I was really proud of what Vince did in the offseason before this season: he worked his butt off, he increased his standing vertical jump from 28 to 31.5 inches, and as the season started (and even later with Phoenix), he attacked the rim much more often, as you can see in the highlights, here. His season with Phoenix wasn't as bad as people remember, either. But that trade indeed messed up his confidence - it was such a shame that he (or they, the Magic) didn't get a chance to try again in the playoffs that season. Too many primadonnas on that team, I guess - Jameer, Dwight and Rashard - all of them role players, really. Vince's body composition and athleticism took a deep dive towards the end of the season, and so did his confidence - this had implications including in his first year with the Mavs, after which he improved in his 2nd year. I remember at the team camp, when the season started, that the reporter asked him about the upcoming season and at one point he said "as my career is winding down" and it was the first time that I started to think that retirement is in sight. We were lucky enough that he continued to play for much longer.

I thought the same way too. Totally agree with you. He lost his confidence because of that trade. It's because he was criticized in the playoffs against Boston. But he was carrying the Orlando Magic early that season when his teammates had stomach flu. He really was setting the tone early by being aggresive and getting everybody involved.

Totally agree as well. He reduced his body fat rate (something like that) at the beginning of the seasion so he can move better. He was so eager to for the ring, even after being traded to Phoenix, he still encourage his teammates to win the championship, which was quite unreal for that season's Suns, even if they have two other Hall of Fame Steve Nash, Grant Hill (actually looking back to the Suns that season, not too bad!), but Vince lost his confidence, sad though (he and Nash didn't really have chemical) but I am glad that Phoenix healed his knee injury!

I never quite figured out how his shape changed so dramatically after being traded to Phoenix. He looked in good shape at the beginning of the season, done a non-count 360 dunk in the pre-season game, the move, the driving lay-up looked easy in Orlando, but then he got injured and traded to Phoenix, suddenly he got bigger and moved slowly, his dunk looked heavy, more like a PF than a swingman he used to be... I remembered I heard the news that Grant Hill warned him not to eat too much cookies, maybe that's why :). His shape changed back in Memphis, and now he looked just like the Vince in New Jersey, what a legend. After this season he was waived by the Suns and I thought perhaps that's it and I will never see him again on court. Then 3 year in Dallas, 3 year in Memphis, 1 year in Sacramento, now its the second year in Atlanta and he knocked down 17 points today! He is full of amazing!

Vince was averaging 16 ppg on 46% shooting in about 30 mpg when he was traded from Orlando. An absolute sin that that Orlando team wasn't allowed to run it back for at least one more season.

Half-Man Half-Amazing, still is to this day. Fun fact: Crazy to think this was almost a decade (and now come to think of it, Luka Donćic was only 11 years old during this season, wth)

He really worked hard that off season to go for another run. It's too bad Otis broke the team up. It's what he did after this season that really put his career slightly above melo's. Great role model.

should've shown how much Vince had to scream at Jameer for the ball at 4:32

Imagine what would happen to vince's career if he was not traded to Phoenix. And also, i was hoping he would sign with the Oklahama City Thunder after that season.

I would also love to hear Vince's insight about playing with both Kidd and Nash.

It was a bummer for him and the fan when they traded him to Phoenix. Very disrespectful to get kicked out of the hometown. I felt Phoenix and Steve Nash was also a bad fit for him. I expected Kidd/carter kind of situation there but it really didn't work very well for him. They didn't play him that much.

He did get a few nices passes from Nash and had pretty good chemistry with Grant Hill and, of all people, Zabien Dowdell.

@@Raptorel Who cares? they were out of playoffs before he joined the team. His talent was wasted that year. For the first time, they used him as a reserve and not as a starting line up. He hated there and had no motivation.
@Raptorel
@Raptorel 4 года назад
@@javadh417 Yes, that is true. But in a weird way, maybe that helped with his role with the Mavs? Basically, other teams saw that he was willing and capable of playing a reserve role or come up as a 6th man.

He was looking so strong and so pure before the trade. Team didnt look the same as the year prior though.

Magic blew it up too soon. Dwight and VC needed more time to figure it out. VC would go on to have his best shooting year in 2013. He still had plenty left in the tank.

I still can’t believe the trades the Magic made, they were like at the top of the east before the team suffered a virus, and loose some games, on a road trip.. what a bad decision that was …
@MaxaMillion711
@MaxaMillion711 10 месяцев назад
Right. And vc showed in Dallas he still could be a valuable role player. He had his best shooting year of his career in 2013. They needed to run it back and add 1 more star piece. Instead they got Jason Richardson instead of VC? How did that work out?
@vincentgasparri
@vincentgasparri 10 месяцев назад
@@MaxaMillion711 yep, i remember Vince had to play at point guard in Detroit because of that virus. They were not on point after that, which was understandable and they made these moves.. damn Smith did such a bad job that year, the free agent signings weren’t good fits, the draft was horrible, and they traded Vince for Jrich and that guy Arenas ….

You could tell everytime he screamed whether it was a lay up or just attacking the rack he wanted to Dunk so badly, you feel young in the Inside but Old Outside. He just didn’t have the bounce like before. Favourite Player of All Time

Also I didn’t include his made dunks in this video. That’s in its own video for 2011. 😜 But yes. After 11 seasons it’s harder to just leap over people. And he showed that he could last another 11 seasons with being a great shooter and valuable piece for any team that would have him.
