The reason I like Vince singing is that his voice is sincere and I've followed him for years, his guitar playing is great and he appears an all round nice guy. I watched him singing at the funeral of George Jones and he got emotional but carried on as best he could so it doesn't hurt to have feelings. He's a decent person and I wish him the best for the future. From what I see he has a lot of respect in the music field from fellow artists , he deserves this.

I was born in 1947 and thru out my life I have listened to at least 15 other artists sing it, but Vince Gill is by far the best. It will always be a favorite of mine.

This is a beautiful version of a beautiful song. I first heard the song by Elvis in 1976 which I don't think can ever be equalled but this is no criticism of Vinces version as no one could.

These songs are as tightly written as a haiku. Fred Rose wrote a third verse that is never sung any more. It goes: Now my hair has turned to silver/All my life I've loved in vain./I can see her star in heaven/ Blue eyes crying in the rain.
Acuff and Rose were business partners. Fred Rose wrote the song and Acuff recorded it first. His version is very busy. Hank Williams, who was Rose's good friend and occasional song writing partner recorded it and played it on his radio show radio with the pared down arraignment we always hear today. Hank included the verse that no one sings any more.

The reason I relate to this song has to do with my first husband. I first heard it when I was coming home from the hospital where I had left him. It was a turbulent time. He committed suicide later that day. He had blue eyes, so that song stuck with me. I used to cry when I heard it. And of course I have it on one of your CD's as well as the version by Willie Nelson. Vince Gill is Phenomenal, both as a guitarist and a vocalist. Here he exhibits both, --in a way that is to the top of top-shelf. His vocals go from his diaphragm, through his heart, and not around it, pulling off a beautiful rendition of this song. Not only does he make some cry with the emotional power of this song, he mimics Willie Nelson's style of guitar on his instrumental break. (yes, "truth seeker" this is a Willie Nelson song!) Vince plays his lead with an off-timing lag that struggles it's way to the major chord in typical Willie style. Believe me, that is a tough one to pull off especially in this venue. The only thing he is missing is cat-gut strings.

He is a natural country/soul/blues singer with a talent immensely beyond fathoming...That makes him a precious gem not only in country music but the whole world...
Vince just has it all - a fantastic voice, the sweetest smile this side of heaven, he's a great guitarist, he's very humble, handsome - the list goes on and on. I've admired him since attending a concert in Portland, Maine, in 1981, minus his band who was stuck in Rochester, NY. He was the opening act and he brought down the house! I've seen him in person several times since and he's always a gentleman and a great showman.
OMG I could listen to this all day. His voice is so mesmerizing. Only one other person in my life had that effect on me with this song. My Uncle Lewie (God rest his soul). He would sing this song to me every time I saw him. Love him so much and miss him like crazy. GREAT job Vince Gill.

I am 77 years old. I remember my mother loving this song when I was a little boy in the late '40s or late '50s. Unlike the rest of the family, she was not an avid Grand Ole Opry listener but certain songs she heard and liked. Another one was "Candy Kisses" sung by George Morgan. The version of "Blue Eyes..." that she heard was most likely that of Roy Acuff. I heard her tell the story several times then and in her old age that the inspiration for the song and the phrase "blue eyes crying in the rain" had nothing to with a sad romance at all. She said that she had heard that the song's writer (Fred Rose), had seen a blue eyed over-the-hill and down and out prize fighter sitting on a park bench in the rain sobbing after having just lost likely his last fight. Rose was reknown for taking others' unpolished songs, rewriting them and making them into commercial hits. Many of Hank Williams songs supposedly got reworked with the magic of Fred Rose. So, maybe the prize fighter vision was someone else's original idea that Rose "repurposed" into the mounful love song now most associated with Willy Nelson. My mother had absolutely no reason to invent such an odd story. Has anyone else ever heard this story? I have found no record of it anywhere.

Yes, this is HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMANCES. I met this man in person , back in the 80ies. Drove him all over Holland (Europe) to do several gigs and studio recordings. What an exceptionally gifted musician, singer and composer.
Oh no, I wish I did.....he has always just been a wonderful person to be in country music. He has such a following of people who just think he is great and yet very humble and gracious in his daily life. So many people all over the world feel the same about him. Thank you for your message!!

I had never liked Country music until 3 months ago I heard his singing like 'When I call your name' and 'Go Rest High...'. I was fascinated by his voice. Too bad the Country radio station does not play too many of his songs. They repeat the same songs by same artists over and over. More I find out about him through videos and interviews, more impressed I am as an artist and a person. I compared the stage performance of both Willie N. and Vince G. with the same song Vince expresses the song correctly with precision. You could certainly see the level of skill in both men's playing guitar. Vince plays plainly but skillfully bringing out the beauty of the instrument. Don't you love his dry sense of humor?
Yes Yasuko, Vince is a great artist. As I wrote before, he's an outstanding musician/singer/composer etc. I drove him all over Holland to do several gigs, rehersals etc. Ate pancakes with him and showed him the lowlands over there. GREAT GUY.

Roy Acuff actually wrote this. Hank put it on the big scale. Now what weighs and balances is Vince's version. I hate the elvis one. Worst song I have ever heard elvis sing. Maybe I had a bad version of it but it was the worst. Hanks is my fave. Willie's is my fave. And now I have heard it, Vince's weighs in just right.

+jackie briffa I grew up with classical music and they are my music, however, when I accidentally heard Vince's singing one day on a radio, I fell in love with his voice. I've never been interested in country music because what I was accustomed to was too squeaky. Now I have almost all of his albums and love them. His music is very different from most of other country songs. Maybe that is why I was pulled to his music and somehow I can find the same beauty in his as classical. One of the treasure I find in his albums is his instrumental performances (guitar, mandolin). Almost all of his songs are written or co-written by him. He has gotten everything - great voice, instrumental skills, song writing, and be a great human being.
