started at 11 AM eastern time in those days. But then there might be a moment or two when their broadcast team would be quiet and I could hear Vin's voice coming thru tens of thousands of transistor radios in Dodger Stadium. People talk about LA fans leaving games early to beat the traffic. I wonder how many of them did it knowing they wouldn't miss much with Vin describing the remainder of the game on their car radios. Maybe they will be staying longer now. In the last few years, I have been listening as often as I could to Vin's voice on the Dodger game highlights to savor every last note I could, knowing the end was near. And now it's just three games left in SF and then we can't expect him to ever announce again. There were only two famous people on the planet who have been in the same role as they were before I was born. A week from now, there will be only one: Queen Elizabeth II of the UK. What a way to say goodbye to Vin with a walk off home run that clinches the NL West with two minutes to spare before the Giants losing would do the same thing. And at what time did they clinch their 4th straight title? When else but at 4:44 PM PDT. And if you look up Charlie Culberson's bio and do a little digging and a little connecting, you'll see something that ties Vin's career neatly together. And what a way for Vin to say goodbye to his fans in LA. I knew he could sing beautifully when I heard him sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" the other day. He has such a beautifully rich speaking voice, it isn't surprising that he can sing well, especially knowing that he considered becoming a song and dance entertainer like his idol, Gene Kelly. But for him to serenade the fans at the park and around the world with a song that he had originally sang privately for his wife, saluting her for how she helped him accomplish so much for so many years, it was just too much, especially when they shared a kiss near the end of the song. I could see couples crying in the stands and I don't blame them. I have seen Sandi Scully from time to time throughout the years, from Vin's HOF induction and on through to present day. Is it any surprise that a man so talented and so beloved by millions would also have an absolutely stunningly beautiful and supportive wife? And it reminded me of the role Rachel Robinson played in the legacy of Jackie Robinson. And while Jackie's career with the Dodgers started 3 years before Vin started broadcasting the Brooklyn Dodger games their lives are tied together also. For the most part, September 25, 2016 was a special day for Los Angeles. But it was special for those of us with roots in Brooklyn as well.

I'm 61 years old and Vin Scully is one of the few remaining "constants" in my life. I would listen to him on a cheap transistor radio in bed when I was 10 years old (when I was supposed to be sleeping lol). I listened to him call one of Koufax's no-hitters that way. I would have never believed that he would still be calling games, still be a part of my life in 2016. But unfortunately everything ends eventually, that's the temporary nature of this world.

I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way it is very sad that he's retiring but I wish him nothing but the best love that man

I want to say, I'm a lifelong Padres fan. Having grown up in Temecula, CA, I was stuck with the Dodgers and the Angels. So many of my fondest baseball memories are from listening to Vin growing up, and almost a year after he hung them up, it's still tough for me to watch this video. He's the greatest announcer ever, and I know for a fact I miss listening to him!!

Back in 1982 I listened to a road game against the Cubs on my radio at work that Vin called which lasted an unbelievable 21 innings. The Cubs scored their only run in the bottom of the 1st and the Dodgers tied it in the top of the 2nd. It turned out to be one of the longest Dodger games ever. The Dodgers pitchers were (I had to look this up) Burt Hooton, Tom Niedenfuer, Steve Howe, Dave Stewart, Terry Forster, Joe Beckwith and Ricky Wright for the first 17 innings and then Jerry Reuss, who pitched the final 4 innings. At the time I remember thinking, "Is this game ever going to end?" The Dodgers even used Fernando Valenzuela and Bob Welch as emergency outfielders. Steve Sax hit a double with 1 out in the top of the 21st inning. The Cubs' Allen Ripley then threw a wild pitch allowing Sax to take 3rd. The great Dusty Baker, in his 10th plate appearance that day, hit a sacrifice fly ball, scoring Sax from 3rd base. Reuss was able to keep the Cubs from scoring and the Dodgers won 2-1. You can get the complete rundown of that game here: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN198208170.shtml Vin, in his prime, was the best I ever heard. I could listen to him speak every day of my life and never get tired of it. It's obvious the time had come for him to pass the microphone to another. In this clip where says at 1:44, "You're the wings beneath the team's wings. You're the team beneath my wind." After saying at least a couple million words for us Dodger fans he was bound to get a few of them mixed up. I will never forget him and ball games will never be the same again. God Bless You, Vinny. I'll miss you more than you'll ever know. Every summer is "Time for Dodger baseball!" Thanks for the memories. Love, "Jimmy"
