I'm I think 5 years younger than Vinny and I saw Avatar once when it came out. It was the most milktoast generic sci-fi I'd ever laid eyes on and I couldn't fathom why they'd spend so much money on it. If they'd released their four sequels I'd never have seen them, if they release this game, I'm not gonna play it. What fascinates me is I did meet exactly one person who did seem to earnestly like the films - this old lady who was on a shuttle from the airport with me - she was an anthropologist and said the film resonated with her since her literal job is to document and preserve cultures against extinction. It was honestly enlightening to see what could conceivably connect with someone that way... but man when the audience for your sci-fi native american allegory is specifically old white ladies who study native americans and dont' care about the sci-fi? Let's just say I don't think she'll be playing this game either.

Hi vinny, I First want to say I am very thankful that you even bother recording your reactions and uploading them as I am genuinely curious about your thoughts on the gaming industry as a whole. to address your avatar question I first saw avatar when I was 12-13 and was absolutely enchanted by this world and how beautiful a journey it was watching, though it may seem like an unfair comparison me being Native American and what not but the movie made me happy that in some form a people who loved their beautiful world fought for it and actually won in the end. I was deeply moved when I saw this trailer as I have been hearing about this being in the works of some form for years now. I have waited even longer for the sequels. sure it seems like a very basic story but the world building is amazing and the amount of work that went into creating the language alone is baffling. I genuinely hope you give the movie a try in some degree.

I am morbidly curious what will happen to the Avatar sequels, I have no interest in watching them.

There's a possibility that they're banking on Avatar succeeding as a video game independent of its source material. In many ways, the world and story make for a better video game than a movie. Maybe that's what they're pushing. Maybe the game is standing on its own to keep the IP alive?

Vinny, I am 31 years old. I saw Avatar when I was about 20, with Rifftrax applied to make it more palatable. I made it 2/3 through. It is just bland fantasy junk through a Dances With Wolves lens. It did not deserve the praise it got and I'm floored that they still want it to be relevant 12 years later.

Probably the person most excited for this James Cameron game based on a James Cameron's movie by James Cameron is James Cameron the bravest pioneer. The weird thing about the Avatar game is that I noticed on Twitter recently on occasion there's an increased nostalgia over mid-2000's movies. So by the time this game is done we could wind up with people younger than me starting to get nostalgic over the late 2000's movies including Avatar. The game might be fine as is. This game will very very likely be finished even before any of those film sequels will be released.

Ubisoft really waxed the carrot this year. Early 30's here and seen Avatar once, not really excited for an Avatar game per se, but I guess it could end up being an alright game depending on what direction they take it. Could see them doing something like Horizon Zero Dawn maybe.

The Mother direct isn't a joke actually. It's a fan-organized event they do each year to promote fan projects based on Earthbound, or some of the tons of indie games or projects that are adjacent to it. They showed off a fan remake of the first game in a modern engine, a trailer for a documentary about the leaked English prototype for the first game, and a completely restored Mother 3 soundtrack. Some of the indies are predictably kind of weird looking RPG maker stuff, but others are actually pretty high quality.
