If I didn't know better, I'd wonder if Vince is my long lost brother... because my dad was the exact same guy. My dad was only 5' 10" but he was still a giant of a man. I grew up to be 6' 3", but I was always a bit terrified of my dad - he kicked my ass for 18 years so. He was old school as hell, but he had a great sense of humor. When I was about 5, my dad bought me a guitar. Nobody else in my family knew how to play one, and he didn't pay for lessons... or anything like that. But I tell you what... I learned to play with that guitar. Played baseball with it... used it as a wall for my blanket fort, and it made for a pretty good makeshift stool. Couldn't play a lick of music on it but I could drum on it like you wouldn't believe. I asked my dad years later (when I was old enough that he wouldn't punch me)... "So... what were you thinking? You'd just hand a five year-old a guitar and I'd just magically turn into the next Paul McCartney?" "Oh no!" he said... "It was nothing like that... I would have much prefered Marty Robbins!" I lost my dad too... back in 1997, but everytime I think about him, he still makes me laugh.
why is it that i think Vince looks very much like me...??? but there is a huge different between me and him.. no it is not the age.. He can play ... and i do try.... haha i m such a nontalent in instruments but love country music. my first LP was country music and i never regret it that i didnt buy a Hardrock LP then even i liked it very much too..... even it was the hard rock time in the 60s and 70s. and this was not in the USA. this was in Switzerland.. my love for country music even got bigger with time because there are so beautiful singer ... Reba Mc Intire... Lorrie Morgan.. Maria Mc Bride.. Patsy Cline.. Tammy Wynette...Faith Hill and so many many i did not mention here... and now i like all the new singer i saw in the Country and western Night on RU-vid you know the country award night.. ... so many to mention.. its good there is country music...
Ai...it sounded like he wanted to say something else but that woman just couldn't shut up so he decides to start singing. That woman ruined a perfect moment! Vince...You're amazing!
I f you ever performed on stage you would know that there is always someone like her or even worse. Vince handled it very professionally. Being an entertainer gives a person a whole new perspective on hecklers and other annoying people. Vince is a real pro.
How sweet! That Vince’s Dad made a mark on his life, No doubt Mr Gill hasn’t forgotten where he come from. Many of us are like that in that I like many am a product of who raised me and where I come from. My Dad smoked Tampa cub cigars, taught me how to plow a straight furrow, drill a hole and tap it for thread, and never bed a woman that ya wouldn’t take home to meet your MaMa. At 72 I find myself reflecting on that good advise every so often.
I had the same problem at their Clearwater, FL show, tonight. A woman right behind me, gabbing away to her friends like she was at home watching a movie. I'll never understand the stupidity and/or arrogance of such mental morons.
Tim Allbritton it really makes it tough to listen to. I give Vince and other performers credit when they don’t get upset about that stuff. Just watching, I’da already lost my “cool”. Vince is a quality guy. I’m an unapologetic 90’s country stronghold and Vince is the Best!
She received her 2.1/2 minutes. If she reads the comments. She will carry shame for herself the remainder of her life. Self shame is some of the worse.
I loved this song by Vince Gill about his dad, Vince is so talented and I actually shed a tear except for that annoying woman. But oh Lyle Lovett sat there with so much dignity and respect for Vince! Makes me have a new appreciation for Lyle. Vince you're the best! God bless!
What I Love about Vince Gill He is A True Family Man He Talks about his Dad and His Mother And his Brother and his Daughter And His Wife Amy Grant Vince Gill Will Always be Number one In My Book Even When Someone Jokes With Him His Voice is Still The best In the world 🌎 I Love you Vince Gill ❤
Every father wants to see his son to be established specially those who hold good position ..he loves his father . Happy kids every mother wants to see..
I am just discovering Vince Gill again after many years of not listening to music much.. I find the music to be very comforting at this time and I hope more people will find peace in his singing like I have..
I had the pleasure of meeting your Father and chatting with him while you were on stage at the old Rodeo Roadhouse in Kingston On Canada back in the very early '90's. You had a one night stand there and we certainly enjoyed the show, very small venue and great acoustics. Your Dad was very proud of you Vince, and the time we spent together as Fathers will always be a part of my memories of my life. You've done him proud!
this guy is a class act. i could watch him forever. saw him do this song in niagara fall at the casino and he cried like a baby. feelings are on his sleeve and he doesn't care who sees them.
