I know. Why is it every time he opened his mouth and says anything, it’s poetry?

Haunted Palace is one of my favorite of his movies. The atmosphere is so killer, and performances are strong.

Charles Beaumont did a hell of a good job writing the script for 'The Haunted Palace.'--it brings out the Lovecraftian mood. And Price's introduction perfectly sets the tone for the film.

Well said, sir. So true. "True! Truuueee!! Trrruuuuueeeee!!!" [Forgive my attempt at humor here... I was just channeling my inner Price as Nicholas Medina from "Pit & the Pendulum"-- w/regards to his repeated, screaming response of "True!" as he flees in a fit of inconsolable guilt & horror upon seeing what he "believes" to be evidence that his suspicions were correct, in that he had accidentally had his beloved Elizabeth(Barbara Steele)interred alive!🙄 Another film gem!] The only thing I'd add to ur comment is that while the film breathes life into Lovecraft's magnificent work thru its mood & tone, it also still manages to capture that classic gothic aesthetic & atmosphere that is so commonly found in the rest of the Corman-Poe cycle of films! I know it's a cliche, but they really don't make 'em like they used to! I'm 42 yrs old, but have been told by just about everyone I know that I am "an old soul"... & I'm inclined to agree! Not that I don't like any contemporary horror films. Not at all! I luv a TON of contemporary horror films! There's just something about the older films that are like "movie comfort food"🥞to me, lol. Give me an A.I.P, Hammer, or Amicus horror film w/Price, Cushing, or Lee & I'm in Heaven! And the '30s & '40s Universal monster films are enjoyable alternatives, as well! I guess, as my OCD is spurring me on, lol... I will go ahead & state that, in terms of "older" horror, I am also a massive fan of the BBC "A Ghost Story for Christmas" series of short films(many based on stories by the great M.R. James). Thankfully they(Mark Gatiss, mainly)have revived that series on Christmas Eve the past 2 yrs(I live in the U.S., so I've had to wait till someone has posted the short film on RU-vid before I can see it; but I feel more than glad that they're being made again & that I'm able to watch them at all!). Anyways, just wanted to agree w/ur post, & ended up putting down all this stuff. Smh.😏 Regardless, "The Haunted Palace" is a fantastic picture! But then, as I stated, pretty much anything w/Price is fantastic in my book!😎👍🏻

Vincent Price is the only actor I can think of who actually IMPROVED in old age. The grace and nobility of his delivery here is most prodigious.

There will be no other as poetic and poignant as Vincent Price always was. I grew up loving his roles and wish I could have met him, but I was so young when he passed away. Your legacy will and should live on in the love of Horror fandom

I was in a huge, old house museum in Iowa (forget the name), and they had a pipe organ built into the walls. I told the guide, it reminded me of Vincent Price's radio performance in "Fugue in C Minor". The guide said that Vincent had been there, and filmed these openings. In fact, the chair shown above was still there....at least at this time in 2013. He said Vincent had been a lovely man to meet.

If mr price never appeared on television or feature films, he would have been successful only doing radio. A voice that could launch a thousand ships !

When did these introductions originate? He's older so they weren't filmed/taped at the time of the release which is also made obvious by the fact that he's speaking in past tense when talking about the film.

I believe it was in the 80s, but I don't know the exact year. Iowa Public Television asked him on a whim if he would come to their studio to film these intros (probably not believing he would actually do it), and he's such a good sport that he did, just because they asked! Such a great guy. :-D

I find it maddening that this Vincent Price introduction to the film DOES NOT appear on the Shout Factory Blu-Ray. WHY??? Another "extra" that I feel should have been included, but wasn't, was Basil Rathbone's dramatic reading of the poem. Some Poe stories, both Price and Rathbone read versions, but not all. Rathbone is the ONLY actor I've ever heard reading Poe who actually manages to blow Price out of the water!

Yet another comment could mention something about so and so reading from a phone book and it would literally be depressing. Price an original. The adulation, quite the opposite.
