I've only played Organ Trail, but I know I've one upped all you guys and Joel. As an Oregonian, in 4th grade we simulated the Oregon Trail, getting our own little wagon trains we filled with items and that was all we got, and we walked around our town once a day for a few days. We got to trade with indians, a tribe kidnapped some of us and those people would have to go to the library, same with anyone who died (yes by random chance you could "die" on any given day). My favorite part was getting to play the role of a crazy guy who'd seen the "yellow elephant". My teacher just decided to pick me for it. Dude was an ass but that was rad.

I've always loved Oregon Trail games. I just wish there was a more modern rendition of it, with more realistic elements. I downloaded this game myself (you can make it run in Win10. No need for a virtual machine), ran 1800 miles with 6 people in perfect health, a ton of food and 6 oxen before it crashed on me. Damn. Here's a couple of tips if anybody'd be interested: >Shotgun is useless. Bring a rifle and bullets instead. >Hunt often, but never kill more than two animals per hunting session. You can't bring more than 180-220 pounds of flesh back, so anything you kill above that threshold just goes to waste and you may end up angering the indians. >Bring a ton of salt to preserve the meat you hunt for. >Salted meat is great for trading. You can get a ton with a single bullet and people often offer you valuable stuff for very little meat in return. >Stock up and dried fruits and vegetables. >Oxen do fine on a 10h/day trip, but you should still stop and rest for a day or two once in a while. >Don't forget to bring tools and spare parts.

as a native Oregonian, I can confirm that this game is an accurate representation of Oregon

As someone who never got the chance to grow up with this game (I was born too late) I'm glad I can use Joel to experience what makes this game so special to so many other people

If Skeletor had internal injuries and was just going to die within half an instant anyway why did the game even bother telling you about the cuts

Holy shit, im slowly remembering all the damn music from this game. It's like it's been buried in my brain for 20 goddamn years. And I love how it cuts out during dialogue. Shows just how limited games used to be.

Holy shit, I've never seen anyone play or acknowledge this game! I've been playing it for nearly 20 years and it still holds up. Especially the random occurrences that are still to this day hilarious. Most people know of Oregon Trail now because it has become a meme, but OT II is incredibly advanced (compared to the original).

In trading, the drop down box is you selecting what you want out of what the character has, and the static text is them saying what they want for what you're asking for. The white box is what you get, the static text is what you give away. Let's pretend that in universe, what was actually happening is that there was massive communication errors because the in-game Joel is an immigrant from Sweden whose understanding of English leaves a lot to be desired.

Joel you should try Death Road to Canada! It's like the Oregon trail but with zombies, you can also make your friends as NPCs and play with them. Vinny played it on stream before