It baffles why someone would pay for a ticket yo show others what a jerk you are. I am sure all that know you are aware. Let the entertainers do their thing and shut the heck up.
Naw, she is insignificant. Vince keeping his cool and being who he is, that is what we take from this. The program wasn't ruined, an exclamation point was stamped onto the end of it. Cheers!
Took my wife to this concert in Ventura, the first night they played together, no rehearsal just two good ol’ boys shootin’ the shit and making better music goofing off than most music on the air today. God bless both of them and thanks for all the memories.
God broke the mold when he created Vince Gill. Where on earth could you find another as talented, timeless and genuine? He is an incredible songwriter, musician, community leader and family man. He is a treasure!
nah, he just put the mold aside for a few decades, as we only need one Vince at a time, and he's waiting until the world needs to replace Vince after God calls him home to lead His choir.
If you imagine a crowd as one body, you need a prick and an arsehole, and by god that woman was both, love Vince's voice more now than when he was younger, well shot video Linda.
I really love the openhearted theme of his love for his dad in this song! Thanks for sharing your Dad with us all Vince Gill. Ya haven't changed a bit.
Women should not drink to the point of losing control, at least in public. I hope that's the reason for her sake. Vince is a great guy as well as a huge talent. Thanks for posting this.
Dang, after the real life humor, it was impossible for me to listen through to the end of the song without crying. O Lord I love my Dad... ‘n it’ll be a hard day when he too passes away.
Yes it will be a hard day. Just make sure today that he knows you love him and tell him again. I lost my Dad a few years back and now I have wonderful memories. Memories are a true blessing that no one can destroy.
Why? Why are there always people like that at shows? Pay umpteen-dollars to hear the loud mouth in the front row? No. Didn't. I've got video of numerous great moments (concerts, personal events, school events) and in most of them... this same type of person is right there cackling. Happens in restaurants regularly, too. Ugh. Glad she shut up at 4:50 and let Vince interrupt her with a song.
You got that right! And we only heard what was picked up by the microphone. Imagine sitting next to these cacklers....Well, I guess we don't have to imagine since we've all probably experienced them.
Brought back such precious memories of my father, as a child helping him fix things in the garage, cars, bikes, fixing the heating, handing him the tools he asked for, a six year old blondy getting all the confidence a girl needs to stand as a woman , thank you VG for such a beautiful song.
My father played the Guitar and I learned to play from him. First song he taught me was wild wood flowers, no in my late forties I had the privilege as a Pastor to preach for him at his funeral. Hearing this song reminds me of my father and I on the Guitar.
What a privelidge. Knowing that one day you will be together again and you have the memories for now. I lost my Dad and he loved his Lord with all his heart.. We had a wonderful Christian family. Not perfect but Jesus was always at the head. Now We all have precious memories of Dad and Mom. Alan Jackson has a CD with all old hymns called Precious Memories
Sweet guitar stuff. Moving lyrics. It's funny we feel sad and miss one when they are gone. But never learn to be that way when we have them around. Vince is a one of a kind singer and guitar player.
Vince you are so TALENTED! This song made me cry, its so touching and a great tribute to your Dad. Made me think of my dad too. Music wow its the story of the soul. Great job love you!!💗🙏🎶
Vince Gill is my all time favorite musician & singer & one of my favorite song writers & out of all the times I’ve seen him & watched videos of him that’s the first time I’ve seen him get actually irritated at a dumb ass in the crowd . Lol
dud stelle. just a few chords on the banjo is the key to life. i think this song is a kind of summary of vince's life. his dad taught him a few chords and he picked up the ball and made a career of it.
I'd like to thank the loud cackler in the front row for interrupting Vince's story. He got it right...."Wow!" I hope she enjoyed herself. Maybe he could have just handed her the microphone and guitar because everyone there paid money to listen to her anyway.
Still can't listen to this song without tearing up a bit---something about Vince's sincerity makes this song so poignant. And of course Lyle Lovett---one of the classiest and coolest men on this planet---sits and soaks in what another great song writer has created. Just can't find two better musicians that leave their marks on a person. Well done guys!
Who was that woman who just kept talking while Vince Gil was on stage trying to set up his next song? Talk about being oblivious to one's surroundings. Some people must simply lack a normal adult level of respect for other human beings I guess.
